Great Longstone

St Giles’ Church, Longstone (also known as St Giles' Church, Great Longstone) is a Grade I listed parish church in the Church of England in Great Longstone, Derbyshire.

Great Longstone for Ashford railway station was a station which served Great and Little Longstone in the Peak District of Derbyshire. It was opened in 1863 by the Midland Railway on its extension of the Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway from Rowsley.

Thornbridge Hall (originally Thornbridge House) is a large English country house situated near the village of Great Longstone in the local government district of Derbyshire Dales in Derbyshire. It is a Grade II listed building.

Little Longstone is a village and civil parish in Derbyshire, England. The village is on a minor road west of Great Longstone, just off the B6465 road from Wardlow to Ashford-in-the-Water. There is a Grade-II-listed Congregational Chapel and a public house, the Packhorse Inn, in the village. As in many small parishes, there is no parish council and local democracy is administered via a parish meeting.The parish includes parts of Monsal Dale and the hamlet of Monsal Head, and lies wholly within the Peak District National Park. The Monsal Trail, a popular cycleway and footpath following a section of the former Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway, runs just south of the village.

Longstone Moor is a Site of Special Scientific Interest within Peak District National Park in Derbyshire, England. It is located 1.6 km (0.99 mi) northeast of the village of Little Longstone. This area is protected because of the heathland present on a limestone plateau. Soils can be deep and composed of loess.

Ashford-in-the-Water is a village and civil parish in the Derbyshire Peak District, England. The village is on the River Wye, 2 miles (3 km) north-west of Bakewell. It is known for the quarrying of Ashford Black Marble (a form of limestone), and for the maidens' garlands made to mark the deaths of virgins in the village until 1801. Some of these are preserved in the parish church. The civil parish population (including Sheldon) taken at the 2011 Census was 559.

Ashford Black Marble is the name given to a dark limestone, quarried from mines near Ashford-in-the-Water, in Derbyshire, England. Once cut, turned and polished, its shiny black surface is highly decorative. Ashford Black Marble is a very fine-grained sedimentary rock, and is not a true marble in the geological sense. It can be cut and inlaid with other decorative stones and minerals, using a technique known as pietra dura.

Longstone Edge is a limestone ridge in the Peak District National Park, in Derbyshire, England. Longstone Edge is immediately north of the village of Great Longstone, which is in turn about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) north of the town of Bakewell. It runs from east to west for about 6 kilometres (3.7 mi), from the village of Calver to the River Wye at Monsal Dale and is about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) wide. It rises to about 395 metres (1,296 ft) and commands far-reaching views over the Peak District.

Hassop railway station was a station situated about two miles from the village of Hassop in the Peak District of Derbyshire. It was opened in 1862 by the Midland Railway on its extension of the Manchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway from Rowsley.It was built for the benefit of the Duke of Devonshire of Chatsworth House who, having previously declined to allow the railway to pass over the easier terrain of his lands, belatedly saw its possible benefit. Indeed, for a while it was renamed "Hassop for Chatsworth". However, in this sparsely populated area, it saw little use, and closed in 1942. It greatest usefulness was as a goods yard, which closed in 1964. The station building has since been renovated by Hassop Station Ltd. Hassop Station is now a family friendly cafe with outdoor covered seating and play area, book shop, gift shop and cycle hire facility. Disabled access and toilets are available here, along with a large car park. The trackbed is part of the Monsal Trail, a walk and cycleway. Four tunnels (located between the Great Longstone station and Topley Pike Junction sites) were reopened on the trail in May 2011, lengthening the trail to a continuous 8.5 miles (13.7 km) for cyclists walkers and riders.
