Building was one of many "commercial vernacular brick buildings with classical revival details" that were built during a major building boom, with high quality brickwork. It was built in 1904 by the Northwestern Telephone Exchange Company, which later became Northwestern Bell. This replaced a previous exchange that was located on the fourth floor of an office building, which had some accessibility problems. A 1901 author pointed out that the cable ran into the office from a nearby pole and was unsightly, and that the wiring inside the building was not very orderly either. The building was rather crowded. The company was in the process of buying a lot for the new exchange building.: 37 

City Center Mall was a shopping mall located in downtown Grand Forks, North Dakota that was constructed by closing off a block of Third Street. Construction was done in 1978 by building a roof over the former street and walls, closing off the block. Fountains were built where the street was located.Despite the mall's attempt to attract shoppers to the downtown area, it did not improve business. This trend continued until the mall was destroyed in the flood of 1997. The mall was not rebuilt and Third Street was reopened to traffic.

The Empire Arts Center is a non-profit, multi-purpose arts facility located in downtown Grand Forks, North Dakota United States. Renovated in 1998 due to damage from the 1997 Red River flood, the Empire is a circa 1919 movie house renovated into a multi-use theater and gallery facility. The Empire produces an annual theater season through their in house Empire Theatre Company, in addition to concerts and special events. In addition to their own programming, the Empire hosts a variety of recitals, films, concerts, speakers, meetings, performing arts and community events throughout the year. The arts center is also home to the University of North Dakota Art Collections gallery. The collection includes works by such artists as Andy Warhol, Salvador Dalí and Audrey Flack, and the media includes paintings, sculptures, ceramics, drawings, textiles, jewelry and metalwork. The gallery also hosts changing exhibits of art by regional, national and international artists.

St. John's Block Commercial Exchange is a Richardsonian Romanesque building in Grand Forks, North Dakota, United States. It is a five-story brick and ashlar building, built during 1890–1891. It is smaller than one acre. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1982.It was included in a 1981 study of Downtown Grand Forks historical resources that led to a large number of NRHP listings.

The Dakota Block is a three-story commercial vernacular style building built in 1916. It is within the Downtown Historic District in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The principal facade of the Dakota Block consists of Hebron brick laid in a running bond. It features a single recessed bay delineated by corbelled brick and a stone cornice. The first floor has rusticated corner piers supporting pilaster strips which extend to the top of the building. Topping the front is a stone coping with a raised central parapet holding a name block inscribed "Dakota Block". The rear and sides of the building are constructed of common brick and are devoid of embellishment, save for a cast iron fire escape.

The New Hampshire Apartments in Grand Forks, North Dakota were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. They were built in 1904 at a cost of $26,000 and were significant as a building designed by architect Joseph Bell DeRemer. The apartments were an example of commercial vernacular architecture, and the building was the first in Grand Forks to have a planned second-story-level walkway to another building (the Security Building). When listed on the National Register, the apartment complex was one of few remaining downtown structures designed by DeRemer with classical details. It was built by the Dinnie Brothers, a construction firm that was established in 1881 and was at one time responsible for the building of more than 60 percent of the commercial buildings in Grand Forks.A historical marker indicates that the building was destroyed in the 1997 Red River flood and fire. It was officially delisted from the National Register in 2018.
