The Cultural District is a fourteen-square block area in Downtown Pittsburgh, USA bordered by the Allegheny River on the north, Tenth Street on the east, Stanwix Street on the west, and Liberty Avenue on the south. The Cultural District features six theaters offering some 1,500 shows annually, as well as art galleries, restaurants, and retail shops. Its landmarks include: Allegheny Riverfront Park, Benedum Center, Byham Theater, Harris Theater, Heinz Hall, O'Reilly Theater, Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts School, Three Rivers Arts Festival Gallery, Wood Street Galleries, and the August Wilson Center for African American Culture. Major arts organizations based here include: Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Pittsburgh Dance Council, Pittsburgh Opera, Pittsburgh Public Theater, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Bricolage Production Company, and Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company.

The O'Reilly Theater is a 650-seat theater building, opened on December 11, 1999, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Located at 621 Penn Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh's Cultural District, the O'Reilly Theater is actually a three-part building: The 65,000 square feet (6,000 m2) theater (with a 150-seat rehearsal hall), a large parking garage called Theater Square, and the adjacent 23,000 square feet (2,100 m2) Agnes R. Katz Plaza.The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust built the new theater, designed by architect Michael Graves P.A., to create a downtown home for the Pittsburgh Public Theater theatrical company, as well as to create additional venues for theater, music, and other art performances. The O’Reilly venue features a thrust stage surrounded by the audience on three sides.To pay for the $25 million cost of construction, gifts to the project included a naming gift in honor of Dr. Anthony O'Reilly from Mrs. Chryss O'Reilly and several current and past senior executives of the H.J. Heinz Company.The O’Reilly was built by Turner Construction Company, opened on December 11, 1999, with the world premiere of King Hedley II, by the Pulitzer Prize winning playwright August Wilson.

EQT Plaza, formerly known as the CNG Tower and later the Dominion Tower, is a major and distinctive skyscraper in Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The structure was built for Consolidated Natural Gas, a regional energy company. In 1999, CNG was purchased by Dominion Energy, which moved out of the building in 2007. During the summer of 2009, EQT Corporation moved its corporate headquarters and several business units from the 6-story building EQT had built and moved into in 2005, just across the Allegheny River in the North Shore neighborhood of the city.

Heinz Hall is a performing arts center and concert hall located at 600 Penn Avenue in the Cultural District of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Home to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO) and the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra, the 2,676 seat hall presents about 200 performances each year. Originally built in 1927 as Loew's Penn Theatre, the former movie palace was renovated and reopened as Heinz Hall in 1971.

The Benedum Center for the Performing Arts (formerly the Stanley Theatre) is a theater and concert hall located at 237 7th Street in the Cultural District of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Designed by the Philadelphia architectural firm Hoffman-Henon, it was built in 1928 as the Stanley Theatre. The former movie palace was renovated and reopened as the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts in 1987.

The Fulton Building is a structure in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The building was completed 1906 and was designed by architect Grosvenor Atterbury. Construction was funded by industrialist Henry Phipps, and the name of the building is a tribute to noted inventor Robert Fulton.[1] It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. On May 26, 1943 the building hosted America's first night-court for gasoline war ration violators. Since 2001, it has been the home of the city's Renaissance Hotel.

Le Cordon Bleu Institute of Culinary Arts in Pittsburgh was a cooking school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, operating from 1986 to 2012. The institute offered a variety of specialized culinary degrees.

