Creech Hill

Gants Mill is a watermill on the River Brue in Pitcombe near Bruton, Somerset, England. Much of the current mill was built in 1810 but includes parts of the 18th-century building and possibly some material from earlier mills, as there has been a mill on the same site since about 1290 which was originally a fulling mill. It is a grade II* listed building, and takes its name from John le Gaunt who owned it in 1290. The mill was owned for four centuries by the Weston family and papers relating to the mill are now held in the Somerset Record office.Most of the machinery, including the grindstones, conveyors, sackhoist and grain bins, date from 1888 and is still used for grinding animal feed and occasionally whole wheat flour. A 20 inches (51 cm) British Empire turbine by Armfields of Ringwood was also installed. Steam power was introduced in 1883, and replaced by semi-diesel in 1914.The South Somerset Hydropower Group was begun in 2001 and the first turbine, at Gants Mill, was commissioned in 2003. It was turned on by Adam Hart Davis on Friday 23 April 2004. It now produces up to 12 kW (16 hp) of electricity from a 300 millimetres (12 in) crossflow turbine made by Valley Hydro of Cornwall, and has a maximum flow rate of 495 litres (109 imp gal; 131 US gal) per second.Brian Shingler is the sixth generation of his family to act as the miller.The water garden includes seasonal displays of iris, roses, delphiniums, day lilies, clematis, and dahlias.

The Anglican Church Of St Mary and St John in Lamyatt, within the English county of Somerset, was built in the 13th century. It is a Grade II* listed building.From the 12th century until the Dissolution of the Monasteries the advowson of the church was held by Godstow nunnery.The fabric of the building has been changed and renovated many times, however the two-stage 13th-century tower remains.The stained glass window depicting St Christopher carrying the Christ child was donated by Christopher Welch in 1907.The parish is part of the Bruton and District Team Ministry within the Diocese of Bath and Wells.

Sexey's School is a Church of England, co-educational state boarding and day school in Bruton, Somerset, England for 11-18 year olds. Sexey's School is named after Hugh Sexey who, in 1599, was appointed as a Royal auditor to Elizabeth I and later as a Royal auditor to James I. Sexey's Hospital was established in 1619 from the proceeds of his will, and the school was founded in 1889. State boarding schools are most unusual in England and Wales. The school became an academy in August 2011.

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Wyke Champflower, Bruton, Somerset, England, dates from 1623 and has been designated as a Grade I listed building.A wooden tympanum between the nave and chancel bears the 1624 Royal Arms, the arms of the then Bishop of Bath and Wells and the Archbishop of Canterbury. The pews are Jacobean pews and the large stone pulpit Elizabethan. The font cover is from a similar era.The church contains a black-and-white marble monument commemorating Henry Southworth, who was the Lord of the Manor of Wyke, who died in 1625 and funded the construction of the church. In the graveyard is a memorial stone erected in 2002 for Edward Blair Michell (1843–1926) who may be buried there. Michell was a renowned falconer who authored the excellent treatise on falconry "The Art And Practice of Hawking", London 1900. Michell's house is across the road from the church and manor house. The parish is part of the benefice of Bruton and District which falls within the Bruton and Cary deanery.

The River Pitt, also known as the Piddy, is a short tributary of the River Brue in Somerset, England. It rises near Hardway in the parish of Brewham, and flows for 5.5 miles (8.9 km) through the parishes of Shepton Montague and Pitcombe to join the Brue at Cole.

Sexey's Hospital in Bruton, Somerset, England was built around 1630 as almshouses. The West Wing and chapel have been designated as a Grade I listed building. The East Wing and gateway are grade II listed.Hugh Sexey (1556–1619), was a local landowner. By the age of 43 he had been appointed Royal auditor of the Exchequer to King James I. After his death the trustees of his will established Sexey's Hospital in Bruton as an institution to care for the elderly. A trust of 1638 set out the role of the hospital in caring for 12 poor men and women. This later rose to 18 people, and it provided a school for 12 boys, and staff comprised a governor, a schoolmaster, and a nurse. By 1812 this had risen to 20; 10 men and 10 women and in 1902 there were 15 residents. In 1997 there were 22 residents with vacancies for a further 2.

