The Gateway Mall in St. Louis, Missouri is an open green space running linearly, one block wide, from the Gateway Arch at Memorial Drive to Union Station at 20th Street. Located in the city's downtown, it runs between Market Street and Chestnut Street. In the early 21st century, there are plans to remodel areas of the mall for additional uses and to make it more attractive to visitors. City planners hope to incorporate the many downtown locations into one mall area.

909 Chestnut (formerly One SBC Center, One Bell Center, and One AT&T Center) is a 44-story building in downtown St. Louis, Missouri at 909 Chestnut Street on the Gateway Mall. It is Missouri's largest building by area with 1,400,000 square feet (130,000 m2). The building is currently vacant, and is currently planned to be redeveloped into a residential building.The building was built to replace the Southwestern Bell Building as the Southwestern Bell world headquarters. However, in a series of mergers the headquarters moved to San Antonio, Texas and was later renamed AT&T. In 2006 Inland American Real Estate Trust bought the building for $205 million. AT&T then signed a 10-year lease to be the sole tenant.When AT&T announced, in 2013, that they would be vacating the building in 12 months and that they would be not be renewing the lease when it expired in 2017, the number of employees in that building had fallen from a high of 4,800 to 2,000 through layoffs, outsourcing and remote work.The building was ultimately foreclosed by US Bank after AT&T's departure and, on April 25, 2022, the building was sold for $4.05 million to SomeraRoad, a New York based developer.

The Bank of America Plaza is a skyscraper located in Downtown St. Louis, Missouri. Formerly Boatmen's Bancshares of St. Louis and First National Bank, the tower is 384 ft (117m) tall and has 31 floors. Built in 1982 by Fruin-Colnon Construction, it comprises 750,000 square feet (70,000 m2), and has a view of the downtown skyline. It is the tenth tallest office building in Downtown St. Louis.The building won the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) “Building of the Year” awards for the years 1996 through 1999. Ralcorp and subsidiary Post Foods have their headquarters in the building. In 2003, Bank of America was the largest tenant in the building and had nearly 500,000 square feet (46,000 m2) of space. During that year PricewaterhouseCoopers leased space in the Bank of America Plaza, which was 96% occupied.

The Maryland Hotel, now known as the Mark Twain Hotel, is a historic hotel in downtown St. Louis, Missouri. The hotel was built in 1907 and designed by St. Louis architect Albert B. Groves. The Classical Revival building uses terra cotta decorations extensively; in particular, the second story is covered entirely in terra cotta, and other decorative terra cotta panels feature fruit and flowers.The Maryland Hotel opened as a luxury hotel, but it eventually became a flophouse. In the 1990s, the hotel was renovated and became the Mark Twain Hotel; the new hotel serves low-income people, particularly those with criminal records.The hotel was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 16, 1996. At the time of its listing, it was one of only seven historic hotels in downtown St. Louis; five of the others (Hotel Statler, Lennox Hotel, Majestic Hotel, Mayfair Hotel, and Union Station Terminal Hotel) were previously listed on the National Register, and the last, Hotel Jefferson, was added in 2003.

700 Market is a six-story office building located at 700 Market Street in downtown St. Louis, Missouri, United States. Spire, Inc. is the sole tenant of the building, using it for its corporate headquarters. The building was previously the General American Life Insurance Company National Headquarters, located on 706 Market St., and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is LEED Gold Certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The Wainwright Building (also known as the Wainwright State Office Building) is a 10-story, 41 m (135 ft) terra cotta office building at 709 Chestnut Street in downtown St. Louis, Missouri. The Wainwright Building is considered to be one of the first aesthetically fully expressed early skyscrapers. It was designed by Dankmar Adler and Louis Sullivan and built between 1890 and 1891. It was named for local brewer, building contractor, and financier Ellis Wainwright.The building, listed as a landmark both locally and nationally, is described as "a highly influential prototype of the modern office building" by the National Register of Historic Places. Architect Frank Lloyd Wright called the Wainwright Building "the very first human expression of a tall steel office-building as Architecture."The building is currently owned by the State of Missouri and houses state offices.In May 2013 it was listed by an episode of the PBS series 10 That Changed America as one of "10 Buildings That Changed America" because it was "the first skyscraper that truly looked the part" with Sullivan being dubbed the "Father of Skyscrapers."

The Southwestern Bell Building is a 28-story, 121.0 m (397.0 ft) skyscraper constructed to be the headquarters of Southwestern Bell Telephone in downtown St. Louis, Missouri. At the time of its construction it was Missouri's tallest building. The building, which was one of the first in St. Louis to use setbacks, has 17 individual roofs.Its architect was Mauran, Russell & Crowell, who also designed the Federal Reserve Bank of St Louis and the Railway Exchange Building (St. Louis). I.R. Timlin, Southwestern Bell's company architect, was associate architect on the project.

The Bell Telephone Building, located at 920 Olive Street in downtown St. Louis, Missouri, was built in 1889 for the purposes of housing the switchboard and local headquarters of the Bell Telephone Company. The building served as the main telephone exchange for St. Louis from its construction until 1926, and it is the oldest extant telephone building in St. Louis (and possibly was the first building constructed for the telephone industry in St. Louis).

8th & Pine is a St. Louis MetroLink subway station. It is one of three stations to have an escalator system, with the other two being Convention Center and Lambert Airport Terminal 1. This station is located in downtown St. Louis and primarily serves the Central Business District, its residents, and commuters. There is a MetroStore located above the station at 801 Pine Street where tickets, passes and Metro branded gear can be purchased.The station was built within the historic St. Louis Freight Tunnel that originally opened in 1874. Built to carry train traffic between the Eads Bridge and the Mill Creek Valley rail yards, it saw its last train (Amtrak) in 1974. Renovation of the tunnels began in 1991 to prepare them for the opening of MetroLink in 1993.On January 20, 2023, Metro Transit announced that 8th & Pine would undergo a full rehabilitation. These improvements include updating elevator, escalator and stair access, lighting upgrades, improved signage and way-finding, a deep cleaning, and general infrastructure upgrades like new walls and flooring.

The Frisco Building is a historic office building in downtown St. Louis, Missouri. The building was built in 1903-04 as the headquarters for the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway, which was also known as the Frisco. The architecture firm Eames and Young designed the building as well as its 1905-06 addition; the building's subtle ornamentation and its pier and spandrel system were both important developments in skyscraper design. The Frisco occupied the building for almost eighty years after its opening, and in that time played an important role in Missouri's economic development through railroad construction.Its expansion forced the Kieselhorst Piano Co., a leading vendor of pianos in the city, to move one block east on Olive Street.The Frisco Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 29, 1983.

Downtown St. Louis is the central business district of St. Louis, Missouri, the hub of tourism and entertainment, and the anchor of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The downtown is bounded by Cole Street to the north, the river front to the east, Chouteau Avenue to the south, and Tucker Boulevard to the west. (If the neighborhood defined by the city as Downtown West, St. Louis is included, however, then it extends further west to Jefferson Avenue.) The downtown is the site of many corporate headquarters, including Stifel Financial Corp., HOK, Spire Inc, and a host of other companies.

The lynching of Francis McIntosh was the killing of a free man of color, a boatman, by a white mob after he was arrested in St. Louis, Missouri, on April 28, 1836. He had fatally stabbed one policeman and injured a second.
