HMAS Stirling

Cape Peron is a headland at Rockingham, at the southern end of Cockburn Sound in Western Australia. The cape is locally known as Point Peron, and is noted for its protected beaches, limestone cliffs, reefs and panoramic views. Cape Peron includes the suburb of Peron, and "Point Peron" is the designation of a minor promontory on the south side of the cape's extremity. The feature was named after the French naturalist and zoologist François Péron, who accompanied the expedition of Nicolas Baudin along the western coast of Australia in 1801. A causeway was constructed in 1973 between Cape Peron and Garden Island to carry vehicular traffic between the mainland and the island. Since the island houses HMAS Stirling, a Royal Australian Navy base, access is restricted by the military. The wreck of RMS Orizaba (1886–1905) lies on Five Fathom Bank, 5.5 kilometres (3.4 mi) west of the cape.

The Peron Battery, at Cape Peron, was the southernmost of the Fremantle Fortress coastal defence batteries in Western Australia. Also referred to as K Heavy Battery, it was established in January 1943 and, like the Challenger Battery on near-by Garden Island, it was equipped with two mobile 155 mm guns. Additionally, it also operated two 18-pounder guns which were withdrawn once the Collie Secondary Battery became operational on Garden Island. The duty of the main guns was to cover the southern access to Cockburn Sound while the 18-pounder guns protected the a boom net which spanned between Cape Peron and Garden Island. The main battery was withdrawn again in December 1944 but the observation post and one of the Panama mounts of the Peron Battery are still preserved and accessible. The Peron Battery became Western Australian State Register of Heritage Places listed on 13 October 2019.

Peron is an outer southern suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, and is located within the City of Rockingham. The suburb was gazetted in 1974. It is named for its location at Cape Peron although that land feature and the immediate locality are often called "Point Peron", both locally and in written references, and this has influenced the naming of roads and features in the locality. There is a small promontory on the south west of the Cape, though not its most westerly point, that is named "Point Peron". During World War II, Point Peron hosted the Peron Battery, a coastal defence battery of the Fremantle Fortress.

Seal Island is located near Shoalwater, Western Australia in the Perth region. It is incorporated into the Shoalwater Bay Islands Nature Reserve, and surrounded by the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. In December 2016, a rare birth of a southern elephant seal pup on the island was just the third such event recorded in Western Australia in 20 years and only the tenth in Australia since 1958.

Lake Richmond (Aboriginal Australian name: Naragebup) is a freshwater lake in Rockingham, Western Australia. It is approximately 1,000 m × 600 m (3,300 ft × 2,000 ft), with an area of 40 ha (99 acres), and is 15 m (49 ft) deep in the centre. It is believed to be named after the London borough. It is part of Rockingham Lakes Regional Park.

Shoalwater is an outer southern suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, located within the City of Rockingham. Shoalwater is located within the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park which includes Shoalwater Bay, Warnbro Sound, Cape Peron and several small islands being Penguin island, Seal Island and Shag Rock. The name 'Shoalwater' was used by the original settlers on the basis of the shallow waters in the area.

Rockingham is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located 47 km south-south-west of the city centre. It acts as the primary centre for the City of Rockingham. It has a beachside location at Mangles Bay, the southern extremity of Cockburn Sound. To its north stretches the maritime and resource-industry installations of Kwinana and Henderson. Offshore to the north-west is Australia's largest naval fleet and submarine base, Garden Island, connected to the mainland by an all-weather causeway. To the west and south lies the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park.

The City of Rockingham is a council and local government area, comprising the south coastal suburbs of the Western Australian capital city of Perth.

The Rockingham Hotel is a historic hotel and pub in Rockingham, Western Australia, its origins dating back to 1886, when Rockingham was an important export location for Western Australian timber. The hotel was listed on the Western Australian State Register of Heritage Places in 2008 but de-listed in 2011. It remains on the City of Rockingham heritage list however. In 2023, demolition of the hotel and redevelopment of the site has been proposed and was ultimately approved.

The Rockingham War Memorial is a military memorial in the City of Rockingham, Western Australia, dedicated to what is now the Australian Defence Force.

Penguin Island is a 12.5-hectare (31-acre) island off the coast near Perth, approximately 660 metres (722 yd) from Shoalwater. It was found to be home to a colony of 120 little penguins in 2024. Since 2007, the island has experienced a 92 percent decline in penguin numbers, from a peak of 1,600 that year. The waters surrounding the island make up the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. Additionally, the island is also protected by the Penguin Island Conservation Park, which was established in 1918 and has a size of 11 hectares (27 acres). The island is closed to the public during winter, from June to September.

Rockingham Naval Memorial Park is a military memorial in the City of Rockingham, Western Australia, dedicated to the Royal Australian Navy. It contains a number of commemorative plaques, a 110 mm (4.5 in) gun turret from HMAS Derwent and a submarine fin from HMAS Orion. The memorial was dedicated on 24 January 1996 by the mayor of the City Of Rockingham, F. W. Gardiner. The project was jointly-funded by the City of Rockingham, the Australian federal government, the Western Australian state government and the Naval Association of Australia.Apart from the Rockingham Naval Memorial Park, there are two other war memorials in Rockingham, the Rockingham War Memorial and a commemoration of the Z Special Unit, supplemented by a collection of plaques for individual vessels mounted on the Palm Beach Jetty.
