San Francesco, Viterbo

The Fontana di Piazza della Rocca, sometimes shortened to Fontana della Rocca and once called Fontana di San Pietro alla Rocca, is a Renaissance-style fountain located in a piazza in front of the Rocca Albornoz (Albornoz Castle), the Porta Fiorentina (Florentine gate), and the Palazzo Grandori, in the northern sector of historic Viterbo, region of Lazio, Italy.

Teatro Unione or Teatro dell'Unione is the main theater stage in Viterbo, Italy, for live dramatic and musical performances. Located at the eastern edge of historic Viterbo, on piazza Giuseppe Verdi, diagonally across from the Biblioteca Comunale degli Ardenti (Civic Library) which partly occupies the former Palazzo Santoro.

The Rocca Albornoz or Castle Albornoz was originally a medieval castle in Viterbo, region of Lazio, Italy. The original castle was erected by Gil de Albornoz (also known as Egidio Albornoz), legate for pope Clement VI and condottieri, after the defeat in 1354 of Giovanni di Vico, till then lord of Viterbo, who had usurped much of the Papal territories in the Lazio and Umbria. The structure, razed and rebuilt over the centuries, is now the Museo Nazionale Etrusco Rocca Albornoz (a National Etruscan archeology museum).

The Fontana di Santa Maria in Poggio, also called the Fontana della Crocetta or Fontana di Santa Rosa, is a medieval fountain located Piazza della Crocetta, in front of the parish church of Santa Maria in Poggio, in the historic center of Viterbo, region of Lazio, Italy. A fountain was erected at this site by the early 13th-century, since legend recalls that a fountain was present during the lifetime of St Rose of Viterbo. The church in this piazza was Rose's parish church, and where she remained buried from 1252 to 1258, when she was translocated to the Monastery of Santa Rosa. The small sculpture at the pinnacle of the central spire depicts that putative event where a small girl seeking to fill a pitcher of water, broke the ceramic pitcher, and received a stern reprimand. It is said that Rose comforted the child and miraculously stitched together the broken pitcher. Also in the central spire are heads of a man and a woman and two lions, the latter symbols of Viterbo found in other fountains in town, serving as spigots that pour water into the circular basin.

San Rocco is a deconsecrated Baroque-style, former-Roman Catholic church located on the Piazza of the same name in central Viterbo, region of Lazio, Italy. The church is dedicated to Saint Roch, known mainly as the patron saint of those afflicted with illness, specially the bubonic plague. Since Viterbo stood along a pilgrimage route to Rome, many ill pilgrims would find rest and care in hospitals and hospices along the route, tended by confraternities, some of which took the name of this saint.

Santa Maria in Poggio (St Mary on the Hill) is a Roman Catholic parish church located in the Piazza della Crocetta in the northeastern neighborhood of historic Viterbo, region of Lazio, Italy. The church was formerly the parish of St Rose of Viterbo, and is a block south of the monastery now named after her. Initially, the saint was buried for three years in this church, but exhumed, putatively intact, and reinterred in the Monaster Santa Rosa. The piazza in front has a Renaissance-era Fountain of Santa Rosa.

Santi Faustino e Giovita is a refurbished Romanesque-style, Roman Catholic church located on Piazza San Faustino in Viterbo, region of Lazio, Italy. The church is dedicated to the early Christian martyrs, Faustinus and Jovita.

The Fontana di San Faustino is a medieval fountain located Piazza San Faustino, in front of the parish church of Santi Faustino e Giovita, in the historic center of Viterbo, region of Lazio, Italy. A fountain was erected at this site by 1251, in an area only enclosed by city walls in 1210, and settled by many displaced from the destruction of Ferentium in 1172. The fountain was commissioned by the neighbors. An inscription between the sculpted heads of a lion below the spire bears the names of the masons. The fountain has been restored over the centuries.

The Gran Caffè Schenardi is a historic, private cafe or coffeehouse located on Corso Italia #11 in Central Viterbo, Italy on via Chiaia. It is located just off Piazza delle Erbe with its Fountain of the Lions.

Santa Maria della Peste is a small, Renaissance-style, octagonal temple-chapel (tempietto) located on Piazza del Caduti in Viterbo, region of Lazio, Italy. It has now been converted into a chapel dedicated to those fallen (caduti) in the wars of the 20th century. Across the piazza and Via Filippo Ascenzi is the church of San Giovanni Battista degli Almadiani.

The Teatro del Genio di Viterbo (Theater of the Genius of Viterbo) is the theatre stage and movie theatre in central Viterbo, region of Lazio, Italy. Located at the end of the dead-ended alleyway of Via del Teatro Genio. It is located around the block from Piazza del Erbe. While this was the earliest public theatre in Viterbo, after 1855 it was replaced as the main stage and opera house in town by the Teatro dell'Unione; it is presently shuttered.

The siege of Viterbo was fought in 1243 between the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II and the rebellious city of Viterbo, 50 km north of Rome.
