Bloomington is a historic home located at Louisa, Louisa County, Virginia. The dwelling evolved into its present form from an original two-room, split-log dwelling dating to about 1790. The main block was built about 1832, and is a two-story, three-bay structure with steeply-pitched gable roof constructed over a raised brick basement. A one-story, gable-roofed addition was attached to the north wall of the main block about 1900. The house is a rare example of 18th-to-early-19th-century English frame construction which found expression in early Southern Colonial style. Also on the property are a contributing tobacco barn, horse barn, corn crib, and tool shed.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

On August 23, 2011, a magnitude 5.8 earthquake hit the Piedmont region of the U.S. state of Virginia at 1:51:04 p.m. EDT. The epicenter, in Louisa County, was 38 mi (61 km) northwest of Richmond and 5 mi (8 km) south-southwest of the town of Mineral. It was an intraplate earthquake with a maximum perceived intensity of VIII (Severe) on the Mercalli intensity scale. Several aftershocks, ranging up to 4.5 Mw in magnitude, occurred after the main tremor. The quake was felt across more than a dozen U.S. states and in several Canadian provinces, and was felt by more people than any other quake in U.S. history. No deaths and only minor injuries were reported. Minor and moderate damage to buildings was widespread and was estimated by one risk-modeling company at $200 million to $300 million, of which about $100 million was insured.The earthquake prompted research that revealed that the farthest landslide from the epicenter was 150 miles (240 km), by far the greatest landslide distance recorded from any other earthquake of similar magnitude. Previous studies of worldwide earthquakes indicated that landslides occurred no farther than 36 miles (58 km) from the epicenter of a magnitude 5.8 earthquake. The Virginia earthquake study suggested that the added information about East Coast earthquakes may prompt a revision of equations that predict ground shaking.

Acorn is a farm-based, anarchist, egalitarian, intentional community located in rural Louisa County, Virginia, United States. It is a member of the Federation of Egalitarian Communities. Acorn was started in 1993 as a spin-off community of the older, larger Twin Oaks Community. In the early 1990s, the Twin Oaks population filled to capacity, with many more people who still wished to join. The increase of people put pressure on the community, eventually having the founding of Acorn by Twin Oaks members on a 75-acre farm 7 miles away from Twin Oaks.

Louisa (originally named Louisa Court House) is a town in Louisa County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,555 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Louisa County.

Louisa County Courthouse is a historic courthouse building located at Louisa, Louisa County, Virginia. It was designed by architect D. Wiley Anderson from Richmond and built in 1905. It is a two-story, five-bay, porticoed Classical Revival brick structure. It measures 59 feet wide and 63 feet deep and features a pedimented portico supported by four Ionic order columns. It has a modified hipped roof topped by an octagonal drum, dome and lantern. Associated with the courthouse is the contributing old jail built in 1818, and rebuilt in 1868 after a fire; the Crank Building (1830); R. Earl Ogg Memorial Building (1917); and a Civil War monument.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Louisa High School is a historic high school building located at Louisa, Louisa County, Virginia. It was designed by noted Richmond architect Charles M. Robinson and built in 1907, as a 1 1/2-story, stone building. About 1916, a second story was added along with an auditorium addition to the rear. Early in 1924 a fire gutted the building, leaving only the granite walls. It was rebuilt in its two-story configuration in 1925. The school served as an elementary school after 1940, and closed in 1987. The building was restored starting in 2002, and reopened in 2006 as a town hall, art gallery, and performing arts center.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

Boxley Place is a historic home located at Louisa, Louisa County, Virginia. The original house was built in 1860, as an Italianate/Greek Revival-style dwelling. It was enlarged and remodeled in 1918 by architect D. Wiley Anderson in the Colonial Revival-style. It is a two-story, brick dwelling with large rear and side additions. The front facade features a two-story portico supported by Ionic order columns, with Chinese Chippendale railings. Also on the property are a contributing log house and well.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Cuckoo is a small unincorporated community in Louisa County, Virginia, United States. It is located about eight miles southeast of Louisa, roughly between Charlottesville and Richmond. The Cuckoo Tavern stood nearby, which in 1781 was the beginning of Jack Jouett's ride to warn the Colonists of the arrival of Banastre Tarleton's British cavalry (similar to Paul Revere's Ride). There was also a large house named Cuckoo built in 1819 for Henry Pendleton on the former property of William Overton Callis. A historical marker is at the spot. Its post office has been closed. The tavern was named for the cuckoo clock on the wall, supposedly one of the first in Virginia.George Jackson, the father of Shirley Ann Jackson, American nuclear physicist and President of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, was a native of Cuckoo.

Cuckoo is a Federal style house in the small community of Cuckoo, Virginia near Mineral, Virginia, built in 1819 for Henry Pendleton. Cuckoo was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 19, 1994. The house is prominently sited on U.S. Route 33, which curves around the house. Cuckoo's interior retains Federal detailing alongside Colonial Revival elements from the early 20th century. The house is notable for its design, prominence and its association with the Pendleton family of doctors. The house was named for the Cuckoo Tavern, which stood nearby from 1788. It has been in the Pendleton family since its construction.

The Oaks is a historic home located near Kents Store, Fluvanna County, Virginia. It was built between about 1809 and 1830. The rear ell is the original section, and is a two-story, brick structure. In 1830 the brick, single pile, two-story structure over a raised basement was built onto the south. The house has a slate covered gable roof. A small one-story weatherboard addition was built onto the rear about 1915. Also on the property are the contributing outdoor kitchen (later used as a schoolroom), a smokehouse, an icehouse, a latticed covered well, a barn, and the large Richardson/Bowles family cemetery.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
