Płock County (Polish: powiat płocki) is a unit of territorial administration and local government (powiat) in Masovian Voivodeship, east-central Poland. It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. Its administrative seat is the city of Płock, although the city is not part of the county (it constitutes a separate city county). The county contains three towns: Gąbin, 17 km (11 mi) south of Płock, Drobin, 29 km (18 mi) north-east of Płock, and Wyszogród, 39 km (24 mi) south-east of Płock. The county covers an area of 1,798.71 square kilometres (694.5 sq mi). As of 2019, the total country population is 110,987, out of which the population of Gąbin is 4,125, that of Drobin is 2,872, that of Wyszogród is 2,601, and the rural population is 101,389.

Płock Governorate was an administrative-territorial unit (guberniya) of Congress Poland of the Russian Empire. It was created in 1837 from the Płock Voivodship, and had the same borders and capital (Płock) as the voivodship. In 1867 territories of the Augustów Governorate and the Płock Governorate were divided into a smaller Płock Governorate, Suwałki Governorate (consisting mostly of the Augustów Governorate territories) and recreated Łomża Governorate. The Governorate consisted of eight counties (uyezds): Ciechanowski Lipnowski Mławski, Płocki Płoński Przasnyski Rypiński Sierpecki

Płock Department (Polish: Departament płocki) was a unit of administrative division and local government in the Polish Duchy of Warsaw from 1806 to 1815. Its capital city was Płock, and it was further divided onto 10 powiats. In 1815 it was transformed into Płock Voivodeship.

Płock Voivodeship (Polish: Województwo Płockie) was a unit of administrative division and local government in the Kingdom of Poland from 1495 until the partitions of Poland in 1795. Together with the Rawa Voivodeship and Masovian Voivodeship it formed the historical region of Mazovia, and with several other voivodeships it formed part of the Greater Poland Province. Zygmunt Gloger in his monumental book Historical Geography of the Lands of Old Poland gives a detailed description of Płock Voivodeship: "After childless death of Janusz II, Duke of Łomża, Ciechanów, Wizna and Płock, which took place on February 16, 1495, the Duchy of Płock, except for the Land of Wyszogród, was incorporated into the Kingdom of Poland, and turned into a voivodeship (...) In the 16th century, it had the area of 701 square miles, divided into eight small counties: those of Płock, Bielsk, Raciąż, Sierpc, Płońsk, Szrensk, Niedzborz, and Mława. The three last counties, located between the Wkra river and Prussian border, made the so-called Zawkrze Land (...) The voivodeship had 67 Roman-Catholic parishes, 63 towns and 1,115 villages. Most densely populated was Bielsk County (...) Local sejmiks for the voivodeship took place at Raciąż, the town located in the middle of the province. During the reign of King Stanisław II Augustus, the sejmiks were moved to Płock. The voivodeship had five senators: the Bishop of Płock, the Voivode of Płock, the Castellan of Płock, and Castellans of Raciaz and Sierpc. Land courts were located in Płock, Bielsk and Sierpc (since 1726, also in Mława)".

Płock (pronounced [pwɔt͡sk] ) is a city in central Poland, on the Vistula river, in the Masovian Voivodeship. According to the data provided by GUS on 31 December 2021, there were 116,962 inhabitants in the city. Its full ceremonial name, according to the preamble to the City Statute, is Stołeczne Książęce Miasto Płock (the Princely or Ducal Capital City of Płock). It is used in ceremonial documents as well as for preserving an old tradition.Płock is a capital of the powiat (county) in the west of the Masovian Voivodeship. From 1079 to 1138 it was the capital of Poland. The Wzgórze Tumskie ("Cathedral Hill") with the Płock Castle and the Catholic Cathedral, which contains the sarcophagi of a number of Polish monarchs, is listed as a Historic Monument of Poland. It was the main city and administrative center of Mazovia in the Middle Ages before the rise of Warsaw as a major city of Poland, and later it remained a royal city of Poland. It is the cultural, academic, scientific, administrative and transportation center of the west and north Masovian region. Płock is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Płock, one of the oldest dioceses in Poland, founded in the 11th century, and it is also the worldwide headquarters of the Mariavite Church. In Płock are located also the Marshal Stanisław Małachowski High School, the oldest school in Poland and one of the oldest in Central Europe, and the Płock refinery, the country's largest oil refinery.

Płock Voivodeship (Polish: województwo płockie) was a unit of administrative division and local government in Poland from 1975 to 1998 and earlier from the 15th century till 1795. The more recent one was superseded by Łódź Voivodeship and Masovian Voivodeship. Its capital city was Płock. Płock Cathedral (Polish: Katedra Płocka), or the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Masovia, is a Roman Catholic cathedral in the city of Płock, in central Poland. It is an example of 12th-century Romanesque architecture and is the oldest and most important historical monument in the city, which contains the tombs of several Polish monarchs. It is listed as a Historic Monument of Poland.

The Diocese of Płock (Latin: Dioecesis Plocensis) is a Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church located in the city of Płock in the ecclesiastical province of Warszawa in Poland. Sunday mass attendance in 2013 was 30.7% of the population (39.1% Polish average) placing it to the group of less religious dioceses in the country.

Marshal Stanisław Małachowski High School (Polish: Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Marszałka Stanisława Małachowskiego w Płocku) is a school in Płock and the oldest school in Poland. Its roots go back to 1180. It is now a general education high school. It was named after the Polish statesman Stanisław Małachowski.

The Castle of the Masovian Dukes in Płock is a Gothic castle built under the reign of Casimir III the Great, becoming a stronghold of the Dukes of Masovia until the fifteenth century. The castle is located in the Princely Capital City of Płock, Masovian Voivodeship; in Poland.

The Pier in Płock (Polish: Molo w Płocku, Polish pronunciation: [ˈmɔlɔ v ˈpwɔt͡sku]) is a pleasure pier in Płock, Poland, reaching into the Vistula River. The pier in Płock is also a part of the marina. The pedestrian pier in Płock is 358 meters (1174.54 feet) long, 5.3 meters (17.39 feet) wide, except for the end of the pier, which is 15.3 meters (50.20 feet) wide. At the end of the pier is situated a restaurant. The pier is a steel structure.

Bolesław III the Wrymouthed Monument in Płock (Polish: Pomnik Bolesława III Krzywoustego w Płocku) shows prince Bolesław III Wrymouth (ruler of Poland in the years 1107–1138, born on August 20, 1086, in Płock) on horseback, surrounded by a group of warriors walking with banners. The monument is made of light sandstone. Is over 5 meters tall and weighs about 21 tons. Construction of the monument was initiated by Marian Wilk by decision of the (then)president of Płock, Miroslaw Milewski. The sculptor was Zbigniew Mikielewicz. On July 31, 2012, the monument was placed on Prince's Square (Polish: Plac Książęcy) near Piekarska Street and St. Bartholomew's parish church. The original location of the monument, Gabriel Narutowicz Square, was changed in 2011 by the decision of Płock City Council. In the Royal Chapel on the north side of Płock Cathedral is a marble sarcophagus forming a tomb with the remains of the two Polish rulers: Bolesław III the Wrymouthed (1086 –1138) and his father Władysław I Herman (c. 1043 –1102), also prince and ruler of Poland during the years 1079 –1102. During the reign of these rulers, 1079 –1138, Płock was the capital of Poland.
