Gransmore Green is a hamlet in the civil parish of Felsted, in the Uttlesford district of Essex, England. Nearby settlements include the towns of Braintree and Great Dunmow, and Felsted village. The hamlet is situated on the B1417 road, with the A120 road nearby to the north.

Great Saling is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of The Salings, in the Braintree district of the county of Essex, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 Census was 282. It is near the town of Braintree. The hamlet of Blake End was part of the parish. On 1 April 2019 the parish was abolished and merged with Bardfield Saling to form "The Salings".The village had on its green what was reputed to be the largest elm tree in England. With a girth of 22 feet 6 inches and a height of 40 metres, the elm was identified by the botanist R. H. Richens as an Ulmus × hollandica hybrid, before it succumbed to Dutch Elm Disease in the 1970s.The village features the first aerodrome to be built by the Americans in this country. Royal Air Force Andrews Field or more simply RAF Andrews Field (also known as RAF Andrewsfield and RAF Great Saling) is a former Royal Air Force station located 4 miles (6.4 km) east-northeast of Great Dunmow Essex, England. Originally designated as Great Saling when designed and under construction, the base was renamed "Andrews Field" in honour of United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) General Frank M. Andrews, who was killed in an aircraft crash in Iceland in May 1943. Andrews Field was primarily the home of the USAAF Ninth Air Force 322d Bombardment Group during the Second World War, which flew the Martin B-26 Marauder medium bomber. After being transferred to the Air Ministry in late 1944, it was used briefly by RAF Fighter Command for Gloster Meteor jet fighter testing before being finally closed in late 1945.Today the remains of the airfield are located on private property, which is used for agricultural, with a small portion used by the Andrewsfield Flying Club.

Manshead CE Academy is a mixed Church of England secondary academy and sixth form located on the outskirts of both Caddington and Dunstable in Bedfordshire, England. The academy (surrounded by countryside and hills) is a member of the Diocese of St Albans Multi-Academy Trust. The academy is the modern successor to Dunstable Grammar School, which existed from 1881 to 1971 when Bedfordshire adopted the comprehensive education system. From this time, it was an upper school educating pupils aged 13–18, with Ashton Middle School in particular acting as a feeder school to Manshead. However, in September 2014, Manshead became a full secondary school accepting pupils at age 11. In May 2017, the school converted to a sponsored academy with the Diocese of St Albans Multi-Academy Trust. The academy is named after the ancient Manshead hundred which covered an area in the south-west of Bedfordshire and included Dunstable.

Braintree Rural District was a rural district in the county of Essex, England. It was created in 1894. In 1934 the parish of Bocking was removed from the rural district and became part of the newly created Braintree and Bocking Urban District, thus dividing the rural district into two detached parts. It was named after Braintree and administered from Bocking. Since 1 April 1974 it has formed part of the District of Braintree.
