The University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC) is a public research university in Kansas City, Missouri. UMKC is part of the University of Missouri System and one of only two member universities with a medical school. As of 2015, the university's enrollment exceeded 16,000 students. It is the largest university and third largest college in the Kansas City metropolitan area. It is classified among "R2: Doctoral Universities – High research activity".

Swinney Recreation Center is home to UMKC Campus Recreation and is the student recreation center for UMKC. The recreation center includes a fitness center, 5 multipurpose basketball courts, several group fitness studios, 4 raquetball courts, a squash court, an indoor track, a recreational field, an outdoor track and a large aquatics center. The recreation center offers memberships for UMKC students, faculty and staff as well as community members. The recreation center also holds a 1,500-seat arena It is the home of the UMKC men's and women's basketball teams, known since the 2019–20 season as the Kansas City Roos. Under the school's previous athletic identity as the UMKC Kangaroos, the men's basketball team played there from 1969 to 1986, and again from 2010 to 2012. The men returned at the beginning of 2019. The Kansas City women's basketball team also currently plays their home games at Swinney Recreation Center. Swinney Recreation Center was originally built in 1941 as Swinney Gymnasium by what was then the University of Kansas City. It was named in honor of Edward F. Swinney, chairman of First National Bank of Kansas City (now part of Bank of America), who had donated $250,000 toward the project. Long known as "Old Swinney," it was renamed Swinney Recreation Center after a $14.5 million addition in 1988. The facility now has five basketball/volleyball courts, four racquetball courts, a 25 meter indoor/outdoor pool, and exercise rooms.The men's team played at Swinney during its days as an NAIA member, and moved to Municipal Auditorium when it joined the NCAA. However, in 2010, UMKC announced that the men's basketball team would make Swinney its primary home court. They moved back to Municipal just two years later. They returned to the Swinney Recreation Center at the beginning of 2019.

New Letters, the name it has been published under since 1970, is one of the oldest literary magazines in the United States and continues to publish award-winning poems and fiction. The magazine is based in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Linda Hall Library is a privately endowed American library of science, engineering and technology located in Kansas City, Missouri, sitting "majestically on a 14-acre (5.7 ha) urban arboretum." It is the "largest independently funded public library of science, engineering and technology in North America" and "among the largest science libraries in the world."

Stanley H. Durwood Soccer Stadium and Recreational Field, commonly known as Durwood Soccer Stadium or DSSRF for short, is a soccer-specific stadium on the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC) campus that serves as the home of the Kansas City Roos men's and women's soccer teams. It was the home of the National Women's Soccer League's FC Kansas City during the 2014 season. The stadium has a capacity of 850 seats and has a running track around the field. The stadium opened in 2009, with an official dedication ceremony before a Kangaroos match on October 6, 2009. It is named after Stanley H. Durwood, a longtime benefactor of the university's athletic department, and his foundation contributed $5 million of the $9 million it cost to build the stadium.UMKC and FC Kansas City reached a two-year deal in January 2014 to play the team's home matches at DSSRF and to expand the seating capacity to 3,200, but after one season, the team moved to Swope Soccer Village.The stadium also hosted a 2010 U.S. Open Cup match between the Kansas City Wizards (now Sporting Kansas City) and the Colorado Rapids.

The Stowers Institute for Medical Research is a biomedical research organization that conducts basic research on genes and proteins that control fundamental processes in living cells to analyze diseases and find keys to their causes, treatment, and prevention. The main facility is located in Kansas City, Missouri adjacent to the University of Missouri–Kansas City main campus. The Institute has spent over 1 billion $US on research.

Henry W. Bloch School of Management (formerly known as Henry W. Bloch School of Business and Public Administration) is an AACSB accredited business school founded in 1952 at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in Kansas City, Missouri. It offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Business, Accounting and Public Administration. It is named after Alumnus Henry W. Bloch, founder of H&R Block. The Bloch School also offers NASPAA accredited degrees in Public administration.

The University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law is a public law school located on the main campus of the University of Missouri-Kansas City in Kansas City, Missouri, near the Country Club Plaza. It was founded in 1895 as the Kansas City School of Law, a private, independent law school located in Downtown Kansas City, and was purchased by the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1938. The law school moved to UMKC's main campus soon after, where it is accredited by the American Bar Association and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools.

KansasFest (also known as KFest) is an annual event for Apple II computer enthusiasts. Held every July at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri, KansasFest typically lasts five days and features presentations from Apple II experts and pioneers, as well as games, fun events, after-hours hallway chatter, late-night (or all-night) runs out to movies or restaurants, and more. A number of important new products have been released at KansasFest or developed through collaborations between individuals who likely would not have gotten together. Some of the most notable have been the introduction of the LANceGS Ethernet Card, and the Marinetti TCP/IP stack for the Apple IIGS. Due to COVID-19, the 32nd and 33rd annual KansasFests were virtual-only, held July 24–25, 2020, and July 23–24, 2021, respectively. The 34th annual KansasFest is currently planned to be held July 19–24, 2022, at Rockhurst University.

Rockhurst University is a private Jesuit university in Kansas City, Missouri. Founded in 1910 as Rockhurst College, Rockhurst University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It enrolled 2,980 students in 2019.

The Ewing and Muriel Kauffman Memorial Garden is a 2-acre botanic garden and part of the Kauffman Legacy Park, located in Kansas City, Missouri. It is maintained in a collaborative effort by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and Powell Gardens. The gardens are located near Country Club Plaza and the main campus of University of Missouri–Kansas City. The Kauffman Memorial Garden is enclosed by limestone walls and has brick paths and seating areas. The garden showcases five designs.