K&L Gates Center is a skyscraper office building located in Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The building (long known as One Oliver Plaza and briefly as FreeMarkets Center and later Ariba Center) was completed in 1968. It has 39 floors, and rises 511 feet (156 meters) above downtown Pittsburgh. The building sits at the intersection of Liberty Avenue, Sixth Avenue and Wood Street. Facing the EQT Plaza tower across the street, it shares a city block with One PNC Plaza, Two PNC Plaza and Three PNC Plaza; this "superblock" was created by the closing of part of Oliver Avenue in the late 1960s. Located across the building is Wood Street Station, a subway station on Pittsburgh's light rail network. In 2007, the international law firm K&L Gates entered into an agreement to become the largest tenant in the building by 2010. In 2009, extensive construction began on the building lobby, the exterior facade of the first two floors and the plazas surrounding the building. The K&L Gates signage replaced Ariba at the top of the building. K&L Gates also removed a sculpture in the building's lobby in order to maintain a consistent decor. The artwork, a large enamel-on-steel mural by Virgil Cantini, has been donated to the University of Pittsburgh by the building's owner. The lobby was reopened in February, 2010. In March 2010, K&L Gates became the building’s largest tenant, having sponsored both the renaming of the building and a revitalization of the building’s ground-floor lobby, exterior entry facade and adjoining plaza.Among the building's artwork is a new, illuminated entry portal connecting the building with the street, with five "Light Columns" created by artist Cerith Wyn Evans illuminating the interior space as well as the outside plaza. These columns are complemented by the neon wall sculpture "Mobius Strip", also by Wyn Evans, at the entry reception desk. The use of light within architectural environments is a cornerstone of Wyn Evans’s practice, with this site-specific piece having been created exclusively for the K&L Gates Center.

The Byham Theater is a landmark building at 101 Sixth Street in the Cultural District of Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. Originally built in 1903 as The Gayety Theater, the former vaudeville house was renovated and reopened as The Byham Theater in 1990. Built in 1903 and opened Halloween night 1904, the then-named Gayety Theater was stage and vaudeville house, and it featured stars such as Ethel Barrymore, Gertrude Lawrence, and Helen Hayes. It was renamed The Fulton in the 1930s when it became a full-time movie theater. The classic horror film Night of the Living Dead, which was filmed in and around Pittsburgh, had its world premiere at the Fulton in 1968. In 1990 the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust bought the theater and refurbished the Fulton as part of its plan for the Cultural District. Carolyn M. Byham and William C. Byham of Pittsburgh made a major naming gift for a 1995 renovation, and it has been the Byham Theater since.

Wood Street Galleries, a visual arts project of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, is a gallery located in Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The gallery occupies the upper floors of the Max Azen company building, above the Wood Street light rail stop.

Wood Street is a station on Pittsburgh Regional Transit's light rail network, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It serves the city's Downtown district and is located at the intersection of Wood Street and Liberty Avenue. Passengers embarking at the Wood Street station may travel free to any of the other stations in the Downtown area– First Avenue, Steel Plaza, Gateway, North Shore and Allegheny. Wood Street Galleries, an art gallery, is located directly above the station entrance. The station itself plays no role in fare collection, which is done on board the train. The stop serves the northern portion of downtown, which features major office buildings such as One PNC Plaza, K&L Gates Center, and EQT Plaza. The Cultural District, which features performance venues such as the Benedum Center, the Byham Theater, and Heinz Hall is located in the blocks just to the north of the station, while the David L. Lawrence Convention Center is within walking distance.

Two PNC Plaza (once known as Equibank Plaza) is a high-rise office building located in the Golden Triangle of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. Constructed in 1976, it is 446 feet (136 m) in height and has 34 stories, making it the tallest of three buildings in PNC Plaza. In order to make room for the structure, a through street called Oliver Avenue was closed.The structure was built by Equibank, one of the Pittsburgh region's three major financial institutions, and was completed four years after and only a few feet away from One PNC Plaza, the home of their major rival (which was then named Pittsburgh National Bank). Equibank went into a sharp decline in the 1980s due to poor investments surrounding a Florida housing bubble and a series of defaulted loans from newly privatized South American companies. Simultaneously, PNC was growing and began expanding into their rival's building next door. PNC eventually not only acquired the building but also a portion of Equibank's operations (the company was merged with the smaller Integra Bank in 1992, Integra was purchased by National City Corp. in 1995, and PNC purchased National City in 2008); PNC and KeyBank currently operate many former Equibank branches.
