Wahlenpark

The Kalaidos University of Applied Sciences Switzerland (Kalaidos UAS) is a University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland with the departments of Business and Management, Law, Health, Music and Applied Psychology. It was founded in 1997 and today is one of nine accredited Swiss Universities of Applied Sciences, being the only privately owned one. It has 4’400 students, 725 lecturers (as of December 31, 2021) and around 12’000 graduates. Kalaidos UAS is a foundation, which is a federally accredited University of Applied Sciences under Swiss law.

The Oerliker Park is a public multi-purpose district park covering 188,000 square feet (17,500 m2) in Oerlikon, just to the north of Zürich. The Oerliker Park was created by the Grün Stadt Zürich in 2001 as part of the regional development project "Zentrum Zürich Nord" and was the first of four parks. The MFO-Park (2002), the Louis-Häfliger-Park (2003) and the Wahlenpark (2005) were built close-by, each of which are matched to local needs as district- and neighbourhood-parks, as well as playgrounds. Taken together, these parks embody contemporary trends of open space planning and landscape architecture. Over the course of the regional development "Zentrum Zürich Nord", the formerly urban and industrial district was given a new face.

Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon was a Swiss engineering company based in the Zürich district of Oerlikon known for the early development of electric locomotives. It was founded in 1876 by the industrialist Peter Emil Huber-Werdmüller, and occupied a large site immediately to the west of Oerlikon railway station. In 1906 the armaments business was demerged to form Schweizerische Werkzeugmaschinenfabrik Oerlikon, which evolved into the technology company OC Oerlikon and the armaments company Rheinmetall Air Defence (formerly Oerlikon Contraves). In 1967 Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon was taken over by Brown, Boveri & Cie, which in 1988 merged with ASEA to form ABB Group. The site of the company's works has been redeveloped, including the innovative public MFO-Park. In the second decade of the 21st century, a project was initiated to expand Oerlikon railway station, with the provision of two additional platform tracks on north-western side of the station. This affected the site of the former office building of Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon, dating from the late 19th century and now a restaurant complex known as Gleis 9. Because of its cultural importance to the region, plans to demolish the building were rejected, and instead the 6,200-tonne (6,800-ton) building was moved 60 meters (200 ft) to the west on specially laid tracks. The move took place in May 2012, and took 19 hours.

The MFO-Park is a public park in the Oerlikon quarter of the Swiss city of Zürich. The area to the north of Zürich Oerlikon railway station was once home to the extensive works of Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon (MFO), as site that has now been redeveloped as Neu Oerlikon. As part of that redevelopment, four new parks were created, including the MFO-Park, which was created on the footprint of one of MFO's buildings. The project was designed by the architects Burckhardt + Partner, landscape architects Raderschallpartner and structural engineers Basler & Hofmann AG.The park is characterized by its modern and unusual design. The large “Park-Haus” is a double-walled steel-framed construction, 100 m (330 ft) in length, 35 m (115 ft) in width and 17 m (56 ft) high, reminiscent of a conservatory without glass. It is covered by a trellis (or treillage) and covered with climbing plants, resulting in a space that is filled by ever changing light, shadow and smells. The large hall space is broken up by four plant-covered wire chalices. The water basin planted with irises is located in a sunken area that is floored with recycled glass. The spaces between the double walls contain staircases, linking to balconies and platforms at different levels, including a sun deck high up on the roof that offers views over northern Zürich.The MFO-Park accommodates a number of different activities. The facility is suitable for sport and games, for meetings of all kinds, or events such as film screenings, concerts and theatrical performances – all with a baroque backdrop of hedges. Small silent garden rooms with a view into the hall are created in the spaces between the walls, just like opera boxes.The foundation stone was laid in autumn 2001 and the MFO-Park was inaugurated in summer 2002. As originally planned, there was intended to be a second phase which would feature an area with plant-covered pillars in front of the south side of the hall. Zürich Seebach (German: Zürich Seebach) is a railway station in the Seebach quarter of the Swiss city of Zürich. It is located on the Wettingen–Effretikon railway line (Furttal line).

