Sandy Point Island

Elihu Island is a private island off the coast of Stonington, Connecticut. It is located in Wequetequock Cove, just southwest of Goat Island and northeast of the western tip of Sandy Point Island. It has been variously known as Ledward or Ledward's Island, Elihu's or Elihue's Island, Elihu Chesebrough's Island, and Freeman's Island.The island, which has a handful of buildings, has been used for weddings. Its sole road is Elihu Island Road, which provides access to the mainland via a causeway. The road crosses one of the last remaining level crossings on the Northeast Corridor. The island is owned by the private Elihu Island Trust, associated with the Wesson and Benchley families. Peter Benchley lived on the island when writing Jaws and several of his other works.

The Borough School, also known as Stonington High School from 1910 to 1939, is a condominium building at 25 Orchard Street in Stonington, Connecticut. It was built in 1888 and is a distinct and high quality local example of Second Empire architecture. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and was converted to residential use in 1981. This building is not to be confused with the town's modern high school, Stonington High School, in Pawcatuck.

Goat Island is part of Stonington, Connecticut in Wequetequock Cove. It is just northeast of Elihu Island, and is also close to the coast along the Northeast Corridor. Sandy Point Island is nearby southwest along Little Narragansett Bay.

Plax is the name of a manufacturing factory that was located in Stonington, Connecticut. It began operations in Stonington in 1957, and was later purchased by the Monsanto Chemical Company. It specialized in the manufacturing of plastic bottles. The General Manager was Benedict U. Feole, formerly of New Britain, Connecticut and Westerly, Rhode Island.

Stonington is a borough and the town center of Stonington, Connecticut, referred to by locals as "The Borough". The population was 976 at the 2020 United States Census, up from 929 in 2010.The densely built Borough of Stonington occupies a point of land that projects into Little Narragansett Bay. It has two main streets that link Cannon Square and Wadawanuck Square, named for the former Wadawanuck Hotel that brought wealthy visitors in the post-Civil War era. Its colonial, Federal, and Greek revival architectures have been preserved through the lack of traffic or modern industry, together with the borough's role as a fashionable summer residence, while the activity of one of Connecticut's last remaining fishing and lobstering fleets keeps it from being simply a quaint, historic village. There is a large community of Portuguese descent.

The James Merrill House is a 19th-century house at 107 Water Street in Stonington Borough in southeastern Connecticut, formerly owned by poet James Merrill. Upon his death in 1995, the house was kept by the village as a home for writers and scholars.

Wequetequock Cove is a cove located in southeastern Connecticut, near Stonington. It empties into Fishers Island Sound. Elihu Island and Goat Island (Connecticut) are in Wequetequock Cove. Saltwater Farm Vineyard is located along its shore. Fishers Island, New York is a boundary between the Cove and the Atlantic Ocean.

The John Palmer House is a historic house at 291 North Burnham Highway in Lisbon, Connecticut. Built in 1790, it is a well-preserved example of an 18th-century Cape style farmhouse. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

The Capt. Nathaniel B. Palmer House is a historic house museum in Stonington, Connecticut, built in 1852–54. The house is a transitional style between the Greek revival and the Victorian Italianate. It was built for Nathaniel Brown Palmer (1799–1877), who was a seal hunter, a pioneering Antarctic explorer, and a major designer of clipper ships. The house was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1996. Threatened with demolition, it was acquired by the Stonington Historical Society in 1995, which operates it as a museum devoted to Palmer.

Napatree Point in Rhode Island, often referred to simply as Napatree, is a long sandy spit created by a geologic process called longshore drift. Up until the Hurricane of 1938, Napatree was sickle-shaped and included a 1.5-mile (2.4 km) long northern extension called Sandy Point. Napatree now extends 1.5 miles (2.4 km) westward from the business district of Watch Hill, a village in Westerly, Rhode Island forming a protected harbor. It is the southernmost and westernmost point of mainland Rhode Island.

Fort Mansfield was a coastal artillery installation located on Napatree Point, a long barrier beach in the village of Watch Hill in Westerly, Rhode Island.

Stonington Cemetery is a historic cemetery at North Main Street and United States Route 1 in Stonington, Connecticut. Established as a family cemetery about 1754, it was the first formally incorporated cemetery in New London County, with the incorporation of its association occurring in 1849. Its layout is reflective of changing trends in cemetery organization, from colonial practices to those of the 20th century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.
