Kansas City Club

The Library District is an officially designated neighborhood in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri, United States, roughly bounded by 9th and 11th Streets on the north and south and Main Street and Broadway on the east and west. The District contains a sub-district named the West Ninth Street/Baltimore Avenue Historic District listed on the National Register and which includes several buildings individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It also contains other notable structures not listed on the National Register.

The Kansas City Public Library is a public system headquartered in the Central Library in Kansas City, Missouri. The system operates its Central Library and neighborhood branches located in Kansas City, Independence, and Sugar Creek. Founded on December 5, 1873, it is the oldest and third largest public library system in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Its special collections, housed in the Central Library's Missouri Valley Room, has a collection of Kansas City local history, including original and published materials, news articles, post cards, photographs, maps, and city directories dating from the community's earliest history. The Library's Ramos Collection includes books, pamphlets, journal articles, and other materials relating to African-American history and culture.

The Kansas City Southern Railway Building in Kansas City, Missouri is a building from 1914. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

The Old New England Building in the Library District of Downtown Kansas City, Missouri, located at 112 West 9th Street, was built in 1886 as the offices of the New England Safe Deposit and Trust Company. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The New York Life Building is a 12-story, 54.86 m (180.0 ft) high-rise in the Library District of downtown Kansas City, Missouri. The brick and brownstone tower, which was completed in 1890, generally is regarded as Kansas City's first skyscraper and was the first building in the city equipped with elevators. It was commissioned by the New York Life Insurance Company, which also used the same design for the Omaha National Bank Building in Omaha that was completed in 1889. Several buildings around the world share its name. A centerpiece of the Library District and Baltimore Avenue Historic District, the building is located amid historic structures such as the Kansas City Club and the Central Library.

The Land Bank Building in Kansas City, Missouri is a building from 1923. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.It was designed by architects Keene & Simpson.It is Italian Renaissance in style.

The Graphic Arts Building in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, USA, is an eight-story, 58 unit, reinforced concrete building. Following an approval in 2005 for redevelopment, it currently houses the Graphic Arts Lofts (formerly Park University). The building was built in 1915 as a headquarters for commercial printing and related trades.The building's architect, Samuel B. Tarbet, also built other local commercial buildings such as the Wheeling Corrugating Company Building, the Goodenow Textiles Company Building, Kansas City Athenaeum, J. D. Bowerstock Theater (now known as Liberty Hall) and Olathe City Hall. Additionally, he built residences for H. F. Hill, C.F. Myers and Dr. Guffey. The first floor houses the leasing office for Old Town Lofts buildings. In 2005, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Commerce Tower is a 30-story skyscraper located in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri, USA. Constructed in 1965, it is the ninth-tallest habitable structure in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area, and since the completion of the City Hall, it was the first locally designed Skyscraper in Kansas City. The building was designed by architects Keene & Simpson & Murphy, who moved their offices into the building after it was completed. The facade is constructed of pre-cast stone and glass, (known as a "curtain-wall") creating a unique look, especially for its time. When it opened, its top two floors were home to the Top of the Tower restaurant, which served five varieties of ethnic cuisine in separate dining areas decorated to match the food served there. The last 15-foot beam was signed by 18,000 people including Harry S Truman. Commerce Tower is no longer occupied by its namesake, Commerce Bancshares. Commerce Bank moved its headquarters to 1000 Walnut Street in 1985. It is also home to the downtown campus of Park University. The building is expected to change ownership in 2013 and be redeveloped into a $90 million mix of office, residential, and educational uses—due, in part, to construction of the KC Streetcar right outside the building's main entrance.

Commerce Trust Building is a 15-story tower built for Kansas City Missouri's biggest bank Commerce Bancshares in 1907 and was Kansas City's second skyscraper, following the New York Life building. It has facade of red granite and white terra cotta tiles and was Missouri's tallest building when it opened. Formerly on the site was the home of the Kansas City Journal which in turn was taken over by Commerce. Harry Truman worked in the predecessor building. Its architect Jarvis Hunt also designed Union Station and the headquarters of the Kansas City Star. The construction company was the George A. Fuller Company which built the Flatiron Building in the New York City and as a company continues to build major skyscrapers around the world. In 1965 Commerce built a larger adjoining building Commerce Tower but has continued to use the original building. In 2004 Commerce Bancshares conducted a $48 million renovation of the building expanding its square footage to 300,000 square feet (28,000 m2) by filling in the light court between the fourth and 15th floors.Part of the renovation also included illuminating the lobby's ornate glass ceiling to replicate natural sunlight.

The Chambers Building in Kansas City, Missouri was built in 1915 and 1923. It was designed in Early Commercial style by architect Charles A. Smith. Smith, Rae and Lovitt is also associated with the building.It has been marketed as Chambers Lofts. A renovation received low-income housing tax credits. The building was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2001.It is a 12-story building built of structural steel with a brick and terra cotta exterior. It was built in two phases: 1915 construction of first five stories, and 1923 addition of top seven stories.

The Savoy Hotel and Grill was a historic hotel and restaurant in Kansas City, Missouri. The Savoy Hotel was the oldest continuously operating hotel in the United States west of the Mississippi River until it closed in 2016 to undergo extensive renovation by 21c Museum Hotels and reopened in 2018. In 1974 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as "Savoy Hotel and Grill". It is now called "21c Museum Hotel Kansas City".

Lightwell Building (formerly City Center Square) is a skyscraper in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri, built by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, in the Spring of 1977. It occupies the entire block of 11th Street to 12th Street, and from Main Street to Baltimore Street. Its tower is 30 stories tall, constructed with a reinforced concrete structure evident by the look of the exterior. It is the tenth-tallest habitable structure in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area, and the fifteenth-tallest habitable structure in Missouri at 404 feet (123 m).In 2003, the property was appraised at $38 million when Citigroup underwrote a $29 million loan. Net operating income was $3.1 million. As the real estate market rose, the property was re-appraised in February 2005 for $60 million and Ally Financial (formerly GMAC) underwrote a $44 million 10-year loan. This loan went delinquent in April 2010. An August 2010 appraisal estimated property value at $38 million, below the $41 million remaining principal. City Center Square was renamed to the Lightwell Building in 2019.
