Brighton Palace Pier

The city of Brighton and Hove in England has an extensive system of Victorian sewers running under the town, and a large modern storm drain under the beach.The system is connected to a number of outfalls at the popular bathing beach, including emergency storm-water outfalls which could still release raw sewage until the 1990s. One of these may be seen in the stone groyne adjacent to the Palace Pier. During the late 1990s a massive storm water collection drain – wide enough to drive a vehicle through – was constructed along the beach, using tunnelling machines similar to those used to cut the Channel Tunnel. These were lowered to the tunnel depth via several deep shafts sunk at intervals along the beach, which were subsequently capped and covered. Pebbles were replaced on top of the shafts to return the beach to its former appearance and public use. The company responsible for the sewers, Southern Water, runs tours for the public during the summer and Brighton Festival.

The Royal Albion Hotel (originally the Albion Hotel) is a 3-star hotel in the seaside resort of Brighton, part of the English city of Brighton and Hove. Built on the site of a house belonging to Richard Russell, a local doctor whose advocacy of sea-bathing and seawater drinking helped to make Brighton fashionable in the 18th century, it has been extended several times, although it experienced a period of rundown and closure in the early 20th century. A fire in 1998 caused serious damage, but the hotel was restored. The Classical-style building is in three parts of different sizes and dates but similar appearances. Large pilasters and columns of various orders feature prominently. Amon Henry Wilds, an important and prolific local architect, took the original commission on behalf of promoter John Colbatch. Another local entrepreneur, Harry Preston, restored the hotel to its former high status after buying it in poor condition. The building took on its present three-wing form in 1963. The original part of the building was listed at Grade II* by English Heritage for its architectural and historical importance, and its western extension is listed separately at the lower Grade II.

The Wellesbourne (also spelt Wellsbourne, and occasionally Whalesbone) is a lost river which originally flowed into the English Channel in Brighton, part of the English seaside city of Brighton and Hove. It flowed southwards from Patcham, a village on the edge of the city, down the steep-sided valley along which the A23 London Road and the railway line to London now run. It was always an intermittent stream (a winterbourne) which flowed mostly in the winter and after periods of significant rainfall, and after a waterworks was built in 1889 it permanently stopped flowing.

SEA LIFE Brighton is an aquarium attraction in the English city of Brighton. Opened as Brighton Aquarium in 1872, it is the oldest operating aquarium in the world. The attraction was bought by Sea Life in 1991.

The Brighton Wheel, also known during its planning and construction phase as the Brighton O and the Wheel of Excellence, was a transportable Ferris wheel installation which operated from October 2011 until May 2016 on the seafront in Brighton, part of the English city of Brighton and Hove. Situated below the East Cliff near Brighton Pier and built with private funding, its promoters anticipated that several hundred thousand visitors per year would experience the 12-minute ride. The wheel's location in a conservation area with many residential buildings proved controversial.

Revenge is an LGBT nightclub in Brighton, England. The venue was the first sizable dedicated gay club to open in the city, which is now known for its gay community and is recognised as the "unofficial gay capital of the UK".

The ABC Cinema (originally the Savoy Cinema Theatre) is a former cinema in Brighton, part of the English seaside city of Brighton and Hove. It also operated under the Cannon and Virgin brands briefly in the 1980s and 1990s. It was built in 1930, initially for Savoy Cinemas; but when that group became part of the new Associated British Cinemas (ABC) circuit later that year, it was redesigned by ABC's own architect William R. Glen and became the group's first major cinema. It was also the second largest ABC ever built, and the largest cinema in Brighton based on seating capacity. Prominently sited, with a tall, curving entrance façade on East Street in The Lanes and another entrance on the Grand Junction Road facing the seafront and Palace Pier, it was one of Brighton's most important cinemas for much of the 20th century and was chosen as the venue for the world premiere of Brighton Rock in 1948. After closure in January 2000 the building was split up; part is now a casino, another section is a bar, and a restaurant formerly occupied another section. The building is on Brighton and Hove City Council's local list of heritage assets.

9 Pool Valley is a late 18th-century house and shop in the centre of Brighton, part of the English city of Brighton and Hove. Built as a bakery and shop for a local family, with two floors of living accommodation above, it later passed to another Brighton family who kept up the baking tradition until the mid-20th century. Since then it has had various commercial uses. Described as "one of the most famous surviving early buildings" in Brighton and "a charming relic", the exterior is clad in distinctive black glazed mathematical tiles. English Heritage has listed it at Grade II* for its architectural and historical importance.

The Brighton Marathon is an annual marathon in Brighton and Hove, England. It was first held on 18 April 2010 and has usually been held in April every year since. The inaugural Brighton Marathon was set up by former international athlete Tim Hutchings and local athlete Tom Naylor.

The Old Steine () is a thoroughfare in central Brighton, East Sussex, and is the southern terminus of the A23. The southern end leads to Marine Parade, the Brighton seafront and the Palace Pier. The Old Steine is also the site of a number of City Centre bus stops for Brighton buses. The Royal Pavilion is located immediately to the north of the Old Steine.

Quadrophenia Alley is located between number 10 and 11 East Street Brighton and was the location for a scene in the 1979 film Quadrophenia. The Alley has become a shrine to the Mod movement, and people come from all over the world to find this alleyway. The cult film was set in Brighton in 1964, the period of the Mods and Rockers. In May 1964, masses of Mods and Rockers descended from London onto Brighton Beach, resulting in a mass fight that shocked the nation. It ended with people throwing bins, deckchairs, and stones. Several people were jailed after the incident; many were arrested and put in cells under Brighton Town Hall, now the Old Police Cells Museum. This riot was the inspiration for Quadrophenia, starring Phil Daniels, Leslie Ash and Sting, depicting the clash, and much of it was filmed on location in the city. The narrow and easily overlooked Quadrophenia Alley was the setting of an escape from the police and a romantic encounter in the film. Quadrophenia Alley, as it has become known, featured during a key scene in the film. People actually come from all over the world to find this alleyway, where two lovers escape the police and fall through a doorway into a yard. The alley has become a real shrine to Mods. The Alley is often covered in Mod-related graffiti and has become one of the most visited tourist attractions in the town.

The Old Steine Gardens in Brighton, Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, England, adjacent to the Old Steine thoroughfare, are the site of several monuments of national historic significance.
