St John's Church, Hutton Roof

Hutton Roof is a village and civil parish in the South Lakeland district of Cumbria, England, close to Kirkby Lonsdale and Hutton Roof Crags. Historically in Westmorland, the parish includes the hamlet of Newbiggin. In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 193, increasing at the 2011 census to 218. Army Chaplain and Victoria Cross recipient Theodore Hardy (1863-1918) was Vicar of Hutton Roof while serving in the First World War.

All Saints Church is in the village of Lupton, Cumbria, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Kendal, the archdeaconry of Westmorland and Furness, and the diocese of Carlisle. Its benefice is united with those of seven local parishes, the benefice being entitled Kirkby Lonsdale Team Ministry, and known locally as the Rainbow Parish. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

Hutton Roof Crags is a hill in southeastern Cumbria in northwest England, located near to the village of Hutton Roof. It has extensive areas of limestone pavement as well as grassland and woodland. The hill forms the Hutton Roof Crags Site of Special Scientific Interest and is part of the Morecambe Bay Pavements Special Area of Conservation. A significant proportion of the UK's 20 km2 (7.7 sq mi) of limestone pavement is to be found on Hutton Roof Crags and the neighbouring Farleton Knott. Although part of the hill is pasture grazed by sheep and part is forested, much remains open common land, and it is here that most of the limestone pavement is to be found. However, much has been removed over the years for many purposes including building, agricultural fertiliser, and production of millstones, but is now protected by law and it is an offence to remove any. The limestone is over 300 m (980 ft) thick, and was laid down during the Carboniferous period some 350 million years ago. The limestone pavements here occupy an intermediate position between the low-lying pavements of Gait Barrows some 8 km (5.0 mi) to the west, and those on Ingleborough, 19 km (12 mi) to the east. Hutton Roof National Nature Reserve is managed by Cumbria Wildlife Trust, which leases Park Wood and Hutton Roof Common from Natural England and Hutton Roof Parish Council respectively.Plants including angular Solomon's seal (Polygonatum odoratum), limestone fern (Gymnocarpium robertianum), and dark red helleborine (Epipactis atrorubens) are to be found on the pavement. The nationally scarce rigid buckler-fern (Dryopteris submontana) is abundant on Hutton Roof Crags. Blue moor-grass (Sesleria caerulea) is also nationally scarce but abundant here. The name Hutton Roof Crags is believed to derive from the Old English language, and means ‘crags on hill near farmstead of Rolf’. Access is possible via the public footpath running across the north of the fell, but is probably easier through the woods to the south-west. The extensive low limestone outcrops make the Hutton Roof Crags a popular site for bouldering.

Lupton is a linear village and civil parish in the South Lakeland district of Cumbria, England, along the main A65 road north west of Kirkby Lonsdale, 2.3 miles (3.7 km) from the village of Hutton Roof. In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 165, decreasing slightly at the 2011 census to 162.As well as All Saints Church, the village has a public house, the Plough. Lupton Tower is an 18th-century house now used as a corporate head office.

Docker is a hamlet in the civil parish of Whittington, Lancashire, England. It is in the City of Lancaster district, north of Arkholme and south west of Whittington. There are two grade 2 listed buildings: Docker Hall farmhouse and Docker Cottage.The Victoria County History records that the township of Whittington "was formerly divided into two parts, Whittington proper to the north ... and Newton with Docker to the south", and its earliest mention of Docker is a "Henry Brabin of Docker" (fl.1585).

Dalton is a hamlet and former civil parish, now in the parish of Burton-in-Kendal, in the Westmorland and Furness district, Cumbria, England. Until 1894 it was in Lancashire, but was transferred to Westmorland "in accordance with the unanimous desire of the inhabitants". In 1961 the parish had a population of 99. Dalton was formerly a township in Burton-in-Kendal parish, from 1866 Dalton was a civil parish in its own right until it was abolished on 1 April 1986 and merged with Burton to form "Burton-in-Kendal".Dalton is located about a mile east of Burton-in-Kendal and gives its name to Dalton Crags and Dalton Hall. Remains of medieval settlements in the area have been recorded by archaeologists, and "Dalton medieval village and parts of its associated medieval open field system centred 620m ENE of Dalton Hall" is listed as a scheduled monument.Dalton Old Hall farmhouse is a grade II listed building.

Preston Patrick is a village and civil parish in South Lakeland, Cumbria, England. It has junction 36 of the M6 motorway in its south west corner and extends north east on both sides of the motorway until just beyond the B2564 road. In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 438, decreasing at the 2011 census to 426.It is set in the drumlin landscape south of Kendal. The neighbouring parishes are Old Hutton and Holmescales to the north, Lupton to the east, Beetham to the south and Preston Richard to the west.

Dalton Hall is a country house near Burton-in-Kendal in northern England. The hall lies within the county palatine of Lancaster, while Burton lies in the historic county of Westmorland. Both have formed part of Cumbria since 1974. The hall has been in the ownership of the Hornby family since the late 18th century. Major additions were made to the large Georgian mansion in 1859–60 by Edmund Geoffrey Stanley Hornby (1839-1923), a Deputy Lieutenant for Lancashire, son and heir of Edmund Hornby (1773-1857), MP, to the designs of the Lancaster architect Edward Graham Paley. The building was demolished in 1968 and replaced in 1968–72 by a much smaller new house designed by Clough Williams-Ellis, his last commission. Pevsner described it as "a stately doll's house" which "sits inside the ghost of its predecessor". The outbuildings have been converted to serve a number of commercial purposes, including rental cottages, a self-storage facility, and the Dalton Hall Business Centre.

Newton is a hamlet in the civil parish of Whittington, Lancashire, England. It is in the City of Lancaster district, south of Whittington on the B 6254 road and about half a mile west of the River Lune. There are four grade 2 listed buildings: the 1692 "House in grounds west of Newton Hall", the 1692 Newton Gate, the "late C17th and mid C19th" Newton Hall Farmhouse and the "rebuilt probably in 1880s, probably by Paley and Austin" Newton Hall.The Victoria County History records that the township of Whittington "was formerly divided into two parts, Whittington proper to the north ... and Newton with Docker to the south", and its earliest mention of Newton is "Henry Brabin died in 1617 holding ... lands ... in Whittington and Newton".

Farleton is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Beetham, in the South Lakeland local government district, Cumbria, England. In 1931 the parish had a population of 67.Historically within the county of Westmorland, Farleton lies near Milnthorpe, just to the east of the main A6070 road, from which it is divided by the Lancaster Canal, some 8+1⁄2 miles (13.7 km) south of Kendal. Farleton used to have one public house called 'the Duke' after the Grand Old Duke of York but this was turned into a dwelling house in the early part of the twentieth century. With Farleton there is a small river and one post box. There is also a limestone kiln and the remains of a limestone quarry. Farleton was formerly a township in Beetham parish, from 1866 Farleton was a civil parish in its own right until it was abolished on 1 April 1935 and merged with Beetham.

Clawthorpe is a hamlet in the South Lakeland district, in the county of Cumbria, England. It is near the village of Burton-in-Kendal and the town of Kendal. Clawthorpe is on the A6070 road and nearly on the M6 motorway, but there is no access to Clawthorpe from the motorway.

Arkholme for Kirkby Lonsdale railway station served the village of Arkholme in Lancashire, England. It is situated on what is now the Leeds–Morecambe line between the current Wennington and Carnforth stations.
