Newington Cemetery is a cemetery in Edinburgh, Scotland. Technically it lies beyond Newington itself, standing on an awkward elongated kite-shaped site between a railway line and Dalkeith Road, between Prestonfield and Peffermill.

Prestonfield is a primarily residential suburb in the south of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. It lies to the east of the A7 road, as it leaves the city centre, approximately 3 miles south of the centre. It is best known as being home to Prestonfield House, a renowned hotel, and Prestonfield Golf Club. The golf course is the nearest to the city centre. It lies west of Duddingston and is bounded on its west side by Newington Cemetery. Cameron Toll lies to the south. Pollock Halls of Residence and the Commonwealth Pool lie to the north. The area was known as Priestfield until the late seventeenth century, a name retained by the parish church, other institutions and several street names. The area is visually dominated by Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags to the east, which tower above the area.

Inch House, a former country house situated within Inch Park in Edinburgh, Scotland is a category A listed building. The oldest part, a Scottish vernacular L-plan tower house, dates from the early 17th century. From 1660 it was owned by the Gilmour family, who arranged for additions and extensions to the house in the 18th and 19th centuries. It was sold to the then Edinburgh Corporation in 1945. Since then it has been used as a primary school and more recently as a community centre.

St. Margaret's School was an independent school in the Newington area of Edinburgh, Scotland. The curriculum was based on the Scottish education system. The school was one of three all-girls, private, fee-paying schools based in the Edinburgh district. The school was a private boarding school to cater for students staying from home was offered and often housed a small group of students. The school competed alongside other female-dominated private schools in the country.

The Bridgend Farmhouse Community Project in Edinburgh, Scotland is a community-owned and community-run charitable organisation. The project restored an 18th-century farmhouse to provide a community meeting place, café, garden and workshops. The project runs classes, workshops and training courses in a variety of crafts and skills aimed at all age groups. It also provides facilities for performances, gatherings, talks, entertainment and small conferences. Given charitable status under the title Bridgend Inspiring Growth (BIG), the project was one of the first in Scotland to achieve community ownership in an urban setting. In 2018 it became the first organisation in Scotland to transfer from a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) to a Community Benefit Society with charitable status.

Prestonfield House is a boutique hotel in Prestonfield, Edinburgh, Scotland. Prestonfield House was originally built in 1687 by architect Sir William Bruce, and was once considered a wealthy rural estate, but in recent decades has come to serve as a hotel. Although it falls on the small side as an establishment, having only 23 rooms, Prestonfield House is well-known to hotel and hospitality critics.The hotel is at the foot of Arthur's Seat. The hotel owns a large roundhouse, previously used for keeping horses. The stables were repurposed and now host events, including the "Taste of Scotland Festival".

The Inch is a district of Edinburgh, Scotland, located to the south of Inch Park in the south of the city. It is located 2 miles (3 km) south south-east of central Edinburgh. It incorporates the Inch housing development, Inch Park and the category A listed Inch House, a former country house now used as a community centre. The associated Inch Doocot or dovecot, also a category A listed building, is situated close by, west of Gilmerton Road.

Newington Railway Station was a railway station in Edinburgh, Scotland, on the Edinburgh Suburban and Southside Junction Railway. It served the southern Edinburgh suburb of Newington and the station site is still visible from Craigmillar Park. Newington station closed in 1962, when passenger rail services were withdrawn from the Edinburgh Suburban line although the line itself was retained for rail freight use. The route continues to be used for freight services to this day, so freight trains avoid Edinburgh's main stations of Edinburgh Waverley and Haymarket, and occasionally diverted passenger trains also pass along this line.

Edinburgh University Association Football Club are a football club representing the University of Edinburgh. Established in 1878, they are third oldest club in East of Scotland football and have been a member of the Scottish Football Association (SFA) since that year. Edinburgh University are eligible to compete in the Scottish Cup every season as they are full members of the SFA. The club's present home is at Peffermill, where it has played since its move from Canal Field in 1978.

Pollock Halls of Residence is the largest halls of residence for the University of Edinburgh, located at the foot of Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh, Scotland. The complex of buildings houses more than 2,000 undergraduate students during term time, and is available to the public as bed and breakfast-style accommodation outside of the teaching term. While some of the buildings date from the 19th century, the majority of Pollock Halls dates from the 1960s and early 2000s. Pollock Halls are located on the edge of Holyrood Park, 1+1⁄4 miles (2.0 km) southeast of the centre of Edinburgh, and 3⁄4 mile (1.2 km) from the university's central area around George Square.

Salisbury Green is an eighteenth-century house, on the Pollock Halls of Residence site of the University of Edinburgh.Originally built around 1780 by Alexander Scott, it is one of the two original buildings on site, along with St Leonard's Hall. From 1820, the house was extended repeatedly. In 1860-67 the architect John Lessels remodelled in house in baronial style, for the publisher William Nelson (1816–1887), of the Thomas Nelson publishing company. The university acquired the building after World War II and it was extended again in 1979. Several of its public rooms have been restored including the bow-fronted drawing room to the east, the Red Room with ebony fittings and the oak-panelled billiard room. Its interior includes rich painting by Charles Frechou. In 2006, Salisbury Green was given a thorough refurbishment, and is now operated by the university as the Salisbury Green Hotel. It no longer houses students. The building (including its boundary walls) has been category A listed since December 1970.

The University of Edinburgh School of Physics and Astronomy is the physics department of the University of Edinburgh. The School was formed in 1993 by a merger of the Department of Physics and the Department of Astronomy, both at the University of Edinburgh. The Department of Physics itself was a merger between the Department of Natural Philosophy and the Department of Mathematical Physics in the late 1960s. The School is part of the University's College of Science and Engineering.
