St Margaret's Convent, Midhurst

Midhurst () is a market town, parish and civil parish in West Sussex, England. It lies on the River Rother 20 miles (32 km) inland from the English Channel, and 12 miles (19 km) north of the county town of Chichester. The name Midhurst was first recorded in 1186 as Middeherst, meaning "Middle wooded hill", or "(place) among the wooded hills". It derives from the Old English words midd (adjective) or mid (preposition), meaning "in the middle", plus hyrst, "a wooded hill".The Norman St. Ann's Castle dates from about 1120, although the foundations are all that can now be seen. The castle, the parish church of St. Mary Magdalene and St. Denis, together with South Pond, the former fish-pond for the castle, are the only three structures left from this early period. The parish church is the oldest building in Midhurst. Just across the River Rother, in the parish of Easebourne, is the ruin of the Tudor Cowdray House.

Midhurst Cricket Ground (exact name and location unknown) was a cricket ground in Midhurst, Sussex. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1830, when a Sussex team played the only first-class match at the ground against a side representing Surrey. The final recorded match on the ground came in 1866 when Midhurst played a United All-England Eleven.

The Old Town Hall is a municipal building in the Market Square in Midhurst, West Sussex, England. The building, which is managed by the Midhurst Town Trust, is a Grade II listed building.

Midhurst Grammar School was a grammar school and later a comprehensive upper school in Midhurst, West Sussex. The school served pupils aged 11 to 18 who usually joined the school from one of the local intermediate schools. It was replaced in 2009 by Midhurst Rother College . Notable students included geologist Charles Lyell and H. G. Wells.

Midhurst Rother College is a mixed Academy for students aged 11 to 19, in Midhurst, West Sussex, in southern England. It was officially formed on 1 January 2009 following the closure of three predecessor schools in the area. It serves a wide rural area in the Rother Valley of West Sussex and is sponsored by one of the largest academy groups in the country, United Learning. The college also has partnerships with the University of Chichester and Winchester College.

Midhurst railway station used to serve the market town of Midhurst in the English county of West Sussex. The first railway to reach the town was a branch line from Petersfield opened by the London & South Western Railway on 1 September 1864.The London Brighton and South Coast Railway (LBSCR) opened a separate station on 15 October 1866 when the line from Pulborough via Petworth was opened. It was resited in 1881 when a further line from Chichester in the south opened, also constructed by the LBSCR. This new station was designed by T. H. Myres in the LBSCR's 'Country House' design, which can still be seen at the preserved Bluebell Railway's stations. The station also had two signal boxes (although the Southern Railway closed one of these), while the original station continued to be used as a goods yard. An engine shed was also here but this was closed by the Southern Railway after 1923. The former London & South Western Railway station closed in 1925 when services were diverted to the former LBSCR station. The station closed to passengers after the last train on 5 February 1955, but freight services between Midhurst and Pulborough remained until 16 October 1964. The LBSCR station was demolished and the site is now under housing. The former L.S.W.R. station still survives and is now converted to offices.

Cowdray House consists of the ruins of one of England's great Tudor houses, architecturally comparable to many of the great palaces and country houses of that time. It is situated in the parish of Easebourne, just east of Midhurst, West Sussex standing on the north bank of the River Rother. It was largely destroyed by fire on 24 September 1793, but the ruins have nevertheless been Grade I listed.

Midhurst (LSWR) railway station was opened on 1 September 1864 by the London and South Western Railway, the terminus of the line from Petersfield, serving the Market town of Midhurst in West Sussex. The station was closed on 13 July 1925, after the LSWR amalgamated with other railways to create the Southern Railway and services transferred to the former London Brighton and South Coast Railway station. The goods yard remained, however, for some time afterwards, surviving the closure of the LSWR line in 1955. The station building has survived, unlike the LB&SCR station, and is now in use as offices.

Midhurst & Easebourne Football Club is a football club based in Midhurst, West Sussex, England. They are currently members of the Southern Combination Premier Division and play at the Rotherfield.

Midhurst Brickworks is a former brickworks situated to the south-west of Midhurst, West Sussex in England. The works were sited close to the (now closed) Midhurst Common railway station on the Midhurst to Petersfield (L.S.W.R.) railway line. The works were established in 1913, on land owned by the Cowdray Estate, and closed in 1985. From 1938, the company traded as Midhurst Whites after their main product, white bricks made of sand and lime, which was obtained from the Cocking Lime Works, 5 km (3 mi) south.

West Lavington is a village and civil parish on the edge of Midhurst in the Chichester district of West Sussex, England. It contains a small private nursery school and the (now deconsecrated) church of St Mary Magdalene. The church was constructed for Henry Edward Manning who was at the time rector of Woolavington, now East Lavington, with West Lavington forming a detached portion of that parish until 1851. The churchyard contains the grave of Richard Cobden although he lived in the neighbouring parish of Heyshott. In the 2001 census there were 111 households with a total population of 298 of whom 115 were economically active. At the 2011 Census the population of the civil parish was 276.As a result of falling congregations and the church's poor condition, St Mary Magdalene church was closed in September 2008 and the congregation transferred to neighbouring Cocking. The two parishes were subsequently united and are now known as "The Parish of Cocking with West Lavington". In 2013, the former church at West Lavington was offered for sale, although the graveyard will continue to belong to the parish with public access.
