Beaumont Cut was a 1-kilometre-long (1,090 yd) canal linking Beaumont Quay, in the parish of Beaumont-cum-Moze, Tendring, Essex, England, with Hamford Water and the North Sea. It was opened in 1832 but fell into disuse and was closed at some time in the 1930s.

The Sokens is a name often used to describe the area containing the traditional parishes of Thorpe, Kirby and Walton, which now lie in Tendring district in the Naze area of northeast Essex. The significance of this grouping is now mostly historical. The name 'Soken' is derived from the Saxon 'soc' or 'soca', signifying immunity, peculiar privileges and jurisdiction. It refers in particular to the power to administer justice within itself, and likewise the circuit within which such power was exercised. Among others was the claim that no bailiff except the lord's bailiff could arrest any person within the parish.

Skipper's Island is a 94.3-hectare (233-acre) nature reserve north of Kirby-le-Soken in Essex, England. It is owned and managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust.The highest part of the island has thorn thickets, separated by grassy rides. The lowest land is saltmarsh, and there is also extensive rough pasture with brackish pools. Flora include sea hog's fennel and lax-flowered sea-lavender, and there are breeding birds such as shelducks and oystercatchers.The island is connected to the mainland by two causeways, and access is only by prior arrangement with the trust.

Great Oakley is a village and civil parish in the Tendring district of Essex, England. It is a long, narrow parish lying on the top of a low (25 m) ridge south of Ramsey Creek which drains northeast towards Harwich. The parish extends south to Oakley Creek, a branch of Hamford Water, where stood Great Oakley Dock, now disused. The church, dedicated to All Saints, contains some Norman work. The living thereof is in the gift of St John's College, Cambridge. The village is served by All Saints Great Oakley C of E Primary School.A public house called The Three Cups – after the emblem of the Salters Company – used to be situated in the village, indicating that there were salt works in the area. The parish still contains a large chemical works (the Great Oakley Works), operated by EPC-UK, which produces the cetane improver 2-ethyl hexyl nitrate, and also provides specialist explosives handling services.The Village now has only one public house, called The Maybush Inn, which in 2016 was reopened as a Community Pub.The Village has a men's football team Great Oakley FC which plays in the Colchester and District Sunday League.

Beaumont-cum-Moze (grid reference TM175250) is a civil parish in the Tendring district of Essex, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 352, reducing to 339 at the 2011 Census. The parish includes the hamlets of Beaumont and Moze Cross. The place-name 'Beaumont' was originally Fulanpettæ in a Saxon charter of circa 995, and Fulepet in the Domesday Book of 1086, meaning 'foul pit'. By 1175-80 it had become Bealmont, meaning 'beautiful hill', a very early example of successful rebranding. The place-name 'Moze' is first attested in the Domesday Book, where it appears as Mosa. This is from the Old English mos meaning 'marsh' or 'moss'.Julian Byng, 1st Viscount Byng of Vimy lived at Thorpe Hall in Thorpe-le-Soken and is buried at the 11th-century Parish Church of St Leonard in Beaumont-cum-Moze.Beaumont Cut is a derelict canal in the parish.

Kirby-le-Soken is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Frinton and Walton, in the Tendring district of North East Essex, England, which is mainly agricultural, but increasingly residential, near Frinton-on-Sea and Walton-on-the-Naze. In 2018 the built-up-area had an estimated population of 1387. In 1931 the parish had a population of 836. On 1 April 1934, the parish was abolished to form "Frinton and Walton", part also went to Thorpe-le-Soken.Kirby-le-Soken is in an area called The Sokens, isolated from Kirby Cross, Frinton-on-Sea, and Walton-on-the-Naze by fields.

Comarques is an 18th-century country house in Thorpe-le-Soken, Essex, England. It has been attributed to the architect, Sir Robert Taylor. Named after Captain Comarque, a Huguenot refugee who owned the estate in the early 18th century, the house is in the Queen Anne style. The author Arnold Bennett lived at Comarques between 1913 and 1921. There is a tradition that Clement Attlee lived at the house as a child, but Historic England does not support this claim. Comarques is a Grade II* listed building.

Kirby Cross is a village in Tendring district, Essex, England. It is situated near to Kirby-le-Soken and Frinton-on-Sea. Historically, Kirby Cross was a hamlet within the parish of Kirby-le-Soken, but since 1934 both settlements have been part of Frinton and Walton civil parish.It is the location of Kirby Cross railway station on the Sunshine Coast branch of the Great Eastern Main Line.

It is 65 miles 7 chains (104.7 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street. Its three-letter station code is TLS. To the west the preceding station is Weeley and to the east the following stations are Clacton-on-Sea on the single-stop Clacton branch or Kirby Cross on the branch to Walton-on-the-Naze. The station was opened by the Tendring Hundred Railway, a subsidiary of the Great Eastern Railway, in 1866. It is currently managed by Greater Anglia, which also operates all trains serving the station.
