South Axholme Academy

Epworth is a town and civil parish on the Isle of Axholme, in the North Lincolnshire unitary authority of Lincolnshire, England. The town lies on the A161, about halfway between Goole and Gainsborough. As the birthplace of John Wesley and Charles Wesley, it has given its name to many institutions associated with Methodism. Their father, Samuel Wesley, was the rector from 1695 to 1735.

The Old Rectory in Epworth, Lincolnshire is a Queen Anne-style building, rebuilt in 1709, which has been restored and is now the property of the Methodist Church of Great Britain, who maintain it as a museum. The rectory was home to the rector of Epworth from 1697 to 1735, the Reverend Samuel Wesley, his wife Susanna and their 19 children, one of whom, John Wesley, grew up to become a founder of Methodism. On 9 February 1709, while the Wesleys were resident, a fire burnt down the wooden rectory and it was rebuilt in brick. The Old Rectory is a Grade I listed building.In 1954 the Church of England sold the rectory to the British Methodist Church, who purchased it with financial support from the World Methodist Council. The building was restored by Thomas Rayson and some of the external features were returned to how the Wesleys would have known the house. The Old Rectory is managed by a board of trustees appointed by the British Methodist Conference and the World Methodist Council. The chair of trustees (2015) is the Rev. Graham Carter, a past president of the Methodist Conference.It is the site of supposed paranormal events that occurred in 1716, while the Wesley family was living in the house.

Belshaw is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in Lincolnshire, England. It lies to the west of the village of Belton in the Isle of Axholme. The site, which was designated a SSSI in 1988, is a short length of land along a disused railway line and is important because it supports a colony of greater yellow-rattle. This is a nationally rare plant which receives special protection under Schedule 8 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981. Once widely distributed, this species is now known to occur at only six localities in Great Britain.

Belton is a village and civil parish in the Isle of Axholme area of North Lincolnshire, England. It is situated on the A161 road, and approximately 6 miles (10 km) west of Scunthorpe. To the north of Belton is the town of Crowle; to the south, the town of Epworth.Belton parish boundaries include the hamlets of Beltoft, Sandtoft, Churchtown, Bracon, Carrhouse, Mosswood, Grey Green and Westgate. Within the parish is the now dispersed country house estate of Temple Belwood. Hirst Priory at Sandtoft still stands. According to the 1991 Census, Belton had a population of 2,549, increasing to 2,968 at the 2011 census.

East Lound is a hamlet in the civil parish of Haxey in North Lincolnshire, England. It is situated approximately 22 miles (35 km) to the north-west from the city and county town of Lincoln, and on Brackenhill Road within the parish of Haxey, a village less than 1 mile (1.6 km) to the west. Owston Ferry on the River Trent is 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the east. East Lound forms part of the Isle of Axholme. East Lound is recorded in the 1086 Domesday Book as "Lund", being a name for both the later East Lound and Graizelound, and under both the entry for Haxey and Owston Ferry in the hundred of Epworth. The lord of the manor following Domesday was Geoffrey of la Guerche, who was also Tenant-in-chief to King William I.In 1855 East Lound occupations included fifteen farmers, two wheelwrights, and a shopkeeper who was also a shoemaker. By 1885 the number of farmers had reduced to twelve and there was only one wheelwright. In 1933 there were ten farmers and a smallholder, a seed grower, and one shop with two shopkeepers. A Primitive Methodist chapel was built at East Lound in 1862, and was closed in 1958.

Brigg and Goole is a constituency in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Andrew Percy, a Conservative.The constituency is among a small minority of constituencies that span two ceremonial counties, in this case Lincolnshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire. The industrial port of Goole is the biggest settlement in the constituency. There are over 70 towns and villages in the constituency, including the Lodge Moor and Skippingdale areas of Scunthorpe. The constituency also includes part of the Scunthorpe Steel Works and the Scunthorpe United football ground, as well as the Isle of Axholme. The constituency is split across North Lincolnshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire and borders South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. The seat is due to be abolished for the next general election.

Isle of Axholme was a rural district in Lincolnshire, Parts of Lindsey from 1894 to 1974. It was formed under the Local Government Act 1894 based on the Lincolnshire parts of the Thorne rural sanitary district and two parishes of the Goole RSD (covering the northern part of the Isle of Axholme). After the abolition of Crowle Urban District and taking in some parishes from the Gainsborough Rural District in 1936, it covered all of the Isle. It was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 and went to form part of the Boothferry district of Humberside. Since 1996 it has been incorporated in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire.

Beltoft is a hamlet in the civil parish of Belton , North Lincolnshire, England. The village lies within the Isle of Axholme and is 4 miles (6 km) south-east of Crowle. There is a gas offtake from the National Transmission System at Beltoft, which is run by Scottish Power. It is connected by a 9.3-mile (15.0 km) pipeline to a gas compression station on Hatfield Moor, which pumps gas into a depleted natural gas field located 1,450 feet (440 m) below the moor. When more gas is required, the gas is extracted again, and re-enters the National Transmission System at Beltoft.The only public building in the village is the Methodist Chapel. In the 18th century, the Quakers were quite active in the area and had their own burial ground in the village. This site was reused by the Methodists, who built the first chapel there in 1833. That building was demolished, and a new chapel was built in 1904, and the premises were extended in 1923, when a Sunday School was added. The building sits on a wide plot, with a grassed area to the east of it, which was the former burial ground.Beltoft was one of the first villages to benefit from the third phase of the Northern Lincs Broadband initiative, a programme designed to ensure that rural communities were not left out in the provision of super-fast and ultra-fast broadband services. The multi-million-pound programme uses Fibre to the premises (FTTP) technology, which involves running fibre-optic cables from the telephone exchange into the business premises or homes of customers. Many other parts of North Lincolnshire will have a Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) service, which provides super-fast broadband but not the ultra-fast service available in Beltoft. The scheme is funded by North Lincolnshire Council and benefitted from £2.9 million saved by efficiencies during the first phase of the programme.
