Barboursville, Virginia

Barboursville is the ruin of the mansion of James Barbour, located in Barboursville, Virginia. He was the former U.S. Senator, U.S. Secretary of War, and Virginia Governor. It is now within the property of Barboursville Vineyards. The house was designed by Thomas Jefferson, president of the United States and Barbour's friend and political ally. The ruin is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Burlington is a historic plantation house located near Barboursville, Orange County, Virginia. The main house was built in 1851–1852, and is a two-story, three-bay, T-shaped residence with a shallow hipped roof in the Greek Revival style. It has a traditional I-house plan with an ell addition. The front facade features a portico with six Greek Ionic order columns with a plain entablature. It has a Jeffersonian Chinese lattice balcony cantilevered on the second floor. The exterior and interior detailing is derived almost entirely from Asher Benjamin's The Practical House Carpenter, 1830 edition. The house was built by James Barbour Newman, nephew of Governor James Barbour.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Castle Hill (Virginia) is an historic, privately owned, 600-acre (243 ha) plantation located at the foot of the Southwest Mountains in Albemarle County, Virginia, near Monticello and the city of Charlottesville, and is recognized by the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places. Castle Hill was the home of Dr. Thomas Walker (1715–1794) and his wife, Mildred Thornton Meriwether (widow of Nicholas Meriwether III). Walker was a close friend and the physician of Peter Jefferson, and later the guardian of young Thomas Jefferson after his father's death.

Rosena is an unincorporated community in Albemarle County, Virginia. It lies at the intersection of Rt. 20 and Rt. 640, within the Stony Point community. The sole service is a single general store, "Grand Junction," which long did business under the name of "Bobbi's." As of 1904, the United States Geological Survey designated it as a "post village," indicating that at that time there was a post office. And as of 1910, the population was great enough to warrant a stop by the "traveling library stations" of the Virginia State Library.

It was built about 1856, and is a two-story, three-bay frame I-house dwelling in the Greek Revival style. It features decorative corner pilasters, a peaked door and window lintels, and a two-layer exterior frieze on all four elevations.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

It includes a variety of large farms, historic villages, and crossroads communities. The area is known primarily for its large and imposing Federal, Greek Revival, and Georgian Revival plantation houses and country estates. It features a broad range of architecture—mainly domestic and farm-related—from the late 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
