Fossum Bridge

Smaalenene bridge, and the new part of the highway between Oslo and Stockholm was opened November 23, 2010 by the Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg. The bridge is 315 meters long and crosses the longest river in Norway, Glomma. The main span is 185 meters and the tower is 88 meter high. The buildingprosess was started in 2007. The bridge has a tower close 90 meters high and is founded on a 24 meter high column rising from the bottom of River Glomma. The German Bilfinger Berger has carried out the construction works on behalf of the Norwegian state road authorities. The bridge is a part of the larger new E18 motor way project, connecting Oslo and Stockholm. The Smaalenene Bridge has become a new landmark for the region. The cable-stayed bridge is 315m long in total and spans the River Glomma as part of the new E18 link 80 km southeast of Oslo. It has a river clearance of 25m to the soffit of the deck and carries four lanes of traffic. The cable-stayed section consists of two spans with a single tower; the main span is 185m long and the back span has a length of 142.5m. A solid counterbalance abutment on the back span end was built to compensate the corresponding scope of works performed imbalance in dead load. A 45m-long approach span connects the cable-stayed part to the west abutment. The cable-stayed deck is supported by a single pylon via a central plane of 14 cables on each side of the tower. At deck level, the cables are anchored at 7m centers into a central beam that transfers the horizontal component of the stay’s force into the concrete deck through shear studs. The deck is 25m wide and is designed to carry two traffic lanes in each direction, separated by a 4.4mwide central reservation. Twenty-eight stay cables with individually galvanised, waxed and sheathed strands varying in size from 6-43 to 6-85 and in length from 40m to 126m. Forming the stay-cable bundle involved installing each individual strand one at a time and encapsulating them using an external HDPE pipe with double helical ribs.

Romsåsen, in Askim in Indre Østfold in Østfold county, Norway, is a hill that has an old nickel mine and minerals. It is now protected by law.

Kykkelsrud is a village in Askim municipality, Norway. Located a few kilometres west of the town Askim, it is a part of the urban area of the same name, which has a population of 12,570. Kykkelsrud, located on the east bank of the Glomma river, has a power plant which harnesses the Kykkelsrud waterfall. Immediately north of the village is the four-lane Smaalenene Bridge, opened in 2010 and carrying the European Route E18 over the Glomma.

Langnes is a village in Indre Østfold municipality in Østfold, Norway. The town is most known for the historically important Battle of Langnes which occurred during the events of 1814.

Langnes Station (Norwegian: Langnes holdeplass) was a railway station located at Langnes in Askim, Norway. Situated on the Eastern Østfold Line, it was 49.61 kilometers (30.83 mi) from Oslo Central Station (Oslo S). Established as a flag stop in 1928, it saw limited traffic, with only 28 daily boarding and disembarking passengers in 2008. The station was moved 300 meters (980 ft) eastwards in 1989. It consisted of a simple side platform and a shed. The station closed on 9 November 2012.

Spydeberg was a municipality in former Østfold county, Norway, until December 31. 2019. At January 1. 2020 it became a part of the new and greater municipality named Indre Østfold Kommune after the region, together with Askim and Trøgstad and Eidsberg and Hobøl kommuner (municipalities). The administrative centre of the Spydeberg municipality was the village of Spydeberg. Spydeberg Kommune (municipality) was divided into the parishes of Spydeberg, Heli, and Hovin and was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The village of Spydeberg has approximately 5,500 inhabitants. It is located 45 kilometres (28 mi) southeast of Oslo and is easily reached by both car and bus and train. At the most there used to be 16 daily buses to Oslo (the capital of Norway), and about 21 train departures. Like the rest of the Indre Østfold region, many of the citizens of Spydeberg commute daily to Oslo for work.

Spydeberg Station (Norwegian: Spydeberg stasjon) is located in Spydeberg, Norway on the Østfold Line. The railway station is served by the Oslo Commuter Rail line L22 from Oslo Central Station. The station was opened in 1882.

Knapstad is a village in the municipality of Hobøl, Norway. Its population (2005) is 1,133, of which 78 people live within the border of the neighboring municipality Spydeberg.

Solbergfoss Hydroelectric Power Station (Norwegian: Solbergfoss kraftverk) is a run-of-the-river hydroelectric power station on the Glomma, in Indre Østfold municipality, Østfold county, Norway. Construction of the power station began in 1913. It was operational in 1924. Solbergfoss is owned by E-CO Energi (64,4%) and Statkraft (35,6%).

Askim Station (Norwegian: Askim stasjon) is located at Askim, Norway on the Eastern Østfold Line. The railway station is served by the Oslo Commuter Rail line L22 from Oslo Central Station. The station was opened with the eastern line of Østfold Line in 1882.

Askim Upper Secondary School (Norwegian: Askim Videregående Skole) is an Upper Secondary School situated in the outskirts of the municipality of Askim. It was originally two different schools; Hov Upper Secondary School (general studies) and Ask Upper secondary School (vocational training), but they merged to Askim Upper Secondary School for practical reasons. It is a public school, both run and owned by the county of Viken. The school is most known nationally, and to a small extent internationally, for its many successful 'youth enterprises'. The youth enterprise is a part of one of the schools many branches of study. The second grade students of this branch create their own small-time company and try to survive in the market selling a service or a product they have created. The school is also an 'Environmental Lighthouse', meaning it makes an effort in sorting garbage, reducing the amount of waste resources and reducing the schools energy consumption.

Østfoldbadet is a water park located in Askim, Norway. The park was officially opened on December 16, 2000. Construction commenced on August 31, 1999 and was completed in December 2000.
