St Mary's Church, Ticehurst

Ticehurst is both a village and a large civil parish in the Rother district of East Sussex, England. The parish lies in the upper reaches of both the Bewl stream before it enters Bewl Water and in the upper reaches of the River Rother flowing to the south-east. The parish includes the parish wards of Ticehurst, Flimwell and Stonegate. The linear settlements of Berner's Hill and Union Street lie between Ticehurst and Flimwell. It lies to the south-east of Tunbridge Wells, and is about ten miles (16 km) distant.

Ticehurst House Hospital was a mental health facility. It opened in 1792 and was owned and run by five generations of members of the Newington family until 1970. In 2000, the hospital name changed from Ticehurst House Hospital to The Priory Ticehurst House when it became part of the Priory Group.

Bewl Water is a reservoir in the valley of the River Bewl, straddling the boundary between Kent and East Sussex in England. It is about 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Lamberhurst, Kent. The reservoir was part of a project to increase supplies of water in the area. It supplies Southern Water’s customers in the Medway towns, Thanet and Hastings.Work began to construct the reservoir in 1973 by damming and then flooding a valley. It was completed in 1975 having been filled with over 31,300 million litres of water. The project cost £11 million to build. It is now the largest body of inland water in South East England. In winter, when the flow in the River Medway exceeds 275 million litres per day, river water is pumped to storage in the reservoir. There is an outline plan to raise the water level by a further 3m to increase the yield by up to 30% to help with the growing water demand in South East England. This will however put further demands on the River Medway to supply the additional water required with the potential for environmental degradation in the river and the eco-systems that it supports.

Bewl Bridge Rowing Club is a rowing club on the Bewl Water, based at Bewlbridge Lane, Lamberhurst, Wadhurst, Tunbridge Wells. Rowers aged 12 and upwards of any ability are allowed to join the club.

Combwell Priory was a priory near Bedgebury Cross about 10 miles southeast of Tunbridge Wells in Kent, England.

Combwell Wood is a 110.6-hectare (273-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south-east of Tunbridge Wells in Kent. The wood is part of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is divided into 36 sections owned by different people.Much of this ancient wood has traditionally been coppiced, but there has probably been undisturbed woodland on steep slopes, and uncommon bryophytes here are thought to be survivors from the Atlantic warm period around 5,000 years ago. There are also several nationally scarce water beetles.The site is private land, but a public footpath goes through it.

Flimwell is a village in the civil parish of Ticehurst, in the Rother district of East Sussex, England. It is located close to the border with Kent at the junction of the A21 road with the A268 and the B2087. The village is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Bewl Water and Bedgebury Pinetum, and neighbouring villages include Ticehurst, Hurst Green and Hawkhurst. The origin of the place-name is from the Old English words fliema and wella meaning the spring of the fugitives. The placename appears as Flimenwelle in 1210.The village is linear in shape and the largest of a group of settlements, some of which contain large residential properties, to both the west and east of the main road. Other settlements are Union Street and Dale Hill to the west, and Seacox Heath to the east. Including the surrounding woods and fields, Flimwell covers an area of approximately 3.5 km2, of which only approximately 5% is built-up. Until 2020, Flimwell had no defined centre, but this has now changed with the completion of a new Village Hall and two car parks (one at the village hall and one on the High Street for local residents only). There are a number of businesses & facilities in and around the village, including an award-winning smokery and wine store, pub, motel, pine furniture shop, church, cricket ground with pavilion, playground, a park with a café and offices, and various businesses. Flimwell parish church is dedicated to St Augustine of Canterbury. In the 16th century, Flimwell was one of the stages on the post road from London to Rye.On the eastern edge of the village lies Seacox House, owned by the Russian Embassy and used as a dacha for Embassy staff. Built in 1871, by architects Carpenter and Slater, it is a Grade II listed building in the style of a French chateau. The house was the subject of news reports in 1999, when dogs from the estate were said to have 'killed approx. 50 ewes and attacked 100 others'. The British Government is considering gifting the dacha to the Ukrainian Government as compensation for the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Scotney Castle SSSI is a 112.5-hectare (278-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in the grounds of Scotney Castle, a National Trust property south-east of Tunbridge Wells in Kent.This site has parkland, grassland, woodland. There are dormice, a protected species, and several nationally scarce invertebrates, such as Rolph's door snail. There are man-made ponds and a moat.The gardens are open to the public.

The Weald () is an area of South East England between the parallel chalk escarpments of the North and the South Downs. It crosses the counties of Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex and Kent. It has three separate parts: the sandstone "High Weald" in the centre; the clay "Low Weald" periphery; and the Greensand Ridge, which stretches around the north and west of the Weald and includes its highest points. The Weald once was covered with forest, and its name, Old English in origin, signifies "woodland". The term is still used today, as scattered farms and villages sometimes refer to the Weald in their names.

Bedgebury Cross is a hamlet in the civil parish of Goudhurst. It is located, in the Bedgebury Forest area of Kent, England. It is located on the B2079 road connecting Goudhurst with the A21 road at Flimwell. The term "cross" refers to a wayside cross that originally existed at this site, this cross is replicated in the brickwork of the chimney of one of the cottages. Presumably the chimney was built over roughly the site of the cross.Probably the most well-known Bedgeburian is Thomas Culpeper (c. 1514–1541), the lover of Queen Catherine Howard, who was King Henry VIII's fifth wife. Culpeper and Howard were both executed when the affair became known.

Scotney Castle is an English country house with formal gardens south-east of Lamberhurst in the valley of the River Bewl in Kent, England. It belongs to the National Trust. The gardens, which are a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a celebrated example of the picturesque style, are open to the public. The central feature is the ruins of a medieval, moated manor house, Scotney Old Castle, which is on an island on a small lake. The lake is surrounded by sloping, wooded gardens with fine collections of rhododendrons, azaleas and kalmia for spring colour, summer wisteria and roses, and spectacular autumn colour. At the top of the garden stands a house which was built to replace the Old Castle between 1835 and 1843. This is known as Scotney New Castle, or simply Scotney Castle, and was designed by Anthony Salvin. It is an early and unusually restrained example of Tudor Revival architectural style in 19th-century Britain. Following the death of the resident, Elizabeth Hussey, in 2006, this house was opened to the public for the first time on 6 June 2007.

Etchingham railway station is on the Hastings line in the south of England and serves the village of Etchingham, East Sussex. It is 47 miles 34 chains (76.3 km) down the line from London Charing Cross. The station and all trains serving it are operated by Southeastern.
