White Bear railway station, on Station Road, Adlington, Lancashire, England, was on the Lancashire Union Railway line between St Helens and Blackburn. The station was named in some timetables as White Bear (Adlington) or White Bear for Adlington.The station opened on 1 December 1869 one month after the line that it was situated on, the Lancashire Union Railway from Boars Head Junction in Standish to Rawlinson Bridge, opened for goods traffic. Passenger services also opened on the same date at Boars Head Junction and at Red Rock. The joint line was constructed because the Wigan coal owners wanted better transportation links to the mills and factories of East Lancashire. The coal owners also wanted a line that would allow trains to go south and gain direct access to Garston Dock where shipping charges were far less than Liverpool dock. The station was closed to passengers on 4 January 1960, but the line was used for freight and diversions until 1971.Adlington railway station, serving the Manchester to Preston Line, is now the sole station in the village. The tracks have been lifted and the station site has been completely built over.

The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. It is registered as a parish of the Society under the patronage of St Wilfrid and St Hilda.

Adlington railway station serves the village of Adlington, near Chorley in Lancashire, England. It is a two-platform station on the Bolton- Chorley- Preston line. This is part of the Northern service link between Preston and Manchester via Bolton and Chorley. Until 1960 Adlington was also served by a station named White Bear (on the Lancashire Union Railway).

Adlington is a village and civil parish in Lancashire, England, near the West Pennine Moors and approximately three miles south of Chorley. It became a separate parish in 1842 then grew into a township around the textile and coal mining industries until these closed in the 1960s. It had a population of 5,270 at the 2001 census, but in the last decade this has risen by over 2,000 more people to 7,326. The measured population at the 2011 Census was 6,010. The Leeds and Liverpool Canal runs through the village and is host to White Bear Marina which is the largest marina on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

Duxbury Hall was a 19th-century country house in Duxbury Park estate in Duxbury Woods, Lancashire that has been demolished. The hall was a plain two-storey building faced in millstone grit ashlar standing in a well-wooded park 1½ miles (2.5 km) south of Chorley. The entrance on the east front was via a Doric portico. In the cellars was evidence of an earlier building, probably a brick-built house enclosing a courtyard on three sides. The later building followed the same plan, having north and south wings extending westward from the east front. The roof was of green slate

Duxbury Woods is an area of woodland and parkland situated in Chorley, Lancashire, at the foot of the West Pennine Moors. The area originally existed as a township with the council meeting at the Yarrow Bridge pub; this was absorbed into Chorley Rural District in the early 20th century. Duxbury today is home to Duxbury Jubilee Park, Duxbury Golf Course, the woods and the River Yarrow. It was also home to Duxbury Hall, the seat of the Standish family. The estate and grounds still exist with the gardens, stables, coachhouse, 16th century barn and Lodges on Bolton Road and Wigan Lane remaining. The Hall itself was built in the 17th century, and was demolished to make way for housing in 1957. Many consider the great barn (which remains) to be the original home of the pilgrim father Myles Standish.

Rivington Water Treatment Works is a water treatment plant in Rivington, Lancashire, England. It is located below the Lower Rivington Reservoir, the last in the Rivington chain of reservoirs. The first treatment works, a slow-sand filter plant on the site opened in 1860, supplying water to Liverpool. The present works was built in 1994, and in 2007 was the largest automated three-stage plant operated by United Utilities, the water is now disinfected by adding small amounts of chlorine. Most of its output supplies customers in the Wigan area.Raw water from the Rivington chain of reservoirs can be supplied to the Thirlmere Aqueduct via a pipeline downstream of the Lower Rivington Reservoir embankment and treated water via a pumping main and the Treated Water Pumping Station on the Rivington Water Treatment Works site..

Ellerbeck Colliery was a coal mine located on the border of Coppull and Adlington in the Borough of Chorley in Lancashire, England. The Hilton House and Red Moss Coal Company sank the first shaft in 1876 and the colliery closed in 1928.In 1896 Ellerbeck employed 460 underground workers and 148 on the surface. In 1923 Ellerbeck Nos. 1 & 2 pits had expanded to employ 892 underground workers and 156 on the surface. Ten years later the colliery was owned by the Blackrod Colliery Company and the pit employed 50 underground and 22 surface workers mining the Bone, Wigan Six Feet and New coal seams. The colliery was nationalised in 1947 becoming part of the National Coal Board and was redeveloped employing 411 men in 1958 before finally closing in 1965.The colliery was served by a branch line of the Lancashire Union Railway, remnants of which including the old bridge foundations on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal are evident today. The branch line was shared with neighbouring Duxbury Park Colliery.

Yarrow Bridge is a small road bridge which crosses the River Yarrow in Chorley, Lancashire, England. The bridge carries the A6 road over the river. There is also a pub and garage next door to bridge which carries the same name. The bridge has existed since the late 17th century when the road leading to Bolton (A6) was put east away from Duxbury Woods. Before this a previous road bridge existed with its foundations still remaining within the woodland. A spa was also established behind the bridge on Hoggs Lane in the 1850s; so much was the popularity of the spa was that over 10,000 people attended the spa on one day in remarkably hot summer of 1850. The small cottage which exists in the shadow of the bridge is the only remnant of the spa's existence. The public house which is adjacent and carries the bridge's name is one of the oldest in Chorley. The establishment was previously known as the Standish Arms after the local manor lords of Duxbury Hall and carries local historical significance as it was believed to be the staging point for local constables from Preston during the Battle of Duxbury Hall in 1813. The bridge is also at the point were the River Yarrow and the Black Brook meet; a smaller adjacent bridge carries Hoggs Lane over the Black Brook.

Anderton is a civil parish in the Borough of Chorley in Lancashire, England. It is now a suburb of Adlington, 5 miles (8 km) northwest of Bolton. Within its boundaries are the Rivington Reservoirs. Grimeford village is in the parish. In 2001, the parish had a population of 1,206, increasing to 1,316 at the 2011 census.The Rivington services on the M61 are at the south of the parish.
