Wasserbillig Aquarium

Wasserbillig (Luxembourgish: Waasserbëlleg [vaːsɐˈbələɕ] ) is a town in the commune of Mertert, in eastern Luxembourg. As of 2005, Wasserbillig has 2,186 inhabitants, which makes it the largest town in Mertert. Wasserbillig is the administrative seat of the commune of Mertert.

The Sauer (German and Luxembourgish, German pronunciation: [ˈzaʊ̯ɐ] , Luxembourgish: [ˈzɑʊɐ] ) or Sûre (French, French pronunciation: [syʁ] ) is a river in Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. A left tributary of the Moselle, its total length is 173 kilometres (107 mi). Rising near Vaux-sur-Sûre in the Ardennes in southeastern Belgium, the Sauer flows eastwards and becomes the border with Luxembourg near Martelange. It forms the border between Belgium and Luxembourg for 13 kilometres (8 mi) north of Martelange. West of Esch-sur-Sûre it flows into an artificial lake, the Upper Sûre Lake created by the Esch-sur-Sûre Dam, which gives its (French) name to the Luxembourgian commune of Lac de la Haute-Sûre. After flowing through Ettelbruck and Diekirch, the Sauer forms the border between Luxembourg and Germany for the last 50 kilometres (31 mi) of its course, passing Echternach before emptying into the Moselle in Wasserbillig. The rivers Wiltz, Alzette, White Ernz, Black Ernz, Our, and Prüm are tributaries.

Wasserbillig railway station (Luxembourgish: Gare Waasserbëlleg, French: Gare de Wasserbillig, German: Bahnhof Wasserbillig) is a railway station serving Wasserbillig, in the commune of Mertert, in eastern Luxembourg. It is operated by Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois, the state-owned railway company.The station is situated on Line 30, which connects Luxembourg City to the east of the country and Trier.

Oberbillig is a municipality in the Trier-Saarburg district, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The municipality is situated on the Moselle river, a situation reflected in the design of its coat of arms. There is a car ferry across the Moselle that connects Oberbillig in Germany to the city of Wasserbillig in Luxemburg.

The Sauer Valley Bridge is a motorway (Autobahn) bridge high above the Sauer River which at this point marks the frontier between Luxembourg and Germany. It was constructed between 1984 and 1987.The bridge is 1,195 m (3,920.6 ft) long and, at the lowest point of the valley, 98 m (321.5 ft) above the valley floor. Viewed from above it is formed as a curve with a radius of 2,000 m (6,561.7 ft). Additionally, the road surface has a constant 1% gradient. The girder bridge was built with a single superstructure for both carriage ways, and is positioned approximately a kilometer to the north of Wasserbillig in Luxembourg.

Little Switzerland (Luxembourgish: Kleng Lëtzebuerger Schwäiz, French: Petite Suisse Luxembourgeoise, German: Kleine Luxemburger Schweiz) is a nickname for a region in the east of Luxembourg, bestowed upon the region on account of its reputed geographical similarities to Switzerland. It is roughly contiguous with the canton of Echternach. It is also known as the Mullerthal (Luxembourgish: Mëllerdall, German: Müllertal) after the town of Mullerthal. Little Switzerland is thought to have similar terrain to its namesake country, hence the name; it is dominated by craggy terrain, thick forests, some caves and myriad small streams. Unlike Switzerland, Little Switzerland is low-lying, even by Luxembourg standards (its highest peak is only 414 m above sea level). Little Switzerland is the smallest of Luxembourg's sub-regions. Within its territory, covering only 7% of Luxembourg, there is only one medium-sized settlement, Echternach (which is Luxembourg's oldest surviving city). Smaller towns include Beaufort, Berdorf and Consdorf.

Mertert (Luxembourgish: Mäertert) is a commune and town in eastern Luxembourg, on the border with Germany. It is part of the canton of Grevenmacher. The commune consists of the towns of Mertert and Wasserbillig. Mertert has a river port on the Moselle, the largest in Luxembourg. The commune's administrative centre is Wasserbillig. The Syre or Syr (Luxembourgish: Sir) is a river flowing through Luxembourg, joining the Moselle in Mertert. It flows through Schuttrange, Roodt-sur-Syre, Betzdorf and Manternach.

Moersdorf (Luxembourgish: Méischdref) is a small town in the commune of Mompach, in eastern Luxembourg. As of 2005, the town has a population of 293. It is often called the “little Switzerland of Luxembourg” by residents and tourists alike.
