Selden Island

Broad Run is a tributary of the Potomac River in Loudoun County, Virginia. The creek, located between Goose Creek and Sugarland Run, principally drains portions of eastern Loudoun County, as well as a small portion of western Fairfax County.The headwaters of the creek are located about 3 miles (4.8 km) northeast of Aldie. The creek flows eastward near Arcola and continues generally northeast to its mouth at the Potomac near the southern end of Seldon's Island to the north of Sterling and about 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Leesburg. The watershed of the creek is 67.5 mi2 (175 km2) in Loudoun and 23.8 mi2 (62 km2) in Fairfax.The majority of the run forms the border between the unincorporated areas of Ashburn and Sterling. The Broad Run Magisterial District of Loudoun and Broad Run High School derive their names from the waterway. The Broad Run Bridge and Tollhouse is a national listed historic site. The creek should not be confused with the nearby Broad Run (a tributary of the Occoquan River) that flows through Fauquier and Prince William Counties.

Janelia Research Campus is a scientific research campus of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute that opened in October 2006. The campus is located in Loudoun County, Virginia, near the town of Ashburn. It is known for its scientific research and modern architecture. The current Executive Director of the laboratory is Ronald Vale, who is also a vice-president of HHMI. He succeeded Gerald M. Rubin in 2020. The campus was known as "Janelia Farm Research Campus" until 2014.

Janelia or Janelia Farm is a mansion and former farm near Ashburn, Virginia, built in 1936 for artist Vinton Liddell Pickens and her husband Robert Pickens, a journalist. The farm property has become the Janelia Research Campus of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, which surrounds the house.

Mt. Nebo is a historic home located at Poolesville, Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. It is a large 2+1⁄2-story gable-roofed frame dwelling constructed in three periods: the main block, dating to the second quarter of the 19th century; a 1+1⁄2-story wing extends from the rear of the main block, which appears to have been an earlier dwelling from the late 18th century; and a two-story addition was made to the east gable end of the main block around the turn of the 20th century. Also on the property is a mid-19th-century log smokehouse and the remains of an early terraced "waterfall" garden. The property derives additional significance from its association with the White family through the latter half of the 19th century. Joseph White (1825–1903) was a locally prominent supporter of the Confederate cause during the American Civil War. Mt. Nebo was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

George Washington University Virginia Graduate Campus is the campus of George Washington University in the Ashburn area of unincorporated Loudoun County, Virginia, United States.

Edelman Financial Field was a planned 4,000-seat multisport stadium in Ashburn, Virginia, within the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, that would have hosted the Loudoun Hounds of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and Virginia Cavalry FC of the North American Soccer League.

One Loudoun is a census-designated place (CDP) in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. It is a mixed-use development just south of Virginia State Route 7, 29 miles (47 km) northwest of Washington, D.C., and 7 miles (11 km) southeast of Leesburg. One Loudoun was developed since the 2010 census, so it was not recognized as a census-designated place until the 2020 census. The community has an Ashburn mailing address. As of the 2020 census, the population was 2,285.

University Center is a census-designated place (CDP) in Loudoun County, Virginia, United States. The population as of the 2010 United States Census was 3,586. Mailing addresses in the community are for Ashburn.

Cordoba University is an Islamic university located in Ashburn, Virginia, United States. The university is made up of the Graduate School of Islamic and Social Sciences (GSISS) and Cordoba School of Professional Studies. GSISS is part of a United States Department of Defense program for training Muslim military chaplains which produced the United States Marine Corps' first Muslim chaplain. GSISS is an affiliate member of the Washington Theological Consortium.

Lansdowne is a census-designated place and planned community located near Leesburg, Virginia, United States. The population as of the 2010 United States Census was 11,253. It is north of State Route 7 and south of the Potomac River. Before the Revolutionary War, the Lee family established Coton Manor here. A section of the Potomac Heritage Trail runs through Lansdowne. It is the home of Inova Loudoun Hospital, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, Lansdowne Resort, Prison Fellowship, and Lansdowne Woods of Virginia, a gated, age-restricted community. Lansdowne is part of the Washington metropolitan area.

The Broad Run Bridge and Tollhouse were built for the Leesburg Turnpike Company in Loudoun County, Virginia. The stone bridge, built about 1820, was a permanent replacement for a series of wood bridges at the location, with at least three that had been washed away between 1771 and 1803. The bridge spanned Broad Run on two arches with prominent conical buttresses. The road rose to the center of the bridge. The stone toll house stands nearby. It is a one-story three-bay house that has been progressively enlarged. The Tollhouse was purchased by the county Board of Supervisors with intentions to restore the facility.One span of the bridge collapsed, on June 21, 1972, as a result of flooding from Hurricane Agnes. The remainder of the bridge has since collapsed, leaving only the stone abutments.The bridge and tollhouse were placed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 17, 1970.
