Stokenham

Chillington is a village in the Stokenham civil parish of South Hams in Devon, England, with a population of 877 as of the 2011 Census. It is located within the South Devon AONB, with a local economy which mainly serves residents, although it also has a healthcare centre which serves the surrounding area.

Slapton Castle is an Iron Age hill fort situated close to Slapton in Devon, England. The fort is on a promontory on the eastern side of a hilltop at approximately 65 metres (213 ft) above sea level, overlooking Slapton Ley.

It stands at grid reference SX822420 at the southern end of Slapton Sands, a narrow strip of land and shingle beach which separates the freshwater lake of Slapton Ley from Start Bay and carries the A379 coastal road north to Dartmouth.

Slapton Ley is a lake on the south coast of Devon, England, separated from Start Bay by a shingle beach, known as Slapton Sands. Slapton Ley is the largest natural freshwater lake in south-west England being 1.5 miles (2.4 km) long and has two sections; the Lower Ley and the Higher Ley. The ley is fed by streams and a small river, The Gara, that flows into the Higher Ley. The site is a National Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Geological Conservation Review site. The nature reserve covers over 200 hectares (490 acres).The A379 between the Ley and the sea runs along the shingle ridge and was rebuilt after damage by coastal erosion in the early 2000s.

Ford is a hamlet about 6 miles from Stoke Fleming, in the civil parish of Chivelstone, in the South Hams district, in the county of Devon, England. Ford contains around a dozen houses and has a ruined chapel. In 1870-72 it had a population of 64.

Beesands is a small settlement located midway between Hallsands and Torcross on the coast of Start Bay in South Devon, England. It is best known as a tourist destination, but is still a fishing village that concentrates mainly on crab and lobster fishing through Britannia Fisheries. There is an Anglican chapel dedicated to St Andrew in the village. Behind the beach, north of the settlement is a freshwater lake known as Beesands Ley, smaller but similar in ecology to Slapton Ley about a kilometre to the north. Keith Richards' family regularly spent holidays at Beesands during the 1950s. Keith Richards and Mick Jagger's first public performance was at The Cricket Inn in the village.

Exercise Tiger, or Operation Tiger, was one of a series of large-scale rehearsals for the D-Day invasion of Normandy, which took place in April 1944 on Slapton Sands in Devon. Coordination and communication problems resulted in friendly fire injuries during the exercise, and an Allied convoy positioning itself for the landing was attacked by E-boats of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine, resulting in the deaths of at least 749 American servicemen.Because of the impending invasion of Normandy, the incident was under the strictest secrecy at the time and was only minimally reported afterwards.

Sherford is a village and former civil parish and manor, now in the parish of Frogmore and Sherford, in the South Hams district, in the county of Devon, England. It is situated about 2 1/2 miles east of the town of Kingsbridge. It should not be confused with the new town Sherford to be built on the outskirts of Plymouth, about 18 miles to the north-west. The parish church is dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours. In 1961 the parish had a population of 258. On 1 April 1986 the parish was abolished and merged with parts of South Pool and Charleton to form "Frogmore and Sherford". Sherford was recorded in the Domesday Book as Sireford/Sirefort/Sireforda.

Frogmore is a village in the civil parish of Frogmore and Sherford in the South Hams district of the county of Devon, England.The origin of the place-name is from the Old English words frogga and mere meaning pool frequented by frogs.The village is located at the head of Frogmore Creek, an arm of the Kingsbridge Estuary. It was once a small and thriving port, but is now more popular with tourists and horses. A regatta is held every year in August; there is a village hall, one pub and a traditional bakery.

Slapton is a village and civil parish in the South Hams district of Devon, England. It is located near the A379 road between Kingsbridge and Dartmouth, and lies within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The nearby beach is Slapton Sands; despite its name, it is not a sandy beach but a shingle one. In 1901 the population of the civil parish was 527, decreasing to 473 in 2001, and decreasing further to 434 at the 2011 census. The parish is surrounded clockwise from the north by the parishes of Blackawton, Strete, Stokenham and East Allington.

Frogmore and Sherford is a civil parish in the South Hams district, in the county of Devon, England. Within it are the villages of Frogmore and Sherford. The parish was created in 1986 from Sherford and parts of South Pool and Charleton. In 2011 it had a population of 440.
