Stanley is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England. It is about 2.5 miles (4.0 km) north-east of Wakefield city centre. Stanley was an Urban District in the West Riding of Yorkshire before 1974, being made up the four electoral wards of Lake Lock, Outwood, Stanley and Wrenthorpe. The Lofthouse / Stanley area of West Yorkshire has a combined population of 22,947. The ward remaining at the 2011 Census was called Stanley and Outwood East. The population of this ward at the 2011 Census was 15,314.

St Peter's Church in Stanley, Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England was a Church of England church. The church opened in 1824, closed in 2001 and after falling into disrepair was demolished in 2014.

Stanley railway station on the Methley Joint Railway served the village of Stanley east of Outwood, Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Some early railways already served the local collieries before 1840. When Methley Joint Railway was built a site on Aberford Road was chosen for Stanley station which opened 1 May 1869. By 1906, the station had two platforms and a station building with a remarkably high pitched roof. Sixteen trains per day stopped at Stanley in the 1920s. Main freights were coal and rhubarb, the latter was conveyed as far as London. Originally equipped with a Saxby and Farmer signal box, the station gained a Great Northern Railway Type 1 signal box with a 30 lever frame in 1884. In 1961 Stanley was served by passenger trains running between Leeds Central and Castleford, with some of then continuing to and from Pontefract Baghill or Goole. Diminishing cost-effectiveness of the line led to its closure on 2 November 1964, in the course of the Beeching cuts. No trace remains of the station. A housing development has been built on its grounds.

Wakefield and Rothwell is a constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament. Following the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, it was first contested at the 2024 general election.

Stanley Ferry Aqueduct was built between 1836 and 1839 to take the Aire and Calder Navigation over the River Calder in West Yorkshire, England. It is one of the earliest through arch bridges in the world and is considered to be the longest span aqueduct executed in cast iron.Designed by George Leather Sr. and built by H. McIntosh, the aqueduct has a span of 165 feet (50 m), a width of 24 feet (7.3 m) and a depth of 8.5 feet (2.6 m). It is still in use today, though an additional wider concrete aqueduct was constructed alongside in 1981 and the bridge was then renovated. Stanley Ferry is also the place where the Tom Pudding tub boats were loaded with coal from local collieries between 1863 and 1985 and transported down to Goole in long trains by canal. The site is one of three historic fords crossing the River Calder near Wakefield. Because the water was deepened for navigation a ferry became necessary, but was replaced by the first bridge in 1879. Like many through arch bridges, the design of the bridge is often confused with the tied-arch bridge; many bridges have both characteristics. However in this case the bridge is of cast iron, which would be weak in tension. Although the aqueduct channel is in the right position to act in tying the arch, it would have no strength in this direction. At Stanley Ferry, the outward sideways thrust of the arch is retained by its abutments, as for the simple arch bridge.

Bottom Boat is a village in the Wakefield district of West Yorkshire. In the 2011 United Kingdom census, its population was 1,169, and it was included as part of the West Yorkshire Built-up Area, which had a total population of 1,777,934.Before the enactment of the 1972 Local Government Act, it was part of the Stanley Urban District. Most of the current houses in Bottom Boat were built for workers at the Newmarket Silkstone Colliery. The colliery closed on 29 September 1983, which was only a few months before the start of a year-long strike in the British mining industry. This closure was not opposed by the NUM as it had been agreed under the previous Labour Government's "Plan for Coal" on the condition that the workforce could transfer to the new Selby Coalfield.

Outwood is a district to the north of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England. The district is centred on the A61 Leeds Road south of Lofthouse. It grew up as a pit village and was only a small settlement until the 1970s, when construction of new houses caused it to grow and merge with neighbouring settlements such as Wrenthorpe and Stanley. In 2001, it had a population of 7,623.

The A642 is an A-road in West Yorkshire, England which runs from Huddersfield to the A64 near Leeds. It partly follows the route of a historic turnpike road, which is evidenced by surviving toll houses. The road begins at Waterloo 2 miles (3 km) east of the town centre at the junction with A629 and continues via Lepton to Grange Moor where the A637 branches off. From there it passes through Middlestown and Horbury (on the Horbury bypass) and leads to the junction with A638 west of Wakefield City Centre. In Wakefield it follows the route of A638 and A61, branching off the latter north of the city centre and continuing via Stanley, Junction 30 of the M62 Motorway, Oulton, Swillington, and Garforth before meeting the M1 Motorway at Junction 47, where also A656 joins. North of the latter, the road continues as B1217. It is joined by B6433 in Lepton and B6118 in Grange Moor, crosses B6117 in Horbury Bridge, A639 in Oulton, B6475 in Lupset, and A61 in Wakefield City Centre. Branches of B6128 join west and east of Horbury. East of Horbury it passes under the M1 motorway without a junction. The new Wakefield Eastern Relief Road, opened in 2017, connects to the A642 in Stanley.

Lofthouse is a village between the cities of Wakefield and Leeds in West Yorkshire, England. The village falls within the Ardsley and Robin Hood ward of the City of Leeds Council. It is in the City of Leeds metropolitan borough but with a Wakefield postal address (WF3). It is mentioned as Locthuse, also as Loftose in the 1086 Domesday Book.Lofthouse has good road connections to its nearby boroughs as well as to the rest of Northern England. It can be found on the main A61 Leeds-Wakefield road and off junction 29 of the M62 and junction 42 of the M1, known locally as the Lofthouse interchange. Lofthouse Gate and Outwood are neighbouring villages on the A61 towards Wakefield and are in the Wakefield Metropolitan Area. Towards Leeds there is the village of Robin Hood. There are two churches, Christ Church (Church of England) and Lofthouse Methodist Church, a doctor's surgery and the Rodillian Academy. Lofthouse Children's Centre is located in the Rodillian Academy grounds. The old co-operative building, just off the main A61 on Co-operative Street, is now occupied by Chill Beauty. Lofthouse is often erroneously believed to be the scene of the Lofthouse Colliery disaster, which took place in 1973. The disaster actually took place beneath a field near the village of Kirkhamgate, where a new coalface was being worked.

Outwood Academy City Fields, formerly Wakefield City Academy, is a mixed secondary school with academy status, located in Wakefield, England. It has over 600 pupils ages 11 to 16 on roll, and its current headteacher is Michelle Colledge-Smith.
