Thanikkudam Bhagavathi Temple

Thanikkudam is a rapidly growing suburb north-east of Thrissur, in the Indian state of Kerala. The village-town is home to the Thanikkudam Bhagavathi Temple which is popularly known across the central part of Kerala. A small river, which has become perennial in recent times stretches through the middle of the village, oriented in a north-east to South-west direction. The area is also wound around by the Right Branch Main Canal (RBMC) of the Peechi hydro-irrigation project system.

The largest menhir type megalithic monument in granite in Kerala is found here. A local catholic church (St. Francis Xavier's Church, Pallimoola, Ramavarmapuram) has recently been adorned with mural paintings in the traditional Kerala style. This is the first instance of such a church decoration in Kerala in modern times. At the time of the founding of a broadcasting station of All India Radio in Thrissur, the place where the station was established was renamed as Ramavarmapuram. Prior to that the place was known as Anappara. The original place name still lingers in native usage. Over the years the place specified as Ramavarmapuram expanded to include the entire region in the northern suburbs of Thrissur City. After of the formation of Thrissur Municipal Corporation in September 2000, one of the fifty-two divisions of the city has been named Ramavarmapuram. There is also a Post Office named Ramavarmapuram (PIN : 680631) serving parts of these suburbs. The area can be reached by bus from Swaraj Round and North Bus Stand in Thrissur.

The college is affiliated to University of Calicut and the off campus or the study centre of Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. Vimala College is a Women's college in Thrissur City of Kerala state, India. It was established in 1967 after bifurcating St. Mary's College, Thrissur. The college is under the management of the Nirmala Province, Thrissur, of The Congregation of Mother of Carmel in the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. The college is under the religious jurisdiction of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Archdiocese of Thrissur and is one of the leading educational institutions related to or run by church organizations. Vimala College was the only women's college in Kerala which offered exclusively graduate and post-graduate programmes. The college was presented the R Shankar Award in 2002 by the Government of Kerala. It has been re-accredited with an A grade at 3.3 CGPA in a four-point scale in 2008 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangalore.
