Compiègne

The siege of Compiègne (1430) was conducted by Duke Philip III of Burgundy after the town of Compiègne had refused to transfer allegiance to him under the terms of a treaty with Charles VII of France. The siege is perhaps best known for Joan of Arc's capture by Burgundian troops while accompanying an Armagnac force during a skirmish outside the town on 23 May 1430. Although this was otherwise a minor siege, both politically and militarily, and ultimately ended in a defeat for the Burgundians, the capture of Joan of Arc was an important event of the Hundred Years' War.

The Musée Antoine Vivenel is the municipal museum of the city of Compiègne in northern France, located at 2, rue d'Austerlitz, 60200 Compiègne. It was founded in 1839, following an important gift by Antoine Vivenel, architect and art collector. The museum has one of the largest collections of Greek ceramics in France after the Louvre, some of which come from the collections of Lucien Bonaparte, Napoleon's brother and Prince of Canino, in Italy. The museum also benefits from the deposits of sculpted blocks from the Gallo-Roman temple of Champlieu located about twenty kilometers south-east of the city. The museum also has Egyptian artifacts (including a children's mummy) and artifacts of ancient Etruscans.

The Hôtel de Ville (French pronunciation: [otɛl də vil], City Hall) is a municipal building in Compiègne, Oise, northern France, standing on Place de l'Hôtel de Ville. The building was designated a monument historique by the French government in 1840.

Compiègne was one of three seats of royal government, the others being Versailles and Fontainebleau. It is located in Compiègne in the Oise department and is open to the public.

Communauté d'agglomération de la Région de Compiègne et de la Basse Automne is the communauté d'agglomération, an intercommunal structure, centred on the city of Compiègne. It is located in the Oise department, in the Hauts-de-France region, northern France. Created in 2017, its seat is in Compiègne. Its area is 263.8 km2. Its population was 83,159 in 2019, of which 40,615 in Compiègne proper.

Margny-lès-Compiègne (French pronunciation: [maʁɲi lɛ kɔ̃pjɛɲ], literally Margny near Compiègne) is a commune in the Oise department in northern France.

The Royallieu-Compiègne was an internment and deportation camp located in the north of France in the city of Compiègne, open from June 1941 to August 1944. French resistance fighters and Jews were among some of the prisoners held in this camp. It is estimated that around 40,000 people were deported from the Royallieu-Compiègne camp to other camps in the German territory of the time. A memorial of the camp, and another along the railway tracks commemorates the tragedy.
