De Hoop, Stiens

Stiens is a town in the municipality of Leeuwarden, Netherlands. As of January 2017, the town has a population of about 7,545. Between 1944 and 2018, it was the capital of the municipality of Leeuwarderadeel.

De Kleine Molen (English: The Little Mill) is a smock mill in Stiens, Friesland, Netherlands which was built in 1913 and moved in 1988. The mill is the smallest of its type in the Netherlands. In working order, it is listed as a Rijksmonument.

The village of Britsum is located in the municipality of Leeuwarden (province of Friesland), in the Netherlands. Britsum was built on an artificial bank (terp) running along the eastern side of the former Middelzee. The church, built around 1300, is also located on this bank. It had a population of about 910 citizens in January 2017.

Martenastate (Martena estate) in Cornjum, Netherlands, is an ancestral estate first owned by the noble family Martena, also written as van Martena, or even Martna (i.e., Martena without an e). This family belonged to the Dutch nobility (hoofdelingen). The building is now a museum. The first mention of a stins at the Martenastate in Cornjum dates back to 1468, when the family Martena lived there. The last male ancestor of the Martena line was Doecke van Martena, who died in 1605.After 1605, the Martenastate in Cornjum was owned and occupied by a succession of other noble families: the Aylva family, the Burmania family, and the Vegelin van Claerbergen family. On December 28, 1894 the last owner-occupant of Martena State in Cornjum, jonkheer Duco Martena van Burmania Vegelin van Claerbergen, died. He left the state to the church of Cornjum. In 1899, the house on the Martenastate was demolished, after which the present Martenastate was built, designed in neo-renaissance style by architect Pyter de Groot.There is a picture of the original Martenastate, Cornjum, in the Fries Museum (Leeuwarden), drawn by Jacobus Stellingwerf, dated 1722.

Leeuwarden Air Base (Dutch: Vliegbasis Leeuwarden) is a military airbase used by the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) - Dutch: Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu), (IATA: LWR, ICAO: EHLW). The airbase was formerly one of the two F-16 Fighting Falcon bases of the RNLAF. The airbase lies northwest of the capital of Friesland, Leeuwarden. Leeuwarden Air Base is also one of the three military airbases (together with Gilze-Rijen Air Base and Volkel Air Base) that organise the twice-in-three-years Luchtmachtdagen ('Air Force Days') of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, consisting of air shows and static exhibits. In 2006, 2008, 2011 and 2016 Leeuwarden Air Base hosted these public demonstration days.

Exercise Frisian Flag Is a major NATO multinational aerial exercise, held annually at Leeuwarden Air Base, Netherlands, over the North Sea and in the skies above the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark.Missions flown during Frisian Flag included defensive and offensive air missions, protection of friendly aircraft and Close Air Support (CAS) strikes. Some missions call for Forward Air Controller units coordinate with fighter elements to attack ground targets. Surface-to-air missile systems enabled realistic exercise scenarios missions.A combat search and rescue element has been added to recent Frisian Flag exercises. Usually involving the rescue of downed air crew by ground forces with the assistance of fighters and helicopters.

Hijum is a village in Leeuwarden municipality in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 385 in January 2017.

De Balkendsterpoldermolen is a smock mill in Alde Leie, Friesland, Netherlands which was built in 1844. The mill has been restored to working order and is designated as being held in reserve. It is listed as a Rijksmonument.
