RAF Blakelaw

Firfield Community School was an 11 to 18 mixed, community secondary school in the Blakelaw ward of Newcastle upon Tyne, in the English county of Tyne and Wear. It received prominence in the media as the first school to relaunch under the Fresh Start programme; a government initiative where failing schools reopen with renovations and new names, staff and headteachers. Firfield reopened in September 1998, replacing the failed Blakelaw Comprehensive School, which had been considered by Channel 4 and the government to be "the worst school in Britain". The school closed in 2002 after a financial deficit and decline in student numbers.

Kenton Bar is a housing estate, that is part of Kenton Ward [1] in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It is situated immediately west of North Kenton and to the north of Cragston Park and Cowgate. The estate was designed by the Ryder and Yates architectural practice. All buildings have a distinctive flat roof design. Many have white or cream walls, which in many cases owe their colour to crushed sea-shells attached to the rendering while it was still wet. Construction of the estate began shortly after 1966 and comprises terraced houses, bungalows, and flats. The estate is roughly crescent-shaped and surrounds the western and northern sides of Kenton School's playing fields. Hazeldene Avenue runs around the outer perimeter of the estate and, at both ends, provides the estate's only vehicular access and egress. Ryal Walk, Studdon Walk and Hartburn Walk are the main pedestrian thoroughfares, running along the inner side of the "crescent". The estate was designed in such a way that almost every pair of dwellings on the estate, apart from the single terrace of town-houses on the southern side of Hazeldene Avenue near its junction with Kenton Lane, is linked by a pedestrian route, without the need to cross any road. The Newcastle Western Bypass, part of the A1, runs along the north-western edge of the estate and is separated from Hazeldene Avenue by a fence and earth embankment.

Kenton School is an Academy located in Newcastle upon Tyne, in Tyne and Wear, England. It is situated near Kenton Lane in Kenton and provides education for students in Key Stage 3 – 5, specifically Years 7 – 11. Kenton School is recognized as a specialist Arts and Technology School and has achieved several notable accolades, including a Gold Artsmark from the Arts Council of England and a Sportsmark in 2008. The school's sixth form building is utilized by both sixth formers and students attending the main academy, as well as serving as a local community college known as Kenton College. In a 2012 Ofsted report, the school was rated as Good, a slight decline from its previous Outstanding status obtained in 2009.

Blakelaw and North Fenham is a civil parish in the City of Newcastle upon Tyne in Tyne and Wear, England. It is north west of the city centre, and is entirely surrounded by the unparished area of Newcastle upon Tyne. It covers the areas of Blakelaw, Cowgate and North Fenham, and has a population of 6,468, decreasing slightly to 6,452 at the 2011 Census.

Blakelaw is an electoral ward situated in the West End of the city of Newcastle upon Tyne in North East England. The population of the ward is 11,186, which is 4.6% of the city's population. Car ownership in the area is 50.6%: this is lower than the city average of 54.7%, increasing to 11,507 at the 2011 Census. House prices in this area average at £114,000 (Feb 2007). Blakelaw was developed in the early part of the 20th century in order to meet demand for more housing in the North East. During the Second World War a secret war centre was built in the old quarry and extended many levels below ground. This was the headquarters for No 13 Group, who played a vital part in the Battle of Britain. Five posts have been installed in Blakelaw Park as part of a 'listening trail' which tells the story of the life of the bunkers and people who worked in them.In terms of the Demographics of Blakelaw, it is very similar to many other parts of Newcastle. For age groups, 26.3% were 17 years old and under, 59.2% of its population was between the ages of 18 and 64, and 14.5% were over 65. In terms of Ethnicity it was 87.2% White, 6.8% Asian, 3.4% Black and 1.5% mixed which is a similar ethnic make up to quite a few parts of Newcastle but significantly less diverse as parts of the West End.

Cowgate is a locality in the north-west of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It lies 2.8 miles Northwest of the City Centre. Initially it was in the Kenton ward up until 2018 which it was in the Blakelaw ward. The name is believed to come from the gate the local farmers would use from the Nuns Moor area to herd their livestock to the Newcastle cattle market. The Cowgate estate was built in the 1920s.In 2007 the Index of Multiple Deprivation identified the southern part of the estate as the most deprived area in the city and the 28th most deprived in England.Carricks Bakery, which was later acquired by Greggs, was located in the area. The bakery was closed in 2005, and the work was transferred to other facilities in Newcastle.

Kingston Park is a suburb of Newcastle upon Tyne, about 4 miles (6 km) north west of the city centre. It is home to several large retailers, the largest being one of Tesco's flagship stores—at 11,055 square metres (119,000 sq ft) which was also the largest supermarket in the United Kingdom for one period of time. Kingston Park is served by Kingston Park station on the Tyne and Wear Metro.

North Kenton is a suburban housing estate in the City of Newcastle upon Tyne, in Tyne and Wear, England, located north west of the city centre and to the east of Kingston Park. North Kenton is a well known area in Newcastle, known to have a strong community spirit. Once a month, the local tenants and residents group known as North Kenton Tenants and Residents Association, work all year round to create events for the whole community. In August every year they plan the annual Family Fun Day with help funding from local business and Newcastle City Council. In 2016 North Kenton Tenants and Residents Association launched their website The area includes a refurbished park, and a sports centre. Buses operate to West Denton, Newcastle General Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne and the MetroCentre in Gateshead.Primary education is provided at Mountfield School and St Cuthberts Primary School; Kenton School is the local high school.

Kingston Park is a Tyne and Wear Metro station, serving the suburb of Kingston Park, Newcastle upon Tyne in Tyne and Wear, England. It joined the network on 15 September 1985.

Kenton is a suburb and electoral ward in the north west of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It borders the Town Moor and Gosforth. Kenton also has close road links to Newcastle Airport. The ward population at the 2011 Census was 11,605.The area borders Kingston Park, notable for the Kingston Park shopping centre, as well as Kenton School, one of the largest schools in the UK with approximately 2000 students. The nearest Tyne and Wear Metro station is Fawdon, with stations at Kingston Park and Bank Foot the other side of the A1 Western bypass. Nearby places include Fawdon and Cowgate.

Slatyford is situated in the West End of Newcastle upon Tyne, England, and houses the Stagecoach North East depot for local bus services throughout Newcastle. The depot was previously used by Newcastle Busways. Alongside the depot, following demolition of an existing site, a retail complex has been built, centred on a Wickes store. Slatyford is also known by the slang name of 'Slaty'. the park is called slatypark The Tyneside Badminton Centre, which opened in 2013 is located in the area. It currently has three high-quality courts with plans to expand with the addition of a further six badminton-specific courts.

Fenham is an area of the west-end of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It lies to the west of the city centre, and is bounded on the north and east by a large area of open land known as the Town Moor. To the south lies Benwell, West Denton lies to the west, Blakelaw and Cowgate to the north, and Arthur's Hill and Spital Tongues to the east. As of 2018, the area covers two wards of Newcastle: Wingrove Ward, and West Fenham Ward. Fenham grew up as a separate township from Newcastle, lying on the western outskirts of the city. Much of the land originally belonged to religious charitable institutions, and there are covenant restrictions on the building of any licensed premises.
