St James' Church, Great Ormside

Great Ormside is a small village in the parish of Ormside, in the Westmorland and Furness district, in the English county of Cumbria. It is a few miles away from the small town of Appleby-in-Westmorland. It is near the River Eden. There is also the smaller neighbouring hamlet of Little Ormside. It also has a church called St. James's Church. Close to the church in Great Ormside is Ormside Hall, 17th-century house which incorporates the remains of a late 14th- or early 15th-century tower house.

Coupland is a small village in Cumbria, England, in the civil parish of Warcop. It is situated a short distance to the south-east of Appleby-in-Westmorland, just to the north of the A66, and lies within the historic county boundaries of Westmorland. The name 'coupland' may be a corruption of the surname coupman (cf. Kaupmann)

Appleby-in-Westmorland is a market town and civil parish in Westmorland and Furness, Cumbria, England, with a population of 3,048 at the 2011 Census. Crossed by the River Eden, Appleby is the county town of the historic county of Westmorland. It was known just as Appleby until 1974–1976, when the council of the successor parish to the borough changed it to retain the name Westmorland, which was abolished as an administrative area under the Local Government Act 1972, before being revived as Westmorland and Furness in 2023. It lies 14 miles (23 km) south-east of Penrith, 32 miles (51 km) south-east of Carlisle, 27 miles (43 km) north-east of Kendal and 45 miles (72 km) west of Darlington.

Appleby Castle is in the town of Appleby-in-Westmorland overlooking the River Eden (grid reference NY685200). It consists of a 12th-century castle keep which is known as Caesar's Tower, and a mansion house. These, together with their associated buildings, are set in a courtyard surrounded by curtain walls. Caesar's Tower and the mansion house are each recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building. The uninhabited parts of the castle are a scheduled ancient monument.

Burrells is a hamlet in the civil parish of Hoff, in the Westmorland and Furness district of the ceremonial county of Cumbria, England, located just south of Appleby-in-Westmorland on the B6260. Historically a township in the Parish of Appleby in Westmorland, the hamlet contains both the Grade II listed Burrells House (early 19th century), as well as its Grade II listed barn, rebuilt in 1818. The now disused Hoff Quarry was an important local source of stone known geologically as Brockram, a breccia of cemented limestone and sandstone fragments dating from the Permian period. From 1974 to 2023, Burrells was in the Eden district, before the Eden District Council was abolished and its functions transferred to Westmorland and Furness. There is no Church of England parish church in the civil parish of Hoff. Like the rest of the civil parish, Burrells is within the ecclesiastical parish of Appleby St Lawrence.

Brackenber is a hamlet in the civil parish of Murton in Cumbria, England. It is near the town of Appleby-in-Westmorland and the village of Hilton, Cumbria.

Rutter Force is a 30-foot (9.1 m) high horseshoe-shaped waterfall in the English county of Cumbria. Rutter Mill, a former watermill, and Rutter Mill Ford are adjacent to the falls. The falls lie on the Hoff Beck, which forms the boundary between the civil parishes of Hoff and Ormside and is a tributary of the River Eden. Although not actually in Yorkshire, the falls are in the far north-west corner of the designated area of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The falls are just 2 miles (3.2 km) south of the town of Appleby-in-Westmorland, and can be easily reached from there on foot or by car. The footpath route follows the last section of the Dales High Way, a 90-mile (140 km) long-distance footpath that runs from Saltaire, in West Yorkshire, to Appleby. Car parking is available by the ford, and a bridge provides a dry crossing for pedestrians. Rutter Mill was first documented in 1579, when it was a corn mill using the head of water from the waterfall to power a waterwheel. When the repeal of the Corn Laws made corn milling unprofitable, it was converted to serve as a bobbin mill, and later a sawmill. From 1928 to 1952, the head of water was used to drive a turbine to generate electricity for the village of Great Asby. The original waterwheel was removed in 1940, but replaced with a replica in 1991. The mill is now used as holiday accommodation.

Appleby East is a closed railway station that was a stop on the Eden Valley Railway in Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumberland (now in Cumbria), England; it was located between Kirkby Stephen East and Penrith. The station was formerly one of two that served the town, the other being Appleby West on the Midland Railway's Settle to Carlisle line; the latter station is still open, albeit now simply called Appleby.

The Shire Hall is a municipal building in The Sands, Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria, England. The shire hall, which is currently used as a dental surgery and business centre, is a Grade II listed building.
