Bar Beach is an inner city suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, located 1.6 km (1.0 mi) southwest of Newcastle's central business district. The suburb is named for the beach that extends along its eastern border.The beach is home to the Cooks Hill Surf Life Saving Club.

The St John's Anglican Church, formally the Church of St John the Evangelist, also called St John's Cooks Hill, is an Anglican church in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. It is the oldest remaining church building in Newcastle, completed in 1860. The building, the design of which is attributed to colonial architect Edmund Blacket, in the Old Colonial Grecian Revival style, is located close to the city centre at 1D Parry Street, Cooks Hill. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

The Shepherds Hill military installations is a New South Wales state heritage-listed site, consisting of a former military gun battery emplacement, observation post and gunner's cottage at The Terrace in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. It was built from 1890 to 1940. It is also known as Shepherds Hill Defence Group Military Installations, Observation Post and Gun Placement and Shepherds Hill Battery. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 July 2010.

Newcastle East Public School is a public school located in the New South Wales town of Newcastle, Australia. It is the oldest continuously running school in Australia, established in 1816 by a convict on conditional pardon, Henry Wrensford. The current site of school, located in the suburb of Newcastle on the corner of Tyrrell and Brown Streets, dates back to 1878. The school site overlooks the Newcastle CBD, only two blocks west of the Christ Church Cathedral that housed the original school in its earliest years. This location provides students and teachers with ready access to the many services of the surrounding city such as museums and galleries, theatres, beaches and sporting fields, all of which are located within walking distance of the school. The school is surrounded by places of historical significance, such as the Lead Light Tower, the Obelisk, Christ Church Cathedral and many terrace houses. The Tyrrell Street school is now a site of historical significance in Australian education. It is of itself a building of heritage value that has been restored to its former glory, having housed education in many different guises. The Tyrrell Street school embodies a synthesis of the history of three of the most historically important schools in Newcastle; Newcastle East Public School, Newcastle Public School, Newcastle High School and their offshoots. in 2016, 200 years of history was celebrated by past students of Newcastle High School on the front lawn of Newcastle East Public School, notably with ex-Prime Minister Julia Gillard in attendance. The teachers, parents and children of Newcastle East Public School hold a colonial fair every two years to celebrate the history of the school and school site.

Newcastle Reservoirs are heritage-listed former and disused reservoirs, now used for public tours, at 51 Brown Street, The Hill, City of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. They were designed by Cecil West Darley and the NSW Public Works Department and built from 1880 to 1918 by the Public Works Department. It is also known as Newcastle Reservoirs Site, Brown Street Reservoirs, Newcastle Reservoir No.1, Newcastle Pumping Station and Reservoir No.2 Valve House. The property is owned by the Hunter Water Corporation, an agency of the Government of New South Wales. The reservoirs were added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 27 April 2018.

University House is a heritage-listed building in Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia. Located on the corner of King Street and Auckland Street, it was designed by architect Emil Sodersten in association with local architectural practice Pitt and Merewether. An example of Art Deco style, the design was inspired by the streamlined functionalism of contemporary architecture in Europe.The building was constructed between 1937 and 1939 for the Newcastle Electricity Supply Council Administration and was originally known as N.E.S.C.A House. The interior, designed by Guy Allbut, originally comprised a demonstration theatre, showroom, offices and staff accommodation. In 1959, when Shortland County Council became responsible for electricity supply in the Hunter Region, they constructed a three-storey extension at the back of the building. A tower was added in 1967 and remodelling was carried out in 1969 and 1970. After the council vacated the building in 1987, a radio station and an architectural practice moved in. The building only sustained cosmetic damage during the 1989 Newcastle earthquake. In 1995, the University of Newcastle established a library there. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

The Newcastle City Hall is a heritage-listed building located in the regional New South Wales city of Newcastle in the Hunter region in Australia. The building served as the city hall for the Council of the City of Newcastle between 1929 and 1977. The building, located at 289 King Street, was designed by noted theatre architect Henry Eli White and the foundation stone was laid by the Governor of New South Wales, Sir Dudley de Chair, on 20 April 1928. The three-storey building structure is based on a steel frame that supports concrete floors and stone cladding. Local material were used as much as possible, including steel provided at a discount by local steel-maker, BHP. Architectural features include a clock tower, porte cochere, balustrades and stairs, all built with Sydney sandstone. The clock tower is an imposing landmark and distinctive feature of the city sky line, indicating the Civic Centre of Newcastle. The tower is a reinforced concrete and steel framed structure clad in Sydney yellowblock sandstone ashlar with rusticated quoins. Interior spaces include a ballroom, concert hall and additional function rooms.The administrative offices of the city hall were relocated to the new Civic Administration Centre in 1977, though the council chambers remain. The clock tower suffered some damage as a result of the 1989 Newcastle earthquake, however this was subsequently repaired.Together with the Newcastle Civic Theatre, each site is, individually, of state heritage significance, and they are listed jointly on the New South Wales State Heritage Register as the Newcastle City Hall and Civic Theatre Precinct.

Anastasia's Pool, was a sea bath in Broome in Western Australia. It was destroyed in early 2014. The pool was built sometime between 1922 and 1929 by Patrick Percy for his wife Anastasia after whom the pool is named.The pool was constructed by the addition of a hand-placed concrete bottom to a small, intertidal, natural, rock pool found on Gantheaume Point in the locality of Minyirr, approximately 10 km south west of Broome. It is said that this work was undertaken by Patrick Percy so that his wife could exercise to help her arthritis.The remains of Anastasia's Pool are still a significant tourist attraction, despite it never having been on the formal heritage register.
