Dortmund-Dorstfeld station

Dortmund-Dorstfeld Süd station is an underground station in the district of Dorstfeld of the city of Dortmund in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It was built on a loop line (line 2190) off the Witten/Dortmund–Oberhausen/Duisburg railway, which was opened on 24 September 1983 from Bochum-Langendreer to Dortmund-Dorstfeld. The station was also opened on 24 September 1983 and it is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 4 station.The station is served by line S 1 of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn (Dortmund–Solingen) every 15 minutes during the day between Dortmund and Essen.

Dortmund West station is a railway station in the Dortmund district of Marten in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 6 station. It was opened on 3 June 1984 on the Osterath–Dortmund Süd railway completed between the old Dortmund-Dorstfeld station and the old Dortmund Süd (south) station by the Rhenish Railway Company on 19 November 1874 and electrified on 25 May 1984. It is proposed to build platforms on the Elberfeld–Dortmund railway to provide interchange with S-Bahn line S 5. It is served by Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn line S 4 at 30-minute intervals (15-minute intervals in the peak between Dortmund-Lütgendortmund and Unna-Königsborn).It is also served by bus routes 452 (Saarlandstr – Funkenburg – Spähenfelde + Dortmund Hbf (475 – Mengede)), every 30 minutes) and 453 (Saarlandstr – Märkische Str – Schüren + Dortmund Hbf – Anne-Frank-GS), every 30 minutes), both operated by DSW21.

Dortmund-Wischlingen is a railway station on the Welver–Sterkrade railway situated in Dortmund in western Germany. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 6 station. It is served by Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn line S 2 every 30 minutes.It is also served by bus routes 447 (Huckarde + Dorstfeld - Uni - Hombruch - Wellinghofen - Hacheney) and 465 (Huckarde + Dorstfeld - Universität - Oespel) both operated by DSW21.

Dortmund University station (German: Haltepunkt Dortmund Universität) is an underground S-Bahn station on the line between Dortmund and Bochum in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The station was opened on 24 September 1983 by Deutsche Bundesbahn on a new line (line 2190) built between Bochum-Langendreer and Dortmund-Dorstfeld. Like other stations on this line, it is served only by passenger trains. The station has side platforms on the two track, which are both 218 m long and 96 cm high and therefore allow a level access to the trains running there. There are no other rail facilities. The station is located directly beneath the campus of the University of Dortmund. The code for the operating point is EDUV (E = former railway division of Essen, D = Dortmund, UV = University).

TU Dortmund University (German: Technische Universität Dortmund) is a technical university in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany with over 35,000 students, and over 6,000 staff including 300 professors, offering around 80 Bachelor's and master's degree programs. It is situated in the Ruhr area, the fourth largest urban area in Europe. The university is highly ranked in terms of its research performance in the areas of physics, electrical engineering, chemistry and economics. The university pioneered the Internet in Germany, and contributed to machine learning (in particular, to support-vector machines, and RapidMiner).

Fachhochschule Dortmund - University of Applied Sciences and Arts (German: Fachhochschule Dortmund) is a university of applied sciences (German: Fachhochschule) in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany with 14,057 students, and 894 staff, 255 of which are teaching staff. It is situated in the Ruhr area, the fourth largest urban area in Europe. Fachhochschule Dortmund was created by a merger of several institutions of higher education in 1971. Owing to its history as separate institutions, it consists of three campuses in different parts of Dortmund. The Faculties of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology are located at Sonnenstraße near the city center. The Faculty of Design has its own campus at Max-Ophüls-Platz, while the Faculties of Applied Social Studies, Business Studies, Computer Science and Architecture are housed in several buildings next to the TU Dortmund University campus in the suburb of Eichlinghofen. The university is known for its Faculty of Business Studies. Additional offices in the city center are used for administrative purposes.

Construction on Dortmund's port which terminates the Dortmund-Ems Canal connecting Dortmund to the North Sea started in 1895. It was opened 1899 by Kaiser Wilhelm. At the beginning of the 20th century it was mainly used for the import and export of wheat, coal and ore. The port was expanded in the 1920s and 1930s by adding new docks as well as on the administrative infrastructure (Dortmunder Hafenamt). Today Dortmund Port is the biggest European canal port with 10 docks and a pier length of 11 km. Gaining its greatest importance after WW II, in 1972 6.2 million tonnes of good were shipped over the port. But even the completion of the container port in 1987 could not stop the gradual decline of the port resulting from the extinction of the coal and steel industries in Dortmund. 2.96 million tons of freight were shipped over the Dortmund Port in 2007, an increase of 7.1 percent compared to the previous year. In the process of restructuring the industry in the Ruhrgebiet and in Dortmund, local politicians are looking for new ways to use the old port. Planned projects are the construction of a marina and high-quality areas for recreational use and residential redevelopment on the water. In 2005 a first location for recreational use was established.

The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology (German: Max-Planck-Institut für molekulare Physiologie) is located in Dortmund, next to the Dortmund University of Technology. It is one of 80 institutes in the Max Planck Society (Max Planck Gesellschaft).

Dortmund-Huckarde Nord (north) station is a passenger station in the Dortmund district of Huckarde in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 7 station.The station is located on the Duisburg-Ruhrort–Dortmund railway (Cologne-Minden Emscher Valley Railway) and has one platform. The Emscher Valley Railway through the station was initially opened mainly for the transport of coal to the port of Duisburg at the beginning of 1878. Passenger trains first stopped at Dortmund-Huckarde Nord (originally called Huckarde) in 1879 or 1892. In 1908, the station was equipped with an impressive building. The building was, with Dortmund-Kurl station, one of the last two station buildings built in Dortmund immediately before the First World War.Dortmund-Huckarde Nord station is still a stop on the RB 43 Regionalbahn services (Emschertalbahn). There is a restaurant in the station building. The train station is a registered monument on the list of monuments of Dortmund and part of the Industrial Heritage Trail.

Dortmund Möllerbrücke station is a transportation hub to the southwest of the inner city of Dortmund, near the Kreuzviertel (district) and West Park. A Dortmund Stadtbahn underground station is located next to the station. The station is named after the nearby Möller bridge (Möllerbrücke) and is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 5 station. The above ground section of the station is served by Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn line S 4 and the underground section is served by line U42 of the Dortmund Stadtbahn. It is located on the historic Ruhr line of the Rhenish Railway Company.
