Dorchester, Baltimore

Ashburton is a middle class, predominantly African-American neighborhood in the Forest Park region of northwestern Baltimore City, Maryland. It is located near Liberty Heights Avenue and Hilton Street, and is characterized by mixture of single family housing and blocks of row houses.It has been home to many prominent African Americans, including former Baltimore mayors Catherine Pugh, Kurt L. Schmoke, State Senator Lisa Gladden, and State Delegate Shawn Z. Tarrant. Benjamin Jealous, former NAACP president and chief executive officer, traveled as a child from northern California to spend his summers here with his maternal grandparents. Former Baltimore mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, former Clerk of the Court Frank M. Conaway Sr., and attorney Dwight Pettit grew up in this neighborhood as children. Civil Rights activist, Walter P. Carter moved his family to Ashburton in 1965. His daughter, State Senator Jill P. Carter grew up there and represents the area as senator for Maryland Legislative District 41. The Carter family retains the family home on Egerton Road.

Callaway-Garrison is a neighborhood in the Northwest district of Baltimore, located between the neighborhoods of Dorchester (west) and Ashburton (east). Its boundaries are marked by West Cold Spring Lane (north), Liberty Heights Avenue (south), Callaway Avenue (east) and Garrison Boulevard (west).

Hanlon Longwood is a neighborhood in the Northwest District of Baltimore, located between the neighborhoods of Garwyn Oaks (west) and Burleigh–Leighton (east). It is bounded by North Dukeland Street (east), Garrison Boulevard (west) and the Gwynns Falls Parkway (south). The neighborhood's north boundary is marked by North Longwood Street, North Hilton Street and Liberty Heights Avenue.

West Cold Spring station is a Metro SubwayLink station in Baltimore, Maryland. It is located at the intersection of Wabash Avenue and Cold Spring Lane in the Arlington neighborhood, adjacent to the Towanda-Grantley neighborhood. It is the sixth most northern and western station on the line, with approximately 300 parking spaces.The station features the sculpture "Wabash Outcrop" by Jim Sanborn. In 2021, funding was allocated for a community driven public art project, Towanda LaneScape, adjacent to West Cold Spring station.

Garwyn Oaks is a neighborhood in the Northwest District of Baltimore, located between the neighborhoods of Windsor Hills and Hanlon Longwood. The boundaries of its somewhat rectangular shape are marked by Woodhaven Avenue (north), Gwynns Falls Parkway (south), Garrison Boulevard (east) and Chelsea Terrace (west).The land now occupied by the Garwyn Oaks community was originally part of George Repold Vickers' Mount Alto estate. Many of the more than 300 houses in Garwyn Oaks are wood frame single-family detached homes and shingle style row houses that were built in the early 1900s. A diverse population of blue and white collar workers, self-employed workers, professionals and retired people live in these houses.

Forest Park High School is a public secondary school in the Dorchester neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland, United States. Forest Park was established in 1924 as the Forest Park Junior-Senior High School. In 1932, the Forest Park Junior High School was moved and renamed the Garrison Junior High School. The Old Senior High School remained at its 4300 Chatham Road location until 1981 when it was torn down and the new school was built and occupied at the current Eldorado location.

Towanda-Grantley is a neighborhood in northwest Baltimore which predominantly consists of attached residential properties which were built in the 1950s. The neighborhood is often described as part of the greater Park Heights area, and includes the West Cold Spring Metro Subway station at its northwestern edge at the intersection of West Cold Spring Lane and Wabash Avenue.

Windsor Hills Historic District is a national historic district in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It is a cohesive residential suburb defined by rolling topography, winding, picturesque streets, stone garden walls, walks and private alley ways, early-20th century garden apartments, duplexes, and freestanding residences. Structures are predominantly of frame construction with locally quarried stone foundations. Windsor Hills developed over a period from about 1895 through 1929. The dominant styles include Shingle cottages, Dutch Colonial Revival houses, Foursquares, and Craftsman Bungalows.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Carlin's Park was a park in Baltimore, Maryland. It was founded in 1918 by John J. Carlin. The park was noted among members of the outdoor amusement park industry for the development of profitable winter operation and activities. Carlin's Iceland hosted indoor ice skating, winter carnivals, figure skaters, and was home to the Baltimore Orioles in the Eastern Amateur Hockey League.Carlin's Park was hailed as "Clean Fun For the Entire Family", because it was a place where the entire family could be entertained. There was a roller coaster, a tea cup ride, a swing ride, and many other attractions including a large swimming pool, some circus acts, and fireworks. A common suggestion in ads of the time was to "make a date to roller skate" at Carlin's roller rink. Carlin's park also held all night dance parties with live bands. Traveling shows, including operas, would also make appearances at Carlin's Park.A series of events in the mid-1950s spelled the end of Carlin's Park. The first event was the death of owner John J. Carlin in May 1954. Next came a fire in 1956 that destroyed the ice skating arena. The final blow to Carlin's Park was being overlooked by the City of Baltimore in the awarding of the new Civic Arena.

Carlin's Iceland was an indoor artificial ice arena in Baltimore, Maryland, that was part of a city amusement park, known as Carlin's Park. It opened in December 1931, and was Baltimore's first indoor rink. The building was converted from a ballroom, to an ice surface measuring 85 × 120 ft (26 × 36.5 m), and seating for 1,200 people. In the first winter of operation, Iceland hosted school teams, before it was expanded for the following season. The Baltimore Orioles in the Eastern Amateur Hockey League played at Carlin's from 1932 to 1942. In its renovated setup, Iceland held 3,000 spectators, hosted annual winter carnivals, and once hosted a Sonja Henie show.Subsequent hockey teams to play at Iceland include, the United States Coast Guard Cutters from 1942 to 1944, and the Baltimore Blades/Baltimore Clippers from 1944 to 1949 in the EAHL, and a revived Baltimore Clippers team from 1954 to 1956, in the EHL. Carlin's Iceland burned down on January 23, 1956, when an explosion ignited the building, causing an estimated $175,000 in damages. Baltimore had 12 games remaining in its schedule at the time.

Maryland Academy of Technology and Health Sciences (MATHS) was a public charter school in Baltimore, Maryland, United States that opened in 2006 and closed in 2018. The school was open to all students, did not charge tuition and provided a comprehensive college preparatory education for students in grades 6 through 12. There was an emphasis on preparing students for future careers in biotechnology and health sciences. The school was funded by the state of Maryland and was founded by Rebekah Ghosh in an effort to help the city's faltering graduation rates and better prepare students for solid careers.

ConneXions: A Community Based Arts School (formerly known as the ConneXions Community Leadership Academy) is a public secondary school located in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. Connexions open in 2002 and it now share building with Bard.
