Everettsville is an unincorporated community in Albemarle County, Virginia. It was named for Dr. Charles Everett who in 1821 bought the 400-acre tract called Pouncey's of the Shadwell tract from Thomas Jefferson. He more than doubled his property to more than 1,000 acres. The area became known as Everettsville.In the mid-19th century, it was a point along the stagecoach route between Richmond and Staunton. Nicholas Trist's wife and children briefly took up residence here in early 1829 as they awaited word to follow Trist to Washington.

Clifton is a historic home located near Shadwell, Albemarle County, Virginia. It was built about 1800, and is a large, rambling two-story, five-bay, wood frame dwelling. The house has later 19th- and 20th-century Colonial Revival-style additions and alterations. The front facade features a double level porch, added about 1930, and the interior has Federal details. Also on the property are the contributing brick office (c. 1833–1845); the ruins of an early 19th-century spring house; the shaft of a 19th-century stone-lined ice house; an early 20th-century chicken coop and an altered 1920s brick garage.Clifton was built by Congressman and Virginia Governor Thomas Mann Randolph, Jr. (1768–1828), who was married to Martha Jefferson, the daughter of President Thomas Jefferson. It was part of the never-to-be port of North Milton, a sister port to the now extinct village of Milton directly across the Rivanna River. With his partners, Randolph planned North Milton to support commercial and agricultural development, situated along the Milton Canal of the Rivanna River. The Clifton house first began as a warehouse and Randolph had a separate office building, which is still on the Clifton grounds. The house was expanded later and during the 19th century it had a one-story veranda, which has been replaced by the portico. Situated on 100 acres, it has operated as an inn since 1983. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Milton is an unincorporated community in Albemarle County, Virginia. In the batteaux era Milton was the head of navigation along the river, but by the mid-nineteenth century horse-drawn canal boats were traveling all the way upstream to Charlottesville, where the head of navigation was located at the very point where the Fredericksburg Road (now VA 20) and Three Chopt Road (U.S. Route 250).

Belmont Plantation, also known as Belmont Estate and Belmont, is a locale in Albemarle County, Virginia, and the site of a 19th-century plantation. It was among the first patents in Albemarle County, patented in the 1730s. Matthew Graves sold a 2,500-acre-tract to John Harvie Sr., a friend of Peter Jefferson and a guardian of Thomas Jefferson. After his death in 1767, the property was inherited by his son John Harvie, Jr. Harvie lived at Belmont for several years, but after he was appointed the Registrar of Land Grants, he moved to Richmond, Virginia and John Rogers oversaw the plantation. Rogers was known for his progressive approaches to agriculture, including methods for improving the quality of the soil after years of tobacco crops. In 1811, Dr. Charles Everett purchased 636 or 650 acres of the Belmont estate from John Rogers. This split the tract and Rogers' portion was named East Belmont. He owned slaves in the 1800s, whom he freed. In his will, he stipulated creation of a community for them in Pennsylvania, a free state. It was called Pandenarium. Everett died in 1848 and left Belmont to his nephew, Charles D. Everett. It remained within the Everett family until 1927, during which there were significant changes to the residence. After World War II, there was a major remodeling of the interior and exterior of the manor. Belmont was used as a location in the filming of Giant (1956), starring Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor.

Edge Hill, also known as Edgehill and Edgehill Farm, is a historic house located near Shadwell in Albemarle County, Virginia, United States.

Harris Farm is a historic farm property at 2950 Thomas Jefferson Highway (Virginia State Route 53), in rural eastern Albemarle County, Virginia. The farm, more than 200 acres (81 ha) in size, fronts on both the Rivanna River (east) and Buck Island Creek (south), with the access drive to the main complex on the east side of the road. The centerpiece of the farm complex is a farmhouse whose oldest portion is a Greek Revival I-house built about 1850 by Robert Gentry. In 1898 the house was sold to Hilton Ashby Harris, who increased the house's size by building a second I-house directly attached to the front of the first. A cross-gabled rear projecting ell was added at some time in the early 20th century. The house represents a creative adaptation of traditional housing forms, as well as exemplifying changing construction techniques associated with those forms.The farm property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

Keswick is a Census-designated place in Albemarle County, Virginia, United States, about six miles east of Charlottesville.

Monticello is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) located in the central Piedmont region of the Commonwealth of Virginia. It was established by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) on February 22, 1984 after six wine grape growers in the Charlottesville area petitioned the ATF to designate a viticultural area to be known as “Monticello.” The name "Monticello" is known nationally and locally as the historic home of Thomas Jefferson, located near the center of the area. Monticello AVA includes most of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Orange, and Nelson counties. The area is nestled along the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains and encompasses the small ridge known as the Southwest Mountains. There are approximately 30 varieties of grapes grown in the Monticello AVA. However, the most notable grapes grown in the area include Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay and Viognier. The hardiness zone is 7a except in some higher vineyards which are 6b. In 2019, the Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) granted a petition to expand the AVA by approximately 106,240 acres (166 sq mi) into Fluvanna County.

East Belmont is a historic farm and national historic district located near Keswick, Albemarle County, Virginia. The district encompasses 3 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 1 contributing structure. The original house, now the rear ell, was built about 1811–1814, and is a two-story, three-bay, gable roofed frame structure. In 1834, a two-story, five-bay Federal style brick structure was added as the main house. A one-story, glass sunroom was added in the 1960s. The front facade features a two-story, pedimented portico. Also on the property are a contributing 19th-century corncrib, early 20th-century stone and frame barn, and an early 20th-century henhouse.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Boyd Tavern, also known as Old Boyd Tavern, Watson's Ordinary, and Shepherd's Inn, is a historic tavern located in Boyd Tavern, Albemarle County, Virginia. It was built about 1831, and is a two-story, two-over-two, three-bay double-pile frame structure. It sits on a fieldstone foundation and has a side-gable roof. A one-story addition was built in the early 20th century. The property includes a family cemetery used by the Shepherds, owners of the property from the mid-1800s to 1937. The building housed a tavern, store, and post office at various times until 1937, when it became a single-family dwelling. The house was renovated in 1978.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

Shadwell is a census-designated place (CDP) in Albemarle County, Virginia. It is located by the Rivanna River near Charlottesville. The site today is marked by a Virginia Historical Marker to mark the birthplace of President Thomas Jefferson. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places along with Clifton.Before early colonists moved into the Shadwell area, Monacan people had trails that traversed what became Shadwell. Peter Jefferson, the father of President Thomas Jefferson established and named the Shadwell plantation in the mid-18th century. Four generations of the Jefferson family lived at Shadwell. Initially, it was a plantation worked by enslaved and free people and grew tobacco, grain, and clover. Then, a grist mill, sawmill, and carding factory expanded the Shadwell economy. Canals and locks were constructed in the Rivanna River to transport goods, including lumber, flour, grain, and cotton-yard. After the carding factory burned down in the 1850s and the Louisa Railroad was completed, Shadwell began to decline economically. After that, the Shadwell estate became a farm, operated by Downing Smith. In 1991, an archaeological study found remnants of foundations and cellars of two houses, one of which is believed to be the original Jefferson house. Located within the Shadwell, Virginia area are the Clifton and Edge Hill historic homes.