Zürich Oerlikon railway station (German: Bahnhof Zürich Oerlikon) is a railway station located in the District 11 of Zürich. Together with Zurich Airport, it is one of the two major nodal points for local and regional public transportation in the northern part of Zürich. Oerlikon station is a keilbahnhof: tracks 1 and 2 are on the Zürich–Winterthur line, while tracks 3–8 are on the Oerlikon–Bülach line. The station building, located on the side of the station, is listed in the Swiss inventory of cultural property of national and regional significance as a Class B object of regional importance.Eleven regional train lines of the Zürich S-Bahn serve the station as do several InterCity, InterRegio and RegioExpress lines. Serving approximately 85,000 daily rail passengers, Zürich Oerlikon is the seventh busiest railway station in Switzerland. It is furthermore served by three tramway and nine local bus lines. The station has the central place of the city quarter Oerlikon with dedicated shopping areas to its south, the redeveloped former Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon to its north, and the Leutschenbach business quarter as well as Switzerlands most prominent indoor arena Hallenstadion to the east.

The Swissôtel Zürich, formerly known as the Hotel International Zürich, was a luxury hotel in the Swiss city of Zürich. The hotel was located in the Oerlikon quarter of the city, directly opposite Zürich Oerlikon railway station, and roughly halfway between the city centre and Zurich Airport.The hotel was part of the chain managed by Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts, which is based in Zürich and is part of the FRHI Hotels & Resorts group. It had 350 guest rooms and a height of 85 metres (279 ft), making it the tallest hotel in Zürich.As well as hotel and conference facilities, the hotel contained a bar and restaurant (Le Muh), a branch of the Starbucks coffee chain, a hairdresser and a confectionery shop.

The Louis-Häfliger-Park in Oerlikon, Zurich, covers 5,000 m2 (53,820 sq ft) and is embedded between the Regina-Kägi-Hof co-operative settlement, the existing production buildings for Oerlikon-Contraves AG, and new service buildings. It is a neighbourhood park allowing people who live or work here to relax and meet. The park is named after Louis Häfliger (1904–1993), "Saviour of Mauthausen". He saved the lives of about 40,000 inmates of the Mauthausen concentration camp.

The Gustav-Ammann-Park is a public park in Oerlikon, Zurich, is built on the former area of the Bürhle AG and covers 32,291 ft². In 1996, the privately owned park became a preserve. One year later, the formerly nameless facility was handed over to the population as Gustav-Ammann-Park. It was gently renovated in 2004/2005, maintaining all historical garden monuments. The name of the park reminds us of Gustav Ammann (1886–1955), a well-known Swiss landscape architect who worked in the modernist style.

Oerlikon is a quarter in the northern part of the city of Zürich, Switzerland. A formerly independent municipality, Oerlikon was merged with Zürich in 1934 and forms today, together with Affoltern and Seebach, the city district 11.

Kantonsschule Zürich Nord (KZN) is a Swiss cantonal gymnasium (Langzeit-, Kurzzeit, und Fachmittelschule) in Oerlikon, northern Zürich, Switzerland. The school, which first opened in 2012, was formed by the merger of Kantonsschule Zürich Birch and Kantonsschule Oerlikon (see German WP).

The Hallenstadion (German: Zürcher Hallenstadion, Zürich Indoor Stadium) is a multi-purpose facility located in the quarter of Oerlikon in northern Zürich. It is home to the ZSC Lions of the National League (NL) and has a capacity of 11,200 spectators. Designed by Bruno Giacometti, it opened on November 4, 1939, and was renovated in 2004–05. The Lions are set to move out of the Hallenstadion at the end of the 2021/22 season to move in a new 12,000-seat arena a few kilometers away in the Altstetten area. Construction for the new Swiss Life Arena officially began on 6 March 2019, with completion scheduled for the summer of 2022.
