University of Delaware

Memorial Hall, originally known as Memorial Library, is a historic building on the University of Delaware campus in Newark, Delaware. Formerly housing the university's library, it also serves as a memorial to the Delawareans who died in World War I. The building was designed by the Philadelphia firm of Day & Klauder as part of their overall master plan for the university's central campus, which featured a consistent Georgian Revival architectural style. The library was built in 1923–25 under the supervision of university president Walter Hullihen, though it had to be scaled back from the original design for cost-saving reasons. It was remodeled and expanded in 1940 after a flood damaged part of the library collection. Library operations moved to the new Morris Library in 1963, and Memorial Hall now houses the UD Department of English. Situated at a prominent location at the center of the Green, the university's main common area, Memorial Hall is a 1+1⁄2-story, H-shaped building with a hipped-roofed central hall and gable-roofed wings. The architecture is Georgian, with brick walls, white wooden trim, and double-hung sash windows. The building's main entrances are on the north and south sides, each of which features a portico with Ionic columns. The central hall houses the war memorial display.

Chambers House is a historic home located at Newark in New Castle County, Delaware. It was built in 1890 and is a two-story, frame dwelling in the Queen Anne style. It features cross gables, bay windows, and a wrap-around porch. Also on the property is a contributing carriage house. It was the home of the Chambers family until 1980, after which it was purchased by the University of Delaware. It currently serves as the University's Venture Development Center, which is a laboratory for students and faculty developing new businesses.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Joseph R. Biden, Jr. School of Public Policy & Administration is an independent entity at the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware, and is named for the 46th and current president of the United States, Joe Biden. Formerly the School of Public Policy Administration, the school offers three bachelors, six masters and an online MPA and four doctoral degree programs in "research and public service activities to improve the quality of life in communities around the world."According to U.S. News & World Report, the Joseph R. Biden, Jr. School of Public Policy and Administration is ranked 38th among 269 national public affairs schools. It is also ranked 36th in the field of public management and leadership; and ranked 16th in the areas of public finance and budgeting.The Master in Public Administration program is accredited by the National Association of School of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) and is also the only MPA program in the state of Delaware to be NASPAA-accredited.

The Bartol Research Institute (formerly the Bartol Research Foundation) is a scientific research institution at the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Delaware. Its members belong to the faculty of the University of Delaware and perform research in areas such as astroparticle physics, astrophysics, cosmology, particle physics, and space science.

Building at 28–34½ Academy Street is a historic apartment building located at Newark in New Castle County, Delaware. It was built in 1888 and is a 2+1⁄2-story frame structure with 16 bays at the east main facade. It was built as an eight unit row house.It is commonly known as "Skid Row" to Newark residents and is a popular housing location for University of Delaware students. For many years, twice a year, a major music event named "Skidfest" was held in the rear yard of the structure. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company, Fire Station No. 2 is a historic fire station located at Newark in New Castle County, Delaware. It was built in 1922 and is a two-story ashlar structure with secondary wings on three sides. It features a gable roof with frame cupola.The four engine bays facing Academy Street house a tiller ladder, two modern engines, and the company's restored 1926 Seagrave engine "Old Bessie" which is used for parades and other special events.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company, Fire Station No. 1 is a historic fire station located at Newark in New Castle County, Delaware, USA. It was built in 1890 and is a two-story, rectangular common brick building. It has two main bays on the east gable end facade. It served as the city's sole fire fighting facility until the 1920s. The station currently houses 2 ambulances to complement the fire fighting apparatus located at the station across the street. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

State Theater was an historic theater located at Newark in New Castle County, Delaware. It was built about 1929 and was a Neoclassical style, rectangular brick structure with one of the narrow ends oriented toward the street. The theater occupied most of the building, with two small store spaces located at either end of the facade. It was closed near the end of the 1980s, and it was demolished in 1989.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Old Newark Comprehensive School is a historic school building in Newark, Delaware. It was completed in 1884 and is a two-story, rectangular public building. It has five bays at the original north front facade, with a later addition to the west. It housed elementary school grades from the time of its construction to about 1900. It housed the high school's industrial arts program from 1935 until 1965 and then served as the location of the Christina School District's administrative offices, until 2009.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Wright House is a historic home located at Newark, New Castle County, Delaware. It was built in 1922 and is a 2+1⁄2-story "E"-shaped brick dwelling with a five-bay front facade. It is in the Colonial Revival style. It features a three bay main portico with fluted Corinthian order columns and a frame porte cochere. The house was purchased by the University of Delaware after 1950 and serves as the home of the University President.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Newark Opera House is a historic commercial building and opera house located at Newark in New Castle County, Delaware. It was built in 1885 and is a four-story rectangular building with six bays at the north front facade. The fourth story was added in 1907. It features a mansard roof covered with patterned slate shingles in the Second Empire style. Between about 1885 and 1925 it was the site of live theater and music, in addition to movies.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Rhodes Pharmacy is a historic pharmacy building located at Newark in New Castle County, Delaware. It was built in 1917 and is a two-story, rectangular brick commercial building with a concrete Gothic Revival facade.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
