Stadttheater Meran

The Merano Tramway was built and opened in 1908 to satisfy the urban transport requirement in the town of Merano, at that time an important town in the Austrian monarchy. There was already a tramway crossing the town, the Lana-Merano railway. The new tram line was to cross the town at right angles to the existing line. The line started at the then-new Vinschger Bahn station, it went on to Mazzini Square and Theatre Square, where there was a junction with the Lana-Merano railway. After crossing the Post Bridge the line inclined sharply, and after eight kilometres it terminated at the Fountain Square in the Obermais quarter. The Tram Depot was at the rear of the cemetery, and is used today by the city's bus company. The profit of the company was not very high during the years the tram line operated. So after some time some of the cars were sold to the Bolzano Tramway company. In the 1950s, like many other railway lines in the region, the tram was substituted by a bus line. Apart from the garage behind the cemetery, all traces of the line have been erased. In political campaigns by local politicians, there has been sometimes talk of reactivating the tram to reduce air pollution in the town, which today has a lot of traffic.

Forst is an Italian brewing company, based in Forst (Italian: Foresta), a frazione (municipal subdivision) of Algund (Italian: Lagundo), South Tyrol. The brewery was founded in 1857 by two entrepreneurs, Johann Wallnöfer and Franz Tappeiner, from Meran (Italian: Merano). Later in 1863, the company passed to the entrepreneur Josef Fuchs, who enlarged the plant in Forst. In 2004, Forst opened a small microbrewery in Forst, Germany.

The Kurhaus of Meran, South Tyrol is a famous building in the town and a symbol of it. The ornate structure was constructed at a time when Meran became a popular spa resort due to the frequent visits of Empress Elisabeth of Austria and the aristocracy. The building's original structure, which is today's west wing, was constructed in 1874 while the newer wing was added in 1912 and 1914 by the Viennese Jugendstil architect Friedrich Ohmann. The exterior features a large portico with columns and is decorated with allegorical statues. The rotunda is visible from far. The interior is decorated with paintings by Rudolf Jettmar, Orazio Gaigher and Alexander Rothaug and has various conference and exhibitions rooms that are used for events and concerts. The grand Kursaal is the most spectacular hall in the building. The spa area has various recreational rooms, salons, reading room and originally also a smoker's lounge. Gambling was also organised in the Kursaal by a gentleman's society until it became official after World War II.

The Women's Museum Merano is located in a former convent of the Poor Clares in the centre of Meran (Italy). It is administrated by an association and is also the registration office of the International Association of Women's Museums (IAWM).

The St. Nicholas' Church (Italian: Chiesa di San Nicolò; German: Pfarrkirche St. Nikolaus) or Duomo di Merano is the parish church of the town of Merano in South Tyrol, northern Italy. It was built in the 13th century and dedicated to Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of the town. It is located at the end of the Laubengasse in the old town centre between the Domplatz and Pfarrplatz. The architectural style is mainly Gothic.The church consists of three naves. It has well-preserved stained glass windows, and a large rose window over a pointed arched portal, a number of wooden sculptures of saints and paintings that date from different periods. Of particular importance is the large altar and pulpit. Outside is a tall clock tower with a sundial. Old tombstones line the walls and various paintings from the life of Jesus Christ. Behind the church is St. Barbara's Chapel.

The St. Barbara's Chapel (German: St.-Barbara-Kapelle) is a chapel located in the town of Merano in South Tyrol, northern Italy. The chapel stands right behind the St. Nicholas' Church, Merano. The layout of the chapel is octagonal. It was built by the architect Hans von Burghausen in 1450, who also designed the Hospital Church. The chapel served as the burial chapel of the town for many centuries until the cemetery was moved to another location in 1848. The basement served as the ossuary while the main floor was used for religious ceremonies and prayers. It features a number of wooden pews and a wooden Gothic altar, flanked by two altars from the Baroque period. Outside the entrance has a painting depicting Saint Christopher.

Merano (UK: , US: , Italian: [meˈraːno] ) or Meran (German: [meˈʁaːn] ) is a comune (municipality) in South Tyrol, Northern Italy. Generally best known for its spa resorts, it is located within a basin, surrounded by mountains standing up to 3,335 metres (10,942 feet) above sea level, at the entrance to the Passeier Valley and the Vinschgau. The city has been a popular place of residence for several scientists, literary people, and artists, including Franz Kafka, Ezra Pound, Paul Lazarsfeld, and also Empress Elisabeth of Austria, who appreciated its mild climate.

The Steinerner Steg (Italian: Ponte Romano) is a two-arched, stone-built footbridge across the Passer in Merano, South Tyrol, northern Italy. The oldest bridge in the town, it connects the historic centre and the Steinach district with the Obermais quarter.In 1615 the wooden aqueduct which spanned the river here had fallen into disrepair and the town decided to demolish it and build a stone bridge in its place. The following year Andrä Tanner, an architect from Brixen, was contracted to build the replacement. Scarcely had the works been completed, however, when the new bridge was washed away in a flood. The current structure was completed in 1617. The bridge is in close proximity to the Passeirer Tor, one of the town gates of Merano.

The Burggrafenamt (Italian: Burgraviato [burɡraˈvjaːto], German: Burggrafenamt) is a district (Italian: comprensorio, German: Bezirksgemeinschaft) in the western part of the Italian province of South Tyrol. It comprises the part of the Adige river valley between Naturns and Bolzano, and its side valleys Passeier Valley and Ulten Valley.

The Passer (German pronunciation: [pasɐ]; Italian: Passirio [pasˈsiːrjo]) is a 42.6-kilometre (26.5 mi) torrent in northern Italy, a left tributary of the Adige, whose entire course lies within South Tyrol. The stream rises near the Alpine pass between Italy and Austria known as the Timmelsjoch, and flows through the Passeier Valley where the most important settlement is St. Leonhard in Passeier. The river joins the Adige at Merano, where it is a significant site for competitive canoeing, beneath the Steinerner Steg.
