Battle of Halle

Saalkreis was a district (Kreis) in the south of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Neighboring districts were (from west clockwise) Mansfelder Land, Bernburg, Köthen, Bitterfeld, the district Delitzsch in the Free State of Saxony, and the district Merseburg-Querfurt. The district-free city Halle is nearly surrounded by the district.

Halle was one of the three Regierungsbezirke of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, located in the south of the country.

Leuna Chemie Stadion, known as Erdgas Sportpark until 2021, is a stadium in Halle, Germany. It has a capacity of 15,057 spectators. It is the home of Hallescher FC and replaced Kurt-Wabbel-Stadion.

The Kurt-Wabbel-Stadion was a multi-purpose stadium in Halle (Saale), Germany. It was used mostly for football matches and was the home of Hallescher FC until 2010. It had a capacity of 23,860. The stadium was opened in 1936 and was originally named after SA officer Horst Wessel, before it was renamed the Kurt-Wabbel-Stadion, in honour of Kurt Wabbel following the end of World War Two. The stadium was used by BSG Turbine Halle and HFC Chemie. HFC Chemie later became Hallescher FC.It was closed in 2010 and replaced by Erdgas Sportpark.

The Georg Cantor Gymnasium is a German gymnasium in Halle (Saale) with a special focus on mathematics and the sciences (specialist school). The all-day school was founded in 1989. It is attended by just over 500 students and has a staff of about 60 teachers.

St. Moritz, also St. Mauritius, is a church in Halle (Saale), Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, dedicated to St. Maurice. The late-Gothic hall church was built as an Augustine Stiftskirche from 1388. It features late-Gothic stone sculptures and a notable organ from 1925.

89.0 RTL is a German radio channel whose studios are located in Halle (Saale). It aims at the 14-29 age bracket. It aired first on 24 August 2003 and replaced the radio channel Project 89.0 Digital. While it is licensed to Saxony-Anhalt, the exposed position of the Brocken at 3,743 ft allows the channel to cover large parts of central Germany, including Lower Saxony, Thuringia, Brandenburg and Saxony. The channel can be received on FM 89.0 and on DAB channel 12C.

The Marktkirche Unser Lieben Frauen ("Market Church of Our Dear Lady") is a church in the centre of the city of Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It was built between 1529 and 1554 and is the most recent of the city's medieval churches. In German, its official name is shortened to Liebfrauenkirche but it is also referred to as Marienkirche (St. Mary's Church) and the Marktkirche (Market Church). The church replaced two former churches in the market area, their towers were integrated into the new building. The Market Church is considered one of the most important buildings of the late Gothic period in central Germany. Its four towers, together with the Red Tower, are the landmark of the city, hence its nickname "Stadt der fünf Türme" (City of the Five Towers). Justus Jonas introduced the Reformation into Halle, and his friend Martin Luther preached in the church. George Frideric Handel was baptized here and received his first organ lessons. Johann Sebastian Bach inspected the new organ, and his son Wilhelm Friedemann Bach was an organist. The beginnings of both pietism and Enlightenment were connected to the church. Little damaged in World War II, the church is today a historic protected monument.

The Halle (Saale) tramway network (German: Straßenbahnnetz Halle (Saale)) is a network of tramways forming part of the public transport system in Halle (Saale), a city in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Opened in 1882, the network has been operated since 1990 by Hallesche Verkehrs-AG (HAVAG), and is integrated in the Mitteldeutscher Verkehrsverbund (MDV).

Halle (Saale), or simply Halle (German: [ˈhalə]; from the 15th to the 17th century: Hall in Sachsen; until the beginning of the 20th century: Halle an der Saale [ˈhalə ʔan deːɐ̯ ˈzaːlə] (listen); from 1965 to 1995: Halle/Saale) is the largest city of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, the fifth most populous city in the area of former East Germany after (East) Berlin, Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz, as well as the 31st largest city of Germany, and with around 239,000 inhabitants, it is slightly more populous than the state capital of Magdeburg. Together with Leipzig, the largest city of Saxony, Halle forms the polycentric Leipzig-Halle conurbation. Between the two cities, in Schkeuditz, lies Leipzig/Halle International Airport. Halle is an economic and educational center in central Germany. The Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg, with campuses in Halle and Wittenberg, is the largest university in Saxony-Anhalt, one of the oldest universities in Germany, and a nurturing ground for the local startup ecosystem. The university hospital of Halle (Universitätsklinikum Halle (Saale)) is the largest hospital in the state.

The Wilhelm Friedemann Bach House is a cultural site in Halle in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The composer Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (1710–1784), eldest son of Johann Sebastian Bach, lived here during part of his career; the building now has an exhibition about W. F. Bach and other composers who lived in Halle.
