Varese railway station

The province of Varese (Italian: provincia di Varese) is a province in the Lombardy region of Italy. Its capital is the city of Varese (population of 80,857 inhabitants), but its largest city is Busto Arsizio. The headquarters of AgustaWestland, the company merged into Leonardo since 2016 and the world's largest producer of helicopters, is based in Samarate, a comune (municipality) of the province. As of 2015, it has a population of 889,410 inhabitants over an area of 1,198.11 square kilometres (462.59 sq mi). The province contains 139 comuni (SG: comune).

The Casa del Fascio of Varese (Italian pronunciation: [ˈkaːza del ˈfaʃʃo, ˈkaːsa -]), also known as Palazzo del Littorio or Questura di Varese, is a Casa del Fascio located in Varese, Italy. Inaugurated in 1933, the building was designed by Mario Loreti as the provincial headquarters of the National Fascist Party during Fascist Italy. It is recognized for its architectural significance as a representation of Italian Rationalism.

The University of Insubria (Italian: Università degli Studi dell'Insubria) is an Italian university located in Como and Varese, with secondary locations in Busto Arsizio and Saronno. It was founded in 1998, it has been named after the area where it is situated, the historical-geographical region of Insubria. According to the ranking made by Il Sole 24 Ore in 2011, the University of Insubria places itself 16th out of the 58 state-supported Italian universities; third in Lombardy after Politecnico di Milano and University of Pavia.The Faculty of Law in Como has passed from the 9th to the 6th place in the CENSIS 2010/2011 Faculty of Law table. In 2013 the Faculty of Law was ranked 7th place nationally, with a rating of "AAA", within the list drawn up by the "Great University Guide" prepared by the newspaper La Repubblica, in collaboration with Censis (was in 4th place in 2011 and the 6th place in 2010).

The Palazzo Estense is a Baroque palace built for Francesco III d'Este and the House of Este in Varese, Italy. The palace was designed by architect Giuseppe Bianchi and was completed in 1760. It became the home, by purchase in 1765, of Francesco III d'Este, Duke of Modena and interim Austrian governor of Lombardy, who was also invested in that year with the non-hereditary lordship of Varese, a fief specially established for him by the Empress Maria Theresa.Today, the palace houses the civic administration of the local municipal council and hosts conferences and concerts. In May 2010 it hosted a meeting of G6 Interior Ministers.

The Circolo Hospital and Macchi Foundation (Italian: Ospedale di Circolo e Fondazione Macchi) is the largest hospital of Varese, Italy. Since 1995 is a hospital of national importance and high specialization. In 1975 it hosted the second faculty of Medicine of the University of Pavia, later incorporated in the new University of Insubria.

The Battle of Varese was fought on 26 May 1859 at Varese (Lombardy). It was an engagement of the Second Italian War of Independence, fought between the Italian volunteers formation of the Hunters of the Alps, led by Giuseppe Garibaldi, against Austrian troops led by Karl von Urban. The Austrian defeat allowed the movement of the Hunters towards Como, and obliged the Austrians to keep troops on the northern part of the front.

Villa Recalcati is a Baroque palace in Varese, in the neighborhood Casbeno, in Italy. It is the headquarter of the Province of Varese and one of the two locations of the Prefecture of Varese. Villa Recalcati was built in the first half of the eighteenth century next to an existing structure by Marquis Milanese Gabrio Recalcati, heir to an ancient lineage which was also part of Francesco Recalcati, Secretary of Ludovico il Moro. Antonio Luigi Recalcati commissioned an enlargement of the structure between 1756 and 1776. The villa's illustrious guests included composer Giuseppe Verdi. At the beginning of the 20th century, the villa and its grounds were purchased by Giacomo Limido, Gerolamo Garoni, and Eugenio Maroni Biroldi that transformed the building in the Varese's Grand Hotel Excelsior. Varese in 1927 became the capital of the Province and in 1931 the provincial institution bought the entire building.

The Statal Institute of Higher Education Isaac Newton (Italian: Istituto Statale di Istruzione Superiore Isaac Newton) is an Italian secondary school in the city of Varese. It is a technical-professional school. It assumed the current name in 2007, with the union of the Technical Industrial School of Varese (ITIS) and the Professional Institute of State for Industry and Handicrafts of Varese (IPSIA). It is located in Casbeno, in Via Gianluigi Zucchi.
