Barre ( BARR-ee) is a town in Washington County, Vermont, United States. The population was 7,923 at the 2020 census, making it the 3rd largest municipality in Washington County and the 16th largest municipality in Vermont. Popularly referred to as "Barre Town", the town of Barre almost completely surrounds "Barre City", which is a separate municipality. The original town now known as Barre was first chartered in 1780 as the Town of Wildersburgh. In 1793 the name Wildersburgh was unpopular with the inhabitants and the name of the town was changed to Barre. In 1895 the City of Barre was incorporated and separated from the town of Barre, and both continue to exist as separate municipalities.

Thunder Road International Speedbowl, more commonly known as just Thunder Road, is a .25-mile (0.40 km) high-banked, paved short track speedway located in the town of Barre, Vermont. The track was founded by Ken Squier in 1960. and sold by Squier and co-owner Tom Curley in the spring of 2017 to former Thunder Road track champion Cris Michaud and local businessman Pat Malone. Currently, Thunder Road hosts three weekly divisions: Late Models, Flying Tigers, and Street Stocks. The track is known for hosting its weekly races on Thursday night. As of April 2020, it was one of three active race tracks in Vermont.

Websterville is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Barre, Washington County, Vermont, United States. The population of the CDP was 550 at the 2010 census. Prior to 2010, it was part of the Graniteville-East Barre CDP, which consisted of three unincorporated villages in the town: Graniteville, East Barre, and Websterville.

Vermont Creamery is a creamery and artisanal cheese and butter-maker in Websterville, Vermont, USA. It was founded in 1984 by business partners Allison Hooper and Bob Reese. Previously known as the Vermont Butter and Cheese Company, the company adopted its current name in 2013.

Graniteville-East Barre is a former census-designated place (CDP) defined for the 2000 census in the town of Barre, Washington County, Vermont, United States. The population of the CDP was 2,136 at the 2000 census. The CDP consisted of three unincorporated villages in the town: Graniteville, East Barre, and Websterville. For the 2010 census, the three areas have been split into separate CDPs in accordance with the 2010 criterion of not aggregating multiple places into one CDP.

The Washington-4 District includes all of the Washington County town of Barre Town. As of the 2000 census, the state as a whole had a population of 608,827. As there are a total of 150 representatives, there were 4,059 residents per representative (or 8,118 residents per two representatives). The two member Washington-4 District had a population of 7,602 in that same census, 6.36% below the state average.

The Washington-3-1 District includes a section of the Washington County City of Barre defined as follows: That portion of the City of Barre bounded on the north, east and south by Barre Town, and bounded on the west by a line running along the center of Hall Street to the intersection of Elm Street, then along the center of Elm Street to the intersection of North Main Street, then along the center of North Main Street to the intersection of Prospect Street, then along the center of Prospect Street to the intersection of Allen Street, then along the western back lot line of Allen Street to the Barre Town boundary. The rest of the City of Barre is in Washington-3-2 and Washington-3-3. As of the 2000 census, the state as a whole had a population of 608,827. As there are a total of 150 representatives, there were 4,059 residents per representative (or 8,118 residents per two representatives). The one member Washington-3-1 District had a population of 4,173 in that same census, 2.81% above the state average.

East Barre is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Barre, Washington County, Vermont, United States. The population of the CDP was 826 at the 2010 census. Prior to 2010, East Barre was part of the Graniteville-East Barre CDP, which consisted of three unincorporated villages in the town: Graniteville, East Barre, and Websterville.

Barre granite /ˈbæri/ is a Devonian granite pluton near the town of Barre in Washington County, Vermont. Richardson described it as a "fine granite, composed of quartz, feldspar, and mica. The mica is both muscovite and biotite." It intrudes into the Waits River Formation.

The Reynolds House, currently the Reynolds House Inn, is a historic house at 102 South Main Street in the city of Barre, Vermont. Built in the 1890s, it is a well-preserved high-style example of Late Victorian architecture, exhibiting both Queen Anne and Second Empire features. Built for a local merchant, it is a rare survivor of what was once a series of high-profile residences south of downtown Barre. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020.

The Vermont Historical Society (VHS) was founded in 1838 to preserve and record the cultural history of the US state of Vermont. Headquartered in the old Spaulding School Building in Barre, the Vermont History Center is home to the Vermont Historical Society's administrative offices, the Leahy Library and a small book shop. In Montpelier the Society operates the Vermont History Museum in the Pavilion building, just east of the Vermont State House.

Howard and Alba Leahy Library is located in the Vermont History Center in Barre, VT. It is housed in the old Spaulding School Building and run by the Vermont Historical Society, which is also located in the same building.
