Diamond Lake is an unincorporated community in Lake County, Illinois, United States. Diamond Lake is located along Illinois Route 60 and Illinois Route 83, north of Long Grove and south of Mundelein.

Sylvan Lake is an unincorporated community in Lake County, Illinois, United States. Sylvan Lake is located on the shore of Sylvan Lake 2 miles (3.2 km) north of Hawthorn Woods and 3 miles (4.8 km) southwest of Mundelein.

Mundelein High School (MHS) is a public four-year high school located in Mundelein, Illinois, a northern suburb of Chicago, Illinois, in the United States. The school serves the Village of Mundelein and parts of surrounding villages, include Vernon Hills, Grayslake, Hawthorn Woods, Round Lake, Wauconda and Libertyville. Its feeder schools include Carl Sandburg Middle School, Fremont Middle School, West Oak Middle School portions of Hawthorn Middle School North and Hawthorn Middle School South.

Hawthorn Woods is a village in Fremont and Ela townships in Lake County, Illinois, United States. Per the 2020 census, the population was 9,062. The village is located approximately 40 miles (60 km) northwest of downtown Chicago. Hawthorn Woods was officially incorporated in 1958. Major transportation arteries include Midlothian Road, Old McHenry Road, Algonquin Road, Half Day Road, and the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway. Hawthorn Woods Country Club, whose golf course was designed by golf professional Arnold Palmer, is located within the village's perimeter.

Ivanhoe is a small, unincorporated community in Lake County, Illinois, United States near Mundelein. It took its name from the 1820 novel Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott. It is home to a private golf course named the Ivanhoe Golf Club that hosted three PGA Web.com Tour events in 2017 through 2019. The course itself is also split into two private, gated communities, the Woods of Ivanhoe in addition to the Ivanhoe Estates.

Mundelein is a village in Lake County, Illinois, United States and a northern suburb of Chicago. Per the 2020 census, the population was 31,560. It is approximately thirty-five miles northwest of Chicago.

Mundelein is a station on Metra's North Central Service in Mundelein, Illinois. The station is 39.6 miles (63.7 km) away from Chicago Union Station, the southern terminus of the line. In Metra's zone-based fare system, Mundelein is in zone H. As of 2018, Mundelein is the 148th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 276 weekday boardings. Service began on August 19, 1996, but the building was not completed until 1997. The parking lot was expanded later. As with other North Central stations, there is no ticket agent and no weekend service to this station. In addition to train service, it is used for parking for Carmel High School "Street Scenes," and for occasional electronic waste disposal events. As of December 12, 2022, Mundelein is served by all 14 trains (seven in each direction) on weekdays.

Loch Lomond is a 75 acres (30 ha) man-made lake in Mundelein, Illinois, as well as the subdivision built around it. The lake is administered by the Loch Lomond Property Owners Association, and access is restricted to members of the association and their guests. There are two beaches open to the residents of Loch Lomond: North Beach & South Beach. South Beach is the larger of the two and the main swimming area, with a large pier, raft, and playground area. This beach also offers swimming lessons in the summer. North Beach is favored for fishing; while swimming is allowed, no lifeguards are on duty. Loch Lomond forbids motorized water sports, but row boats, kayaks, pedal boats, and even small sailing boats are common. This shallow lake (5 to 8 feet (1.5 to 2.4 m) deep) has had an interesting ecological experiment taking place over the last few decades. In the 1990s a non-native carp species was introduced to the lake to alleviate the algae bloom problems from elevated levels of nutrients. However, this carp species is a non-selective feeder and has decimated lake bed vegetation which has led to lower oxygen levels negatively impacting fish populations. Several "fish kills" have happened due to low oxygen levels primarily in the winter in the history of the lake, but as of present a robust population of "game" fish species can be found in the murky waters. Loch Lomond was formed in 1955, when the Arthur T. McIntosh Company constructed a dam across the southern branch of Bull Creek, to create a centerpiece for residential development. The 550 foot (170 m) dam and 50 foot (15 m) concrete spillway were originally planned to be a roadway connecting the north and south sections of our subdivision. The Owners Association maintains and operates the dam under a plan developed by professional engineers. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources regulates dams in Illinois; the dam is subject to their requirements including regular inspections.

The 2018 KPMG Women's PGA Championship was the 64th Women's PGA Championship, played June 28 – July 1 at Kemper Lakes Golf Club in Long Grove, Illinois. Known as the LPGA Championship through 2014, it was the third of five major championships on the LPGA Tour during the 2018 season. Park Sung-hyun won the championship in a playoff over Nasa Hataoka and Ryu So-yeon. It was Park's second major win.

The 1989 PGA Championship was the 71st PGA Championship, held August 10–13 at Kemper Lakes Golf Club in Long Grove, Illinois, northwest of Chicago. Payne Stewart won the first of his three major championships, one stroke ahead of runners-up Andy Bean, Mike Reid, and Curtis Strange.Weather stopped play on Friday and Saturday with the rounds completed the following morning. In the last pairing, Reid played the final nine holes of the third round on Sunday morning. He nearly led wire-to-wire, but struggled on the final three holes, all with water in play. His tee shot at the 16th hole was pushed and found the water hazard, and he made bogey. On the par-3 17th, Reid stayed dry but misplayed a greenside chip shot from thick rough, then three-putted for double bogey and lost the lead. He had a 7-foot (2 m) birdie putt on the final hole to force a playoff, but did not convert. Stewart was five-under on the final nine and birdied four of the final five holes.Four months earlier at the Masters, Reid led with five holes to play, but finished sixth after finding water at the 15th hole. In search of a PGA Championship victory to complete a career grand slam, both Tom Watson and Arnold Palmer were on the first page of the leaderboard after the first round, with 67 and 68, respectively. Watson, 39, tied for ninth at 281 (−7) while Palmer, 59, was well back at 293 (+5). It was the final time that Palmer made the cut at the PGA Championship, though he played in the next five. Watson finished as high as fifth in 1993, but also never secured the title.

Kemper Lakes Golf Club is a private country club in the central United States, located in Ela Township, Lake County, outside Kildeer, Illinois, a suburb northwest of Chicago. It is also near the communities of Forest Lake, Lake Zurich, Hawthorn Woods, and Long Grove. Kemper Lakes was founded 44 years ago in 1979 as an upscale public course by James S. Kemper, Jr., president and chairman of the board of Kemper Insurance Co., whose corporate offices were located on the south end of the spacious property. A big, sprawling 1970s-style layout, it was designed by Ken Killian and Dick Nugent and currently measures 7,345 yards (6,716 m) from the back tees. In its early years it was ranked by Golf Digest as one of the 100 Greatest Golf Courses in America.
