Heapham

Sturgate Airfield (ICAO: EGCS) is an aerodrome located 10 miles (16 km) north of Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England. Originally opened in 1944 as RAF Sturgate, the airfield was planned as an operational bomber air station, but opened too late to see active use. The RAF station was closed down between 1946 and 1953, but saw further service as a Royal Air Force base until 1964, providing a stop for USAF SAC fighter units being relocated to other bases. Owned and operated by Eastern Air Executive Ltd, the airfield has recently undergone improvement works since acquisition by the MPS Group of Companies.

Springthorpe is a village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 138. It is situated approximately 4 miles (6 km) east from the town of Gainsborough. Springthorpe is listed in Domesday Book as "Springetorp", consisting of 21 households and a church.The limestone parish church, which is dedicated to Saint Lawrence and Saint George, is a Grade I listed building dating from the 11th century, and restored in 1865. The font is 13th-century.The deserted medieval village of "Sturgate" or "Stourgate" was in the parish, and was documented from the end of the 12th century.

Upton is a small village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 456. It is geographically situated 3 miles (5 km) south-east from Gainsborough.

The West Riding of Lindsey was a division of the Lindsey part of Lincolnshire in England, along with the North and South ridings. It consisted of the north-western part of the county, and included the Isle of Axholme and the Aslacoe, Corringham, Manley, Lawress, and Well wapentakes. The administrative centre of the riding was Kirton-in-Lindsey, and the meeting place of the riding was Spital-in-the-Street. It is the most populous of the ridings, and covered 461 square miles (1,190 km2). At the time of the Domesday Book, the riding also contained Lincoln, although in 1409 the city left to become a county corporate. Other important towns included Gainsborough. It ceased to exist when the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire and the county of Humberside were formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972.

Kexby is a small village and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 340. It lies at the side of the B1241 road, and is situated 4 miles (6 km) south-east of Gainsborough and 11 miles (18 km) north-west of the city and county town of Lincoln.

Corringham is a civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated 5 km (3 mi) east of Gainsborough and 16 km (10 mi) south of Scunthorpe. Corringham comprises the two contiguous villages of Great Corringham and Little Corringham and at the 2011 census had a recorded population of 523.The hamlet of Yawthorpe lies due east of the village, and that of Bonsdale to the north. Gowin Knight, the first principal librarian of the British Museum was born here in 1713.

Willingham by Stow is a rural village in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish (known as Willingham) at the 2011 census was 488. It is situated on the B1241, 6 miles (10 km) south-east from Gainsborough and 10 miles (16.1 km) north-west from Lincoln. To the north is Kexby, to the south is Stow and to the east is Fillingham. The name 'Willingham' means 'homestead/village of the people of Willa'.

Gainsborough was rural district in Lincolnshire, Parts of Lindsey from 1894 to 1974. It was formed under the Local Government Act 1894 from that part of the Gainsborough rural sanitary district which was in Lindsey (the Nottinghamshire part becoming the Misterton Rural District). It was reduced in 1936 under a County Review Order by ceding the parishes of Haxey, Owston Ferry and West Butterwick, all part of the Isle of Axholme, to the Isle of Axholme Rural District. It was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, and incorporated into the new district of West Lindsey.

Somerby (or Somerby by Gainsborough) is a hamlet in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated 2 miles (3.2 km) south-east from the town of Gainsborough, and lies in the civil parish of Corringham. The settlement is best known as the home of Richard Topcliffe, the infamous Tudor torturer and persecutor of Roman Catholics. Topcliffe brought one of his victims, Anne Bellamy, to Somerby in 1593 where she had a baby - believed to be Topcliffe's. He died here in 1604.Excavations at Somerby in 1957 showed it was once larger, revealing 15th-century streets and house foundations, with finds ranging from the 12th to the 16th century. Much of the medieval village of Somerby was the site of an ancient deer park which belonged to Somerby Park mansion.Somerby Park is described in the 1872 Whites Directory as "a commodious ancient mansion in the Elizabethan style".

Aisby is a hamlet in the civil parish of Corringham, in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated just over 1 mile (1.6 km) north from the A631 road and Corringham, 4 miles (6 km) north-east from Gainsborough, and 5 miles (8 km) south-east from Kirton in Lindsey. Aisby is listed in the 1086 Domesday Book as "Aseby", in the Corringham Hundred of West Riding of Lindsey. It comprised 8 households, with 1 smallholder and 7 freemen. In 1066 Earl Edwin was Lord of the Manor; by 1086 this had been transferred to King William, who also became Tenant-in-chief.Old Hall, a Grade II listed building in Aisby, originates from the 14th century, with 17th-century alterations, and substantial alterations and additions in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Heynings Priory was a priory in Knaith, Lincolnshire, England. The priory of Heynings was founded by Rayner de Evermue, Lord of Knaith, for Cistercian nuns, probably early in the reign of King Stephen, and the patronage of the house remained with the lords of Knaith through most of its history. Rayner de Evermue died before its completion, leaving them with a meagre endowment which left them extremely poor. The priory was dissolved in 1539 by Jane Sanford, Prioress, and eleven nuns.The site was granted to Sir Thomas Heneage and his wife Katherine and at his death in 1553 passed by marriage to Lord Willoughby of Parham, along with the manor of Knaith. Heneage's grant in 1540 was 'the house and site of the late priory...the church, steeple and churchyard of the same'. The actual site is unknown but is believed to be at the site of Park Farm South.
