Ormskirk

The Battle of Ormskirk was fought on 20 August 1644 during the First English Civil War. It was a decisive victory for the Parliamentarian force commanded by Major-General Sir John Meldrum over the Royalist force commanded by Lord Byron.

West Lancashire was a rural district from 1894 to 1974 in Lancashire, England. It was created with other rural districts in 1894, based on the Ormskirk rural sanitary district. It was expanded in 1932 by the abolition of the Sefton Rural District. The district was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 and the area was divided as follows: The parishes of Aintree, Ince Blundell, Maghull, Melling, Netherton, Sefton and Thornton, most of the parish of Lydiate, and Little Altcar from the parish of Altcar, became part of the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton in Merseyside. The parish of Simonswood became part of the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley in Merseyside. The remainder of the former rural district became part of the new district of West Lancashire in Lancashire.

The Church of St Peter and St Paul is in the market town of Ormskirk, Lancashire, England. Dating from no later than the 12th century, it is one of only three churches in England to have both a tower and spire, and the only one to have them both at the same end of the church. It is an active Anglican parish church in the Diocese of Liverpool. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building.

Ormskirk railway station in Ormskirk, Lancashire, England, is a cross-platform interchange between Merseyrail services from Liverpool Central and Northern Trains services from Preston on the Ormskirk branch line, 12+3⁄4 miles (20.5 km) northeast of Liverpool. The station building and three arch road bridge are both Grade II listed structures.

St. Bede's Catholic High School is a Roman Catholic, co-educational secondary school located on St. Anne's Road, Ormskirk, Lancashire, North West England. As a Catholic community school, it gives priority to parishioners' children and those living within the LEA. The current headteacher is Mr P Denton, who replaced Mr Chris Horrocks in 2018.

Ormskirk was an urban district in the county of Lancashire from 1894 to 1974. It was named after the town of Ormskirk, which constituted its main settlement. The district was merged with Lathom and Burscough Urban District in 1931, taking in the villages of Burscough, Newburgh and Lathom. It was abolished in 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, merging with Skelmersdale and Holland, part of West Lancashire Rural District and part of Wigan Rural District to form West Lancashire District Council.

Dolan bikes also owns the brands Alpina, Cougar and ADV. Terry Dolan started working for Harry Quinn Cycles in 1977 and in 1980 he set up his own business in Walton Liverpool when Harry Quinn closed. Dolan Bikes are famous for their track bikes and riders have won many Olympic medals on their bikes. The Alpina bars and wheels have also been used on many winning bikes – Olympic and European/World Championships. Medal winners on Dolan bikes include Chris Hoy, Bradley Wiggins, Katie Archibald and Mark Cavendish. Dolan builds a range of road bikes with for Road, Gravel, TT and Endurance models.

Tower Hill Water Tower is a disused water tower and local landmark in Ormskirk, Lancashire, England. Situated on the east side of Tower Hill, it was built between 1853-4 for Ormskirk Local Board of Health, and is reputed to be the oldest remaining water tower in the country. It was awarded Grade II* listed status in 1976, and is on the Heritage at Risk Register. The area immediately surrounding the tower has been used as allotments since the mid 20th century.
