The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham () is a London borough in East London. It lies around 9 miles (14.4 km) east of Central London. It is an Outer London borough and the south is within the London Riverside section of the Thames Gateway; an area designated as a national priority for urban regeneration. At the 2011 census it had a population of 187,000, the majority of which are within the Becontree estate. The borough's three main towns are Barking, Chadwell Heath and Dagenham. The local authority is the Barking and Dagenham London Borough Council. Barking and Dagenham was one of six London boroughs to host the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Mayesbrook Park is a 43 hectare public park in Dagenham in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. It is owned and managed by the borough council. The southern end, which is mainly a large lake, is a Local Nature Reserve. The area covered by the park was once part of the historic Manor of Jenkins, seat of the Fanshawe family. For reasons which remain obscure, the park is sometimes nicknamed "Matchstick Island".The park, which was opened in 1934, was created to meet the need for open space for the London County Council's Becontree Housing Estate. The park has a car park, a children's play area, football pitches, a cricket pitch and pavilion, an athletic track, tennis courts, basketball court, and lakes. The Mayesbrook Park project has used green infrastructure engineering to address flood water management needs.The southern end has two large lakes which are rich in wildlife, newly planted woodland and rough grassland. The Mayes Brook runs along the western edge. There is access from Lodge Avenue. Mayesbrook is also a ward of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. The population of the ward at the 2011 census was 10,342.

Goodmayes is a district of Ilford in the London Borough of Redbridge, England. It is situated eleven miles north-east of Charing Cross, and forms part of both the Romford and Ilford post towns. Historically part of Essex, it was part of the Municipal Borough of Ilford until 1965 when it was incorporated into Greater London.

Becontree is an electoral ward in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. It returns councillors to Barking and Dagenham London Borough Council. The ward was created on 1 April 1994 from territory that had previously formed part of the Goodmayes ward in the London Borough of Redbridge. The ward was first used in the 1994 elections.

Barking Abbey School is a secondary school and specialist sports and humanities college located in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. It serves students from the London Boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge, and Newham. Years 7 to 11 (ages 11 – 16) are at the Longbridge Road site and years 7 to 13 (ages 11 – 18) at the Sandringham Road site. Barking Abbey also has a Sixth Form of over 400 students which is at the Sandringham Road site. A Level and BTEC courses are available to 16 - 18 year-olds in the Sixth Form. Both sites are situated to the west of Mayesbrook Park and to the north of Upney Underground station.

Goodmayes railway station is on the Great Eastern Main Line serving the district of Goodmayes in the London Borough of Redbridge, east London. It is 9 miles 23 chains (14.9 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street and is situated between Seven Kings and Chadwell Heath. Its three-letter station code is GMY, and it is in Travelcard Zone 4. The station was opened in 1901 by the Great Eastern Railway. It is currently managed by Transport for London and is on the Elizabeth line between Shenfield and London Paddington.

Upney is a London Underground station located on Upney Lane in Barking, east London. It is on the District line between Barking station to the west and Becontree station to the east. It is 10.96 kilometres (6.81 mi) along the line from the eastern terminus at Upminster and 23.24 kilometres (14.44 mi) to Earl's Court in central London where the line divides into numerous branches. It is in London fare zone 4. The station was opened in 1932 by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway on the local electrified tracks that were extended to Upminster from Barking.

Mayfield School is a co-educational secondary school and 6th form in Chadwell Heath in the Goodmayes district of the London Borough of Redbridge, in East London, on Pedley Road. Nearby transport includes Chadwell Heath Railway Station and Goodmayes Railway Station.