Bow Bridge is a 15th-century packhorse bridge over the River Brue in Plox, Bruton, Somerset, England. It has been designated as a Grade I listed building, and Scheduled Ancient Monument.The bridge may have been built as a link between the former Bruton Abbey, and its courthouse in the High Street. On the parapet on the western side of the bridge the remains of a carved shield can still be seen. It had acquired the name Bow Bridge by 1707.The narrow bridge of three arches is 42 inches (1,100 mm) wide. The main arch of the bridge is built from chamfered blocks of dressed stone.The bridge was restored after floods on 12 July 1982.

Milton Clevedon is a village and civil parish 1 mile (1.6 km) south of Evercreech in the Mendip district of Somerset, England.

Cole (for Bruton) railway station was a station on the Somerset and Dorset Railway in South Somerset, serving the village of Cole, which is now virtually joined to the village of Pitcombe and the town of Bruton. Cole was the station where the Dorset Central Railway line from Templecombe met the Somerset Central Railway line from Glastonbury and Street railway station in 1862. Later that year the two companies combined to form the Somerset and Dorset Railway. Just north of the station the line crossed the Wilts, Somerset and Weymouth Railway although the two railways were not connected here. The goods yard closed on 5 April 1965 and Cole station was closed with the railway in the Beeching cuts in 1966.

Godminster Lane Quarry and Railway Cutting (grid reference ST682345) is a 0.8 hectare geological Site of Special Scientific Interest at Pitcombe in Somerset, notified in 1971. This is an important locality for study of the Inferior Oolite limestones, of Middle Jurassic age, laid down in a warm shallow sea some 175 million years ago. The site is unique in that the limestones seen here are much more closely comparable with rocks of similar age found in the Cotswolds than with rock sequences seen elsewhere in Somerset. However, the rocks do contain the rich assemblage of fossil ammonites which are typical of the north Dorset/south Somerset area and it is this feature, combined with the unusual limestone sequence, which makes this site unique. It is also important as a reference site for three sub-divisions (zones) of the Inferior Oolite — the laeviscula, discites and concavum Zones.

Bruton School for Girls was an independent day and boarding school for girls aged 2 to 18, near Pitcombe in Bruton in south east Somerset, England. By the 2009, the school comprised Sunny Hill Nursery, Sunny Hill Prep, a senior school and a sixth form with an overall attendance of approximately 250 pupils, of whom a third were boarders. A small number of boys also attended the pre-school and pre-prep.

King's Bruton is an independent fully co-educational secondary boarding and day school in the English public school tradition located in Bruton, Somerset, England. It was founded in 1519 by Richard FitzJames, and received royal foundation status around 30 years later in the reign of Edward VI. It is a member school of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference. Girls have attended the school's sixth form since the 1960s before King's became fully co-educational in the late 1990s. It has six houses: Wellesley, Priory and Arion for girls, with New, Blackford and Lyon making up the boys' houses. In September 1999, the Hobhouse Science centre was opened with a fully equipped observatory. The school has a purpose-built theatre, sports hall and fitness suite and sports surfaces for rugby, netball, tennis and cricket as well as two all-weather astro-turfs for hockey. The Basil Wright Building was opened in 2009 and houses the Headmaster's, Bursar's and Registrar's offices.King's School Bruton once owned a copy of Magna Carta dating from 1297, which it sold to the Australian Government in 1952 for £12,500.Old House was the original school building, later New House was built as an extension for school rooms and Old House was the headmaster's house. The Memorial Hall was built in the 1920s to commemorate the members of the school who died in World War I. Blackford and Lyon were built and were funded by beneficiaries such as Lord Blackford and James Lyon. On 28 March 2019, to mark the school's quincentenary, King's hosted Queen Elizabeth II during a wider Royal visit to the West Country. During the visit the Queen opened a new music school named in her honour.
