1986 LPGA Championship

The 1980 LPGA Championship was the 26th LPGA Championship, played June 5–8 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, a suburb northeast of Cincinnati. Sally Little won the first of her two major titles, three strokes ahead of runner-up Jane Blalock.

The 1983 LPGA Championship was the 29th LPGA Championship, played June 9–12 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, a suburb northeast of Cincinnati. Seven strokes back after the third round, Patty Sheehan shot a 66 (−6) to win the first of her six major titles, two strokes ahead of runner-up Sandra Haynie, the 54-hole leader.

The 1984 LPGA Championship was the 30th LPGA Championship, played May 31 to June 3 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, a suburb northeast of Cincinnati. Defending champion Patty Sheehan shot 131 (−13) on the weekend to win the second of her three LPGA Championships, ten strokes ahead of runners-up Pat Bradley and Beth Daniel.

The 1989 LPGA Championship was held May 30 to June 2 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, a suburb northeast of Cincinnati. Played on the Grizzly Course, this was the 35th edition of the LPGA Championship. Nancy Lopez shot a final round 66 (−6) for 274 (−14), three strokes ahead of runner-up Ayako Okamoto, the third round leader. It was the last of three major titles for Lopez; all came on the Grizzly Course at the LPGA Championship.It was the also the last LPGA Championship at Kings Island, which had hosted twelve consecutive championships since 1978. The Kroger Senior Classic on the Senior PGA Tour replaced it in 1990.

The 1988 LPGA Championship was held May 19–22 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, a suburb northeast of Cincinnati. Played on the Grizzly Course, this was the 34th edition of the LPGA Championship. Sherri Turner birdied the final two holes for a final round 67 and won her only major championship, one stroke ahead of runner-up Amy Alcott. Turner began the round six strokes behind Alcott, the 54-hole leader, in a tie for tenth place. It was the first of her three LPGA Tour wins.

The 1981 LPGA Championship was the 27th LPGA Championship, played June 11–14 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, a suburb northeast of Cincinnati. Donna Caponi sank a fifteen-foot (4.5 m) birdie putt on the final green to win her second LPGA Championship, a stroke ahead of runners-up Jerilyn Britz and Pat Meyers. It was Caponi's fourth and final major title.

The 1978 LPGA Championship was the 24th LPGA Championship, held June 8–11 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, a suburb northeast of Cincinnati. Nancy Lopez, a 21-year-old tour rookie, won the first of her three major titles, all at the LPGA Championship at Kings Island. She finished at 275 (−13), six strokes ahead of runner-up Amy Alcott. It was the sixth tour win for Lopez and her fourth consecutive in 1978, and she won the following week to run the streak to five.This was the first of twelve consecutive LPGA Championships at Kings Island; the last one in 1989 was also won by Lopez.

The 1987 LPGA Championship was held May 21–24 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, a suburb northeast of Cincinnati. Played on the Grizzly Course, this was the 33rd edition of the LPGA Championship. Jane Geddes won her second major championship, a stroke ahead of runner-up Betsy King.

The 1982 LPGA Championship was the 28th LPGA Championship, played June 10–13 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, a suburb northeast of Cincinnati. Jan Stephenson led wire-to-wire to win the second of her three major titles, two strokes ahead of JoAnne Carner. She entered the final round with a two-stroke lead over Beth Daniel.

The 1979 LPGA Championship was the 25th LPGA Championship, played June 7–10 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Center at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, a suburb northeast of Cincinnati. Donna Caponi Young won the first of her two LPGA Championships, three strokes ahead of runner-up Jerilyn Britz. It was the third of her four major titles; her previous major win was nine years earlier.

Played on the Grizzly Course, this was the 31st edition of the LPGA Championship. Nancy Lopez won the second of her three major titles, all at the LPGA Championship. She led wire-to-wire and finished with a final round 65 (−7) for 273 (−15), eight strokes ahead of runner-up Alice Miller. It was her second consecutive victory of the 1985 season. Lopez opened with a first round 65, despite being assessed a two-stroke penalty for slow play. She won her third major on the same course in 1989.

The Lindner Family Tennis Center is a tennis facility in Mason, Ohio. It is the home of the Western & Southern Open and is owned by Tennis for Charity, Inc. The grounds include four permanent tennis stadia (Center Court, Grandstand Court, Court 3 and Court 10), distinguishing the center as the only world tennis venue, apart from the four Grand Slam venues, with more than two permanent stadia. Center Court, built in 1981 and expanded many times since, has a capacity of 11,400. Grandstand Court, built in 1995, has a capacity of 5,000. Court 3, built in 2010, seats 4,000. Court 10, built in 1997 and originally named Court 3, has a capacity of 2,000. Its name, The Lindner Family Tennis Center, pays tribute to the family of a former tournament sponsor, the late Cincinnati financier, Carl Lindner, Jr. Browning Day of Indianapolis has been the architectural firm of record for the Center since its conception.
