Ravensthorpe railway station

The Thornhill power station generated and supplied electricity to the town of Dewsbury and the wider regional area from 1902 to 1982, and again from 1998. The first generating station on the site was owned and operated by the Yorkshire Electric Power Company. Following nationalisation of the British electricity supply industry in 1948 Thornhill power station was operated by a succession of state owned bodies. The power station was redeveloped with new plant in 1915, 1925, 1932–37 and 1950–54. The coal-fired steam station was decommissioned in 1982, and was subsequently demolished. A gas turbine power station on the site was commissioned in 1998.

The River Spen or Spen Beck, in West Yorkshire, England is a tributary of the River Calder. It rises north of Cleckheaton, runs through Liversedge and flows into the Calder to the south of Dewsbury at Ravensthorpe. The average rainfall for the river valley of between 600–1000mm per annum when combined with the steep narrow river channel, makes the Spen susceptible to regular flooding. It is referred to in the name of the local parliamentary constituency, Batley and Spen, to account for the villages and suburbs of Batley in the Spen Valley, such as Liversedge and Gomersal.

The Dewsbury Bus Museum is a museum in Ravensthorpe, West Yorkshire, England. Opened to the public in September 1989, it is owned and operated by the West Riding Omnibus Museum Trust, a registered charity, and is run entirely by volunteer effort.It is home to the only two surviving Guy Wulfrunian double deck buses and several other West Riding Automobile Company vehicles as well as others from Yorkshire Woollen District Transport Co, Yorkshire Traction Company, West Yorkshire PTE, Huddersfield and Halifax Corporations and local independent J. Wood of Mirfield.

Crow Nest Park is a Green Flag awarded public park located in the Dewsbury Moor area of Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England. Opened to the public in 1893, the park originated on the grounds on a country house estate dating from the 16th century. It was created to bring a feel of the countryside into what was a heavily industrial area. The park is situated on a hillside and offers views across the surrounding towns and countryside. Attractions include an adventure playground, an ornamental lake, formal lawns, a walled wildflower garden, sports facilities, a greenhouse and a café.

Grade II listed buildings in Boothroyd include the church of St John, the war memorial in Crow Nest Park, and the gate piers and gates to Crow Nest Park.

Dewsbury Moor is a district of Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it lies to the west of the Dewsbury town centre. The population is around 5,650. Crime rates are higher than the national average.Dewsbury Moor Amateur Rugby league Football Club is based on Heckmondwike Road and has three playing fields nearby. The rugby club has turned out several notable rugby league professionals including Ryan Sheridan, Matt Diskin, Dean Lawford, Sam Burgess, Luke Burgess, George Burgess and Tom Burgess. There are two schools, Knowles Hill Infant and Nursery School on Knowles Hill Road, and Westmoor Junior School on Church Lane.The area was at the centre of national media and public attention in early 2008, when nine-year-old Shannon Matthews disappeared from near her home, in Dewsbury Moor, on the afternoon of 19 February 2008. After a 24-day search, she was found alive on 14 March 2008 at a flat in Batley Carr. Michael Donavan, the man whose flat she was found in, was (along with Shannon's mother Karen) later jailed for eight years for abduction and false imprisonment.

Westborough High School is a mixed secondary school located in Westborough, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England. It is situated on Oxford Road, and shares its grounds with St John Fisher Catholic High School. The school was founded in the 1960s and has had close links with the other nearby secondary schools. The current (2013) headteacher of Westborough is Jennifer Napper The school admits pupils from the ages of 11–16. Its catchment areas are Ravensthorpe, Savile Town and the local areas of Boothroyd. Over the past 5 years the school's music department, in the new performing arts block at Westborough, has developed a public profile with concerts performed by pupils in the summer and winter. Bands originating at Westborough are the Samba Band and Drumline, which have performed in Batley Park, York and on Sky TV during a rugby match.Westborough High School achieved the third successive year of record rises in GCSE results, with 54% of pupils gaining 5 or more GCSE passes at A* to C, and 34% of these being in English and Maths, a 6% rise on last year, exceeding a 30% target set by the Government.In 2011 Birkdale High School was formally closed, with Westborough High School taking over its site. Some pupils from Birkdale transferred to the Westborough campus immdemiately. However the former Birkdale High School campus was still used to educate a number of pupils under Westborough High School management, and renamed as the Halifax Road Campus. The Halifax Road Campus closed down when the final set of year 11 students finished their GCSEs in 2014.

Thornhill Lees is a district of Dewsbury, which is a town within the borough of Kirklees in the county of West Yorkshire, England. The district lies to the south of Dewsbury Town Centre, between Savile Town and Thornhill. Thornhill Lees is served by two schools: Thornhill Lees Infant & Nursery School and Headfield Junior School. It is also consisted of the ‘Saint Anne’s House’Hector Munro Chadwick, a philologist, was born in Thornhill Lees.

St John Fisher Catholic Voluntary Academy (formerly St John Fisher Catholic High School) is a Roman Catholic Mixed Comprehensive in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England. St John Fisher was opened in 1958 under the trusteeship of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Leeds to serve Catholics living in Dewsbury, Batley and the surrounding areas. It was reorganised in 1974 and the Sixth Form was added in 1979. The school, an 11–19 mixed Roman Catholic secondary school, has about 1200 pupils on roll, including 200 in the sixth form. It has also been a specialist Sports College since 2005. As of 2019 the school's headteacher is Richard Williams until August 2020 when Sarah Wilkinson will become head but now as of 2022 Jackie Rose is the temporary Head Teacher .

Whitley Lower is a village and former civil parish in Kirklees, West Yorkshire England. The parish church, dedicated to St Mary and St Michael, is part of the united benefice of Thornhill and Whitley which also includes Briestfield. The church was Grade II listed in 1985. In 1891 the civil parish had a population of 879.
