Abu Dis

Bethany (Greek: Βηθανία, Syriac: ܒܝܬ ܥܢܝܐ Bēṯ ʿAnyā) or what is locally known as Al-Eizariya or al-Azariya (Arabic: العيزرية, "[place] of Lazarus"), is a Palestinian town in the West Bank. The name al-Eizariya refers to the New Testament figure Lazarus of Bethany, who according to the Gospel of John, was raised from the dead by Jesus. The traditional site of the miracle, the Tomb of Lazarus, in the city is a place of pilgrimage. The town is located on the southeastern slope of the Mount of Olives, less than 2 miles (3.2 km) from Jerusalem. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, it is the second largest Palestinian city in the Quds Governorate (not including East Jerusalem, which is under Israeli control), with a population of 21,175 inhabitants. Being mostly in Area C, it is controlled by the Israeli military rather than the Palestinian Authority.

Al-Quds University (Arabic: جامعة القدس) is a Palestinian university with its main campus in Abu Dis and additional campuses in al-Bireh, Hebron and Jerusalem.

St. Lazarus Church is a Roman Catholic church located in the West Bank town of al-Eizariya, identified with biblical Bethany. The church is located in close proximity to what Christian tradition holds to be the tomb of Lazarus and the site of the house of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus.

The Abbey of Saint Lazarus was a Benedictine convent in Bethany in the Kingdom of Jerusalem. It was founded in 1138 by Queen Melisende and King Fulk at the reputed site of the tomb of Lazarus. The queen lavishly endowed the abbey, making it richer than any other religious community in the kingdom. It lost much of its estates, including Bethany itself, during the Muslim reconquests of the Latin East, and retreated to the Kingdom of Cyprus, where it faded into obscurity in the 14th century. Parts of the abbey buildings are still visible in Bethany.

The Tomb of Lazarus is a traditional spot of pilgrimage located in the West Bank town of al-Eizariya, the biblical village of Bethany, on the southeast slope of the Mount of Olives, some 2.4 km (1.5 miles) east of Jerusalem. The tomb is the purported site of a miracle recorded in the Gospel of John in which Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead.

ʿArab al-Jahalin also known as al-Jabal (Arabic: عرب الجهالّين; Hebrew: ערב אל-ג'האלין) is a Palestinian Bedouin neighborhood in the Jerusalem Governorate, located five kilometers southeast of Jerusalem in the West Bank. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), ʿArab al-Jahalin had a population of approximately 1,856 inhabitants in mid-year 2017. The village is situated on a hillside outside al-Eizariya and 300 meters away from the Jerusalem Municipal dump. It is located in Area C of the West Bank. While the Israeli government has full control over the village, the populace hold Palestinian IDs. ʿArab al-Jahalin contains a mosque, a seven-class school and a 12-class school. The village is linked to the East Jerusalem electricity system and has running water. As-Sawahira ash-Sharqiya shares the facilities, particularly schools and health amenities with the villages of ʿArab al-Jahalin, Jabal Mukaber and ash-Sheikh Sa'd. The healthcare facilities for as-Sawahira ash Sharqiya are designated as Ministry of Health level 2. All residents of the ʿArab al-Jahalin are refugees and have UNRWA refugee papers.

Bethphage (Ancient Greek: Βηθφαγή, romanized: Bēthpagḗ; Imperial Aramaic: בֵּית פַּגִּי, romanized: Bêt̲ Paggî, lit. 'house of unripe figs') or Bethsphage, is a Christian religious site on the Mount of Olives east of historical Jerusalem. Bethphage is mentioned in the New Testament as the place in ancient Israel from which Jesus sent his disciples to find a colt upon which he would ride into Jerusalem. The Synoptic Gospels mention it as being close to Bethany, where he was staying immediately prior to his triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Bethphage is about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) from the modern village of al-Azariya. Unknown villagers living there, the owners of the colt according to Gospel of Luke 19:33, permitted Jesus' disciples to take the colt away for Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, which would have been four days before Passover. There is an annual Palm Sunday walk into Jerusalem which begins in Bethphage.Eusebius (Onom 58:13) located it on the Mount of Olives. It was likely on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho and the limit of a Sabbath-day's journey from Jerusalem, i.e., 2000 cubits. The Franciscan Church of Bethphage was built on the foundations of a 12th-century crusader chapel. Just up the hill from the Catholic church is the Greek Orthodox Holy Monastery of Palm-bearing Bethphagea. The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem holds an annual representation of this event there.

The Church of Bethphage, also spelled Beitphage, meaning "house of the unripe figs", is a Franciscan church located on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. It contains a stone traditionally identified as the one which Jesus used to mount the donkey at the start of his procession into Jerusalem.

Ras al-Amud (Arabic: راس العامود Rās al-ʿĀmūd) is a Palestinian neighborhood in East Jerusalem (which is under Israeli occupation), located southeast of the Old City of Jerusalem, overlooking the Palestinian neighborhoods of Silwan to the south and Abu Dis and al-Eizariya to the east, and bordering the Jewish neighborhood of Ma'ale HaZeitim to the north, which overlooks the Temple Mount. There were about 11,922 Arabs living in the neighborhood in 2003.

Nof Zion (Hebrew: נוף ציון. lit. Zion View) is a Jewish religious neighborhood and an Israeli settlement inside of the Palestinian Arab neighborhood of Jabel Mukaber, East Jerusalem.The international community considers Israeli settlements in East Jerusalem illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.

az-Za'ayyem (Arabic: الزعیّم) is a Palestinian village in the Jerusalem Governorate, located 3 kilometers east of Jerusalem in the central West Bank. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, the village had a population of 2,459 in 2006. The healthcare facilities for az-Za'ayyem according to the Ministry of Health are obtained in East Jerusalem.

The Jewish Cemetery on the Mount of Olives is the oldest and most important Jewish cemetery in Jerusalem. The Mount of Olives has been a traditional Hebrew/Jewish burial location since antiquity, and the main present-day cemetery portion is approximately five centuries old, having been first leased from the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf in the sixteenth century. The cemetery contains anywhere between 70,000 and 150,000 tombs, including the tombs of famous figures in early modern Jewish history. It is considered to be the largest and holiest historical (as opposed to modern) Jewish cemetery on earth.It is adjacent to the much older archaeological site known as the Silwan necropolis.
