St Mary's Church, Hartwell

Hartwell House is a country house in the parish of Hartwell in Buckinghamshire, Southern England. The house is owned by the Ernest Cook Trust, has been a Historic House Hotel since 1989, and in 2008 was leased to the National Trust. The Grade I listed house is Jacobean with a Georgian front and Rococo interiors, set in a picturesque landscaped park, and is most famous as the home of exiled French king Louis XVIII in the early 19th century.

Hartwell is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Stone with Bishopstone and Hartwell, in central Buckinghamshire, England. It is to the south of Aylesbury, by the village of Stone. In 1961 the civil parish had a population of 100.The village name is Anglo Saxon in origin, and means "spring frequented by deer". In the Domesday Book of 1086 it was recorded as Herdewelle.The ruined Hartwell Church was designed by the architect Henry Keene and completed in 1756. It is one of the most important early Gothic revival churches in England and is Grade II* listed. It has an octagonal centre with twin towers. In the north and south bays are rose windows, while other windows are represented as ogee arches. In the clerestory are quatrefoil windows. Inside, the church once had a plaster fan vault but this has now fallen in, and the church's windows are boarded. Today the building appears more as a garden folly, than a former place of worship. Attached to the estate is the former hamlet of Lower Hartwell.

Bugle Quarry is a 0.08-hectare (0.20-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Hartwell in Buckinghamshire. The local planning authority is Aylesbury Vale District Council. It has two entries in the Geological Conservation Review of the Joint Nature Conservation Committee.The site has been studied by geologists for over 150 years. In 1958 it was filled by the spoil from road improvements, but in the following year a section was re-exposed by geologists from Queen Mary College, London. It was again re-opened in 1984, but it is in an unsafe state and is protected by a fence.The site spans the Tithonian stage (c. 152-145 million years ago) in the late Jurassic, and the Berriasian (c. 145-139 million years ago) in the early Cretaceous. It was formerly the type section for the Portland (Tithonian) and Purbeck (Berriasian) Groups in the Aylesbury area; it has yielded an important sequence of ostracod fauna which spans the junction between the two stages, and the environmental change from land to sea. A number of dinosaur teeth have been found, including Pelorosaurus teeth which are the only sauropod teeth of Tithonian age in Europe. Teeth found of the carnosaur Megalosaurus are the only ones found of the same period in Britain.The site is in the grounds of Hartwell Riding Stables with no public access.

The A418 road is a main trunk road in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, England. It begins at a roundabout with the A4146 just north of Ascott, near Leighton Buzzard. It then runs south as a single carriageway through Wing to Aylesbury. This stretch is proposed for a dual carriageway bypass. After diving through Aylesbury the road runs past Aylesbury College before heading out into Stone. From there it runs past Haddenham to the M40 near Thame. The road has been rerouted in two locations so that it no longer runs through Hulcott and Haddenham.

Sedrup (formerly Southwarp or Southcote) is a hamlet in Buckinghamshire, England. It is located south west of the town of Aylesbury, close to the villages of Stone, Bishopstone and Hartwell which also provide the name of the civil parish within which Sedrup lies. Most of the hamlet is within the boundaries of the Sedrup Conservation Area.Sedrup contains 5 grade II listed structures. 4 of which are cottage and one a house.

Fairford Leys is a housing development in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England, designed in the urban village style, with the street and block layout making it more friendly to pedestrians and cyclists. The three main developers of the development were bound by a design code to ensure architectural cohesion and this is maintained through covenants on the deeds of each property.

Stone is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Stone with Bishopstone and Hartwell, in Buckinghamshire, England. It is located southwest of the town of Aylesbury, on the A418 road that links Aylesbury to Thame. Stone with Bishopstone and Hartwell is a civil parish within Buckinghamshire district and also incorporates the nearby settlements of Bishopstone and Hartwell. The architect Clough Williams-Ellis designed the village hall in 1910. The original dedication stone with his name on is on the south eastern corner of the building.

Haydon Hill is part of the town of Aylesbury, England. The neighbourhood is to the north of Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire. It occupies the area to the north of the town and to the west of the A41, Bicester Road. The estate was built during the 1970s and 1980s as part of a major housing expansion. Although mostly housing, Haydon Hill has a community centre on Dickens Way. It is a compact venue for smaller functions having a capacity for 100 people dancing and 50 people if seated. It has a small kitchen and access for people with disabilities.

Prebendal Farm is a housing estate in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England. It is located to the south of the town, bordered by the Oxford Road, the railway and the Bearbrook (a minor stream that rises in Bedgrove and is a tributary of the River Thame). Prebendal Farm was originally a farm on the outskirts of the old town of Aylesbury, and was one of the primary locations where the Aylesbury duck industry was developed. The owner at that time was John Kersley Fowler who was the proposer of Benjamin Disraeli for Member of Parliament for Buckinghamshire.The new housing estate was built in the 1970s and the major road through the estate was named after J. K. Fowler (above). Since then the estate has seen a period of decline to the extent that it is now recognised as one of the most relatively deprived areas of the district. This led to the Coldharbour ward (of which Prebendal Farm is a part) being the pilot Neighbourhood Policing initiative for the Thames Valley Police area and has subsequently led to the formation of a Residents' Group and youth club on the estate.

The Thame Valley Viaduct is a viaduct which will carry the High Speed 2 railway line in the United Kingdom. It traverses the River Thame near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. As early as February 2020, specific consultancies regarding the viaduct have been conducted. A competitive tender for its construction was undertaken during mid-2021. During April 2022, the final design for the viaduct was revealed. It is to be constructed by a joint venture of Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction and BAM Nuttall, collectively called EKFB. The viaduct shall be largely pre-fabricated and assembled onsite; this approach is claimed to save time and money, while also aiming to reduce any impact upon the local community. Measures to minimise and mitigate the auditory and visual presence of the structure have been incorporated into the design. Once completed, the viaduct will have a length of 880 metres (2,890 feet) across its evenly-spaced 36 spans, while only having a height of 3 m (9.8 ft). It is intended to be an aesthetically pleasing structure, making use of modern construction techniques and innovations from international high speed railway projects.

Stone SSSI is a 0.12-hectare (0.30-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Stone in Buckinghamshire. It is listed by the Joint Nature Conservation Committee as a Geological Conservation Review site.This site has undated sands of Lower Cretaceous Wealden deposits. The sand is of northern origin, probably recycled through the Portland Beds, and includes Carboniferous chert. The site is important for its bearing on the palaeogeography of the Wealden and the preceding Purbeck deposits.The pit has been filled in, and it is on private land with no public access.
